Your favourite way to eat pasta

If I'm out I love a well made lasagne. At home, for a quick and easy dinner, I love making a sauce with Boursin cheese and having it with penne, mixed with chicken and doused in doused in lemon. Anything creamy and garlicky is a winner.

And sometimes you just can't beat a good plate of (very cheesy) macaroni cheese with garlic bread. I'm not sure if that last one is a British thing or a Scottish concoction. Up here macaroni cheese always comes with garlic bread.

What's your favourite way to have pasta? Answers in more detail than "by the tonne weight" please.

With Meatballs in a spicy tomato & red pepper sauce. 😋

I’m not a big fan of cream sauces, but I do enjoy a nice lasagne.

With homemade pesto sometimes with a dollop of mascapone to make a creamy pesto, mine and my children's favorite 😍

There is a science behind which shape of pasta to have with which sauce, depending on ingredients and textures. I can’t tell you what that science is, but I can tell you I’ve had this book in my Amazon basket for at least a year.

I’m so trying the Boursin recipe!

I wish I had not clicked onto this thread.

Today is a fasting day for me. I'm salivating at the thought... Even the thought of marmite and pasta.

MoonWoman69 · 26/02/2024 21:25

Cheese and marmite definitely! Got to be linguine though!

Caswallonthefox · 26/02/2024 21:26

With either cut up chicken nuggets or fish fingers, frozen mixed veg all mixed together with mayonnaise.
Penne pasta should be banned because its a bitch to drain.
If I had the mental fortitude to spend a while in the kitchen, my meals would be more interesting.
As it is, my meals take 15 minutes and that's my limit.

Bearpawk · 26/02/2024 21:28

My fave recipe atm is orzo with cannellini beans, lemon juice, parsley and parmaesan. A bit like a risotto.
I also batch cook brisket red wine ragu every now and then and keep portions in the freezer for a quick supper: just boil some bucatini or linguine

This kind of science greatly appeals to me. I'm willing to run some experiments in my kitchen. I'll stop short of marmite or cut up fish fingers however.

Actually, marmite pasta IS really good, honestly. Even Nigella says so 😁

TiredCatLady · 26/02/2024 21:33

A really good slow cooked bolognaise
Proper carbonara
Homemade wild garlic pesto
Puttanesca (with tuna)

Or one of my “pasta surprise” specials. I have two go-tos: 1. Fresh tomatoes, garlic, onions, broccoli/spinach and pancetta with lots of good olive oil, black pepper and some Parmesan. 2. Garlic, shallot, pancetta or chicken if I have either in, spinach, Creme fraiche and lemon, black pepper, Parmesan.

Anything creamy and/or with seafood. Or garlic, chilli, olive oil and butter. Sometimes with Parmesan on top.

The Rachel Roddy A-Z of Pasta book mentioned above is fantastic.

MissMarplesNiece · 26/02/2024 21:42

Courgette, garlic & mushrooms fried in olive oil then mixed with cooked broccoli & green beans. All mixed with farfalle, and sprinkled with grated cheese. The farfalle take on a silky texture that contrasts with the slightly al dente broccoli & beans.

EwwSprouts · 26/02/2024 21:42

If on holiday spaghetti vongole.

At home spaghetti with onion, diced courgette, garlic Philadelphia (or Boursin), splosh of white wine, smoked salmon (a little goes a long way).

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 26/02/2024 21:47

This thread is making me so hungry.

Apart from my mum's bolognaise sauce from the 1970s m and s freezer book...

Cook some linguine
Ik a separate pan...
Garlic fried in butter
Add a glass of white wine
Zest and juice of 2 lemons
A handful of capers.

Let it all reduce for a while.

Add the linguine.
Lots of black pepper, Parmesan and a small amount of fresh basil on top.

I can't stop eating it

We make an orzo "salad" with a spinach pesto, kalamata olives and feta. We serve it warm but can be eaten cold. Guests ALWAYS want the recipe. Yum! Now I have to go make it.

Cut up chicken nuggets? 😱

I knew you'd do that.
I have used chicken breast, but nuggets taste better.
When your mental health is wobbly, any food us better than nothing. At my worst I was just eating 15 chicken nuggets and nothing else.

themusingsofaninsomniac · 26/02/2024 21:50

I need some new pasta ideas 👀

Following! I love a butternut one done in the instant pot. And a sausage one with creamy tomato sauce.

Also partial to a dirty pasta n sauce cheese & broccoli 🤫
