Your favourite way to eat pasta

Pastamasta · 26/02/2024 19:50

If I'm out I love a well made lasagne. At home, for a quick and easy dinner, I love making a sauce with Boursin cheese and having it with penne, mixed with chicken and doused in doused in lemon. Anything creamy and garlicky is a winner.

And sometimes you just can't beat a good plate of (very cheesy) macaroni cheese with garlic bread. I'm not sure if that last one is a British thing or a Scottish concoction. Up here macaroni cheese always comes with garlic bread.

What's your favourite way to have pasta? Answers in more detail than "by the tonne weight" please.

With the exception of marmite, ketchup and chicken nuggets, I approve of all the suggestions on this thread 😜 although am mildly curious so may try them!

I made spag bol today.

But veg ragu with fusilli and salmon or chicken breast is another fave.
Tuna and pasta (hot or cold)
Amatriciana
Arrabbiata
Olive oil, chilli, garlic and spaghetti / linguini
Meatballs and spaghetti
Mac n cheese
Ravioli

I'm allergic to shellfish but if I wasn't this list would be wonderful.

With melted Philadelphia , smoked salmon and peas. Grated parmesan over the top. My favourite unbeatable quick dinner.

That's my quick dinner too.

But my favourite way to eat pasta has to be in Italy !

Prefer tomato based sauce and like lots of garlic, herbs and melted cheese on top. Lasagne, bolognaise, arrabiatta etc. I like smaller pasta shapes, spaghetti is an absolute pain and I end up with sauce all over my face.

Pasta cooked with mushrooms, onions and sweetcorn, then after draining the water off, add a mountain of grated extra mature cheddar, it's the best 😋

Sweetcorn?! 😱

I need some new pasta ideas 👀

Following! I love a butternut one done in the instant pot. And a sausage one with creamy tomato sauce.

Also partial to a dirty pasta n sauce cheese & broccoli 🤫

what is dirty pasta? Is it as yummy as a dirty martini? Thanks!

Notthatcatagain · 26/02/2024 23:50

Carbonara but replace the bacon with smoked salmon and Mary Berry 15 minute pasta

Santasjingleballs · 27/02/2024 00:34

Spinach, olive oil, pesto, pine nuts with Parmesan cheese

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/02/2024 00:43

I love a cold pasta salad at a BBQ that I personally make with fried mushroom, courgette and pepper tossed with grated cheese and mayo. My student classic and still guilty pleasure is the hot version of that, so you add the mayo and cheese to freshly fried veg and just cooked pasta. Then loads of black pepper. Delicious but a very occasional treat now!

Beach2lion · 27/02/2024 00:46

M&S crab linguine is yum

I think it’s the one you make in a mug?

Creamy Cajun chicken pasta is my absolute favourite. If I'm sodding the calories I make the sauce with double cream, Parmesan and Cajun spice. Otherwise I replace the cream with light Philadelphia. Pan fry the chicken with peppers and onions and more Cajun spice and then mix in the sauce. It's my absolute favourite.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/02/2024 07:06

@Judystilldreamsofhorses Your spring lasagne sounds delicious.

An easy one:
Cook pasta
Toast pine nuts
Tub of fresh pesto
Packet of chopped baby spinach
Mix
Cheese
Slurp

TheLadyIsAVamp · 27/02/2024 07:30

We eat too much pasta because we love it. Some of our favourites are Chilli mac, million dollar spaghetti, nando's pasta, taco spaghetti, chicken caesar pasta salad, creamy lemon chicken pasta, spinach and ricotta caneloni, creamy sausage gochujang pasta, Italian pasta salad with loads of salami, BLT pasta salad, French onion mac and cheese, chicken kyiv pasta.

spagbolrules · 27/02/2024 07:34

My user name is inspired by my love of pasta, spaghetti bolognese being my all time favourite. I also love carbonara made with a normal Schwartz packet mix and lots of crispy bacon.

I also make linguine with spicy chicken and tender stem broccoli in a mature cheddar cheese sauce. I came up with the recipe when there was very little in the cupboards and it was so tasty I've made it again quite a few times!

🤤 I'm going to do this tomorrow!

Let me know if you like it. It’s the only meal we have on a weekly basis, i save it for when I’m in a cba mood

PudgeControlsTheWeather · 27/02/2024 16:12

My favourite way to eat pasta is in big portions. Everything beyond that is negotiable.

Dear god! Sending help your way now you poor thing

Nigella has it as a recipe in one of her books, and I'm happy to confirm it's delicious.

ThreeRingCircus · 27/02/2024 16:22

Honestly OP, marmite spaghetti is way nicer than it sounds. Try the Nigella recipe. It's one of our go to meals when we have to raid the cupboards for dinner.

I have said this before on here but I love cajun halloumi rigatoni. Boil rigatoni, while that's cooking fry cubes of halloumi with onions, peppers and cajun seasoning. Add some tomato purée, cream cheese and a ladleful of the pasta water to make a sauce. Toss through the pasta and add chopped basil and a squeeze of lemon. It is creamy, cheesy, spicy deliciousness.

For shop bought I love the Sainsbury's taste the difference prawn and chilli ravioli cooked then stirred through hot, melted butter in which I've fried some chilli flakes and a tonne of garlic.

Tomato ketchup???!
Chopped up fishfingers???!
Boiled mushrooms with sweetcorn???!

There are some erm….interesting…ideas on here!

A really good veggie lasagne - I use puy lentils as the ‘meat’ and lots of red wine

I’ve recently discovered Mutti brand tomatoes and am having fun with a whole new world of tomato based sauces, which I previously wouldn’t eat:
penne a la vodka is a recent discovery, as is a veggie puttanesca

Would you mind sharing your veggie lasagne recipe @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie? It’s one thing I can’t seem to “veggie-ise” very well, but it used to be a favourite! I’ve tried before with green lentils but it wasn’t amazing. Any tips gratefully received!

Anyone after a creamy salmon recipe should try this one, it’s delicious https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/pasta-salmon-peas

Fried gnocchi with mushrooms and leeks. All fried in butter and then add a spoonful of miso. When that’s melted, serve with lots of Parmesan and black pepper.

Also love fried gnocchi with chorizo, tomatoes and marscapone stirred through just before serving.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/02/2024 18:02

@AtLeastThreeDrinks
If not feeling lazy, I roast peppers, chunks of red onion and whole or halved mushrooms.
Meanwhile, make a sauce of chopped onions, finely diced carrots and red pepper, courgette sometimes, garlic, thyme, oregano - fry. Add balsamic vinegar and a glass of red wine. Add stock, Mutti tinned tomatoes and Puy lentils. Cook the sauce for ages in the oven, checking if you need to add more water.
Mix the roasted vege in and assembly lasagne as usual with white sauce and parmesan type cheese on top.

If feeling more lazy, I don't roast the vege. Instead I fry up diced onion, red pepper, carrots, courgette, mushrooms. Add the garlic, herbs etc as above but not the guy lentils. Cook it up slowly in the oven then add Merchant Gourmet cooked lentils. Assemble as usual.

I think the long slow cooking, the good tomatoes and lots of wine are key. I also think Puy lentils are nicer than green, as they somehow taste richer.

stormonasummerseve · 27/02/2024 18:09

Happy to admit I make the very best arabiatta in the world. It's my go to. Can't beat it.
