Do you live somewhere "desirable?"

Just musing as I daydream on rightmove. I live in a HA property so basically had to go where they placed me. It's not a desirable place but is sometimes described as "convenient" for the nearby cities. I guess most of the people that live in my town either do so because they can't afford to move elsewhere or have ties to the location, I don't think many outsiders would choose it if they had other options.

Do you live somewhere referred to as "desirable" and do you like it?

Yes. But on a cliff! 😀

Yes. But on a cliff! 😀

Sounds lovely! Are you at risk of erosion though?

Our village is always described as desirable by estate agents, but it's all comparative isn't it? It's desirable if you need to live in this area.

RockyRogue1001 · 27/02/2024 16:58

Yes.

International tourist destination.

It's lovely but gets very busy.
And there are rough areas which most people wouldn't expect.
It's also huuuuuugely expensive.
House prices are insane.

London, some would say desirable others would say deplorable 🤷🏻‍♀️

London is definitely a marmite place! I love it personally but couldn't afford to live there.

I live in a very beautiful tourist destination. It’s lovely to live here, but there are no amenities so wouldn’t suit everyone.

Nohousemove · 27/02/2024 17:04

Yes. During the post covid exodus from London there was at least a weekly post on MN asking where should we move too. The place I live was always mentioned within 3 posts. The house prices have sky rocketed and lots of local people have been priced out of the area.

We had been considering upsized but due to post covid boom we would have to move out of the catchment area.

LauderSyme · 27/02/2024 17:06

I think my little seaside town is lovely but I just googled whether or not it is desirable and apparently - not!

mondaytosunday · 27/02/2024 17:06

Yes, in London, in a neighbourhood very popular with young families due to three 'Good' and 'Excellent' primaries within walking distance, three parks, and proximity to train and tube. Lots of shops and restaurants and a very special two weeks in June!
Prices reflect its popularity.

alloutofcareunits · 27/02/2024 17:06

The nearby towns aren't at all desirable but the part I live in is classed as desirable, good mixture of property styles and prices with plenty of green space as well as a few pubs and cafes

mondaytosunday · 27/02/2024 17:07

Oh missed your question- yes we do, though I'd like to live further in.

Wimbledon? I thought prices had dropped there?

Mumsanetta · 27/02/2024 17:11

Yes, I live in a city that is consistently in the top 5 places to live in the country. It’s the perfect mix of small, historic city and countryside and unusually diverse for the county - I think this is because monied migrants Google where to live in the UK and end up here! Plus side is it’s a great place to live, downside is it’s just as expensive as London and house prices continue to rise.

FatOaf · 27/02/2024 17:12

The town I live in is definitely desirable, and I'm on the edge of the town centre so I have very easy access to amenities without having to drive/park. But my house needs a lot of work that I don't have time to do or money to pay someone else to do.

I loathe suburbs with an absolute passion (having grown up in one), so my location would be perfect if only people would stop parking their cars across my drive.

Octavia64 · 27/02/2024 17:14

No.

Deliberately chose an "undesirable" area but it suits me.

Kids are grown up so I don't need schools anymore and it has a great chippie

dinkydonky · 27/02/2024 17:20

Yes - large village with decent amenities in an area of outstanding natural beauty with good transport links to a small nearby city. There’s a specific local business that means there’s a lot of very interesting people in the local pub. I absolutely love it and I’m so thankful I get to live here - I wouldn’t have thought somewhere so perfect for me and my partner existed.

Deebee90 · 27/02/2024 17:21

I do. Often named as one of the top 10 places to live in the uk. But I hate it.

GasPanic · 27/02/2024 17:24

Yes, in the respect that there are plenty of people without houses who would probably be more than happy to live here if they could afford to.

No in the respect I don't get letters through my door from randoms asking me to sell.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 27/02/2024 17:25

I live in an expensive city but in a cheap flat. Its on the main road above shops and with no outside space. We couldn't afford a whole house here. I wouldn't call it desirable, just close to London so expensive.

MinnieMountain · 27/02/2024 17:26

It’s very unpopular 😁 But it’s not that bad really.

Westfacing · 27/02/2024 17:27

I do and love it!

Inner London next to The Thames - everything on my doorstep and I walk almost everywhere. A small flat with a titchy garden, but you can't have everything Smile

AlltheFs · 27/02/2024 17:27

Yes, I live in a very desirable county (Rutland) in one of its most sought after villages. It’s pricey but beautiful and amazing and we count ourselves lucky every day.

All the schools are great, low crime, beautiful properties, peaceful etc

It’s rural so not everyone’s cup of tea but we left a larger house in a less desirable postcode to be here. No regrets.

Why do you hate it?

socks1107 · 27/02/2024 17:37

Yes desirable for the area it is in. Commutable to London in thirty minutes, in a rural setting but with major motorways not too far away and a large uk shopping centre.
I love its calm and quietness but can get into London easily for work and socialising
