There seems to be an issue with Conservatives memories - it's almost as if they think they've been in opposition for the last 14 years.

Notonthestairs · 29/02/2024 19:42

"The result? "Poor-quality refusals" and rising appeals

The ICIBI report also accused the Home Office of driving up costs with a "pointless" policy of delaying asylum claims by 6 months, while it considers deporting people when there's nowhere to send them"

There goes that fiscal responsibility again.
Interesting thread from Lizzie Dearden.

This absolutely they all need carting of to memory clinic, the collective amnesia is at epidemic levels.
this thread has been a lovely light relief in between the horrors of the antics/news today, I’m glad we have some taller members among us.

Just watched jess Phillips read the list, My god. Its heartbreaking.

I'm only 5ft 3 1/2 and have a dodgy shoulder. I'm can be rather cantankerous though.

Yes it is.

And I'm not sure if anyone read the Everard family statement...it was beyond moving and my heart honestly goes out to them

DuncinToffee · 29/02/2024 20:24

Are the Tories running scared of Question TIme?

On Question Time tonight, Fiona will be joined by Sayeeda Warsi, David Lammy, Caroline Lucas and Tim Stanley

(Stanley is an author and columnist for the Telegraph)

Roussette · 29/02/2024 20:26

I'm tall but pissed off I've shrunk at least an inch now I'm old.
I am lethal whacking anyone round the chops with a week old kipper though 🐠

newnamethanks · 29/02/2024 20:50

Are we running short of Tory MPs allowed to speak in public? Surely not, they've been doing so well recently 30p, Truss, Suellen, Rishi himself. Anyone might think they were collectively too ashamed to show their faces. As if.

Just skimming through the big dump of ICIBI's reports that the Home Office tried to burry by publishing today.

Just to give you an idea of the level we're talking...

The Home Office doesn't know whether all staff working in hotels with unaccompanied children are DBS checked.

In fact, this was revealed back in 2022. When the Ispector first visited hotels for unaccompanied refugee kids. And in the TWO YEARS since the Home Office has not seen fit to conduct the relevant checks.

Notonthestairs · 29/02/2024 20:52

I think k they probably just don't enjoy being laughed at.
Or to have to repeat the W word.

newnamethanks · 29/02/2024 20:58

BBC news at 6 tonight item on rough sleepers, 80 approx asylum seekers sleeping in the portals of Manchester Town Hall having been booted out of the safe hotel accommodation that they were initially housed in.

Meanwhile, Andrew Bridgen's tin foil hat tightens. Penny Mordaunt slaps him down nicely.

Oh my god
Penny Mordaunt looks reasonable Shock
Starmers conspiracy jibe has clearly rattled them and she's positioning as the anti conspiracy person.

It's a good change from "Stand up!...."

Just catching up on yesterday's PMQs, Sunak was dreadful. Surely he can be investigated for lying to parliament because he sure as he'll didn't remove 30p flee immediately as he said.

He doesn't seem to understand that he takes instructions from the house and feeds that through to representatives of Britain. Is he really so thick and self absorbed that he thinks the house works for him?

I would join the barricades with you all, but having been called a conspiracy theorist, I might just flounce instead.

In all seriousness, "The government is pulling a vote on banning MPs accused of violent and sexual offences from parliament"
On the day Jess Phillips reads the list of women killed by men.

Women are clearly high on this government's agenda.Hmm

I'm finding the phrase "political DARVO" helpful for those kind of comments.
It really is pretty transparent. On a thread the other day someone tried a "But Boris Johnson....". Didn't work. I miss JGW

Fucks sake.

so even though they’ve managed to ‘lose’ hundreds of unaccompanied children they’ve managed to lower the bar even further and not adequately safeguard the ones they do have responsibility for? It’s a scandal and one that will come out in the future that will paint this period in our history as shamefully as it should be viewed currently.

Fucking arseholes. These are some of the most vulnerable kids our country and they’ve just chucked them to the lions.

newnamethanks · 29/02/2024 22:01

Utter bastards, the lot of them. And when the inevitable inquiry is held in a couple of years it will be Somebody Else's Fault.

tobee · 01/03/2024 02:20

I'm here too @placemats.

I thought it was any minute now about 20 minutes ago. Just looking at the candidates list. Always find independents a bit Confused. Quite hard to work out what the stand for often. Can be a bit crackpot. Although I'm sure this lot are lovely. (🤔)

tobee · 01/03/2024 02:21

Can't face watching live so have some cricket highlights on while awaiting the notification dropdown on my phone. 🫤

placemats · 01/03/2024 02:23

Trust me Indepents never win in a general election, the scenes are bizarre. He never got himself around the community. So funny to say that.
