Thanks. God I really hope it happens. The run up will be interesting (or maybe unbearable!) on MN.

They are saying insiders in No10.

Current odds on a Spring election are 4/1. Might be worth a bet?

I wouldn't bet on it, but there's no doubt that there's a crisis. And it's being ignored in the headlines. Which is infuriating, understandably.

the80sweregreat · 04/03/2024 13:59

Priti Patel MP was on lbc this morning telling Nick Ferrari how good it was when she was the Home Secretary and how it's ' not good enough ' now. Who has been in charge ? Oh wait ..
A few callers told her how it was with the police ' service ' ( non existent ) but I think she had gone by then.
She is ( to be a fair) a good speaker , but unfortunately not a lot of it was that true.

"Otherwise we risk pushing ourselves into an ideological cul-de-sac. The standard deviation model is true in politics. Most people are in the middle. We can work with the bell curve or become the bell-ends..."

I wonder, given how low Sunaks personal ratings are, whether he will survive a general election no matter which seat he's in?

Unbelievably the British Home Office has denied visas to the 47 young afghan musicians due to fly tomorrow from Portugal for their 4 city Breaking the Silence tour to raise awareness of the plight of Afghan women and girls

I can believe it. They seem to want us to think the country is on a knife edge of street rioting which has given them carte blanche for this and more. Women have never been on Tory agendas, let alone brown ones. Plus who would invite such strong and resilient brown ones to warn about authoritarian control at a time when that's exactly what is NOT HAPPENING HERE IN CHRISTIAN TOLERANT UK.

Knew this would happen. It's disgraceful dog whistling nonsense.

Genuinely don't understand the Home Office rationale for this decision.

You say unbelievably…

Actually I don’t think this is the first time this has happened. I’m sure they did this to another group last year.

There was a story I saw at the weekend where a Palestinian in the U.K. can’t get his wife a visa to come here from Gaza because although she is eligible they want her fingerprints. Because it’s dead easy to get the right paperwork sorted in Gaza right now.

‘I wish I had never come to the UK’: Palestinian academic despairs of getting visas for family stuck in Gaza | Israel-Gaza war | The Guardian

A lecturer doing his PhD on a British Council scholarship in York is frightened for his wife and two small children who are under Israeli bombardment

Genuinely don't understand the Home Office rationale for this decision.

No visas to be given under any circumstances just about covers the reason.

It’s the same reason Afghans come here in small boats even if they should have been eligible because the reason their lives are in danger is because they were working for the British.

LlynTegid · 04/03/2024 17:01

I don't expect a spring election though would like one. The sooner we can vote this government our of office the better.

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2024 17:11

The government has suffered its first defeat in the House of Lords on its bill to rescue the Rwanda scheme.

Excellent. The Lords is making a very good case for its continued existence.

Galloway now threatening to unseat Angela Rayner . Unfortunately he is doing the 'sectarian vote' lobby favours in this, since he is targeting seats with hefty Muslim electorates..

The point he has missed is his own charisma. He's a loathsome man but he is very charismatic. He can't stand in Rayner's seat and I can't see someone else unseating her.

He has also missed the point that there was no proper Labour candidate in Rochdale.

True. But he did say there's going to be a tsunami now against Starmer or something. Some kind of ego he has.

RafaistheKingofClay · 04/03/2024 17:46

He got less than 40%the vote in an election where there was no Labour candidate and 60% of the people didn’t bother voting. I think unseating rayner might be a long shot given he has his seat because 16% of the electorate in Rochdale voted for him.

Let's pray 25 is an over-estimate.

Who would be left in those 25.
The only disappointment with that, is that the leadership election will be much less entertaining as a result.
