My stupid mistake and I'm gutted...has anyone else done something similar?

Last October I booked theatre tickets for me and DH to see Hamilton and I was so exited.

Unfortunately shortly after that I received a cancer diagnosis, so normal life went put the window ...but I had that to look forward to.

Last night the date finally came round, yeahhh....and both me and DH donned our finery, had a bite to eat, drink in the bar and made our way to our seats.....only to find other people on them! After a bit of confusion we realised we were a week late! The theatre staff were so kind but as it was the last night it was sold out.
So we left totally gutted and down £200.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done something so incredibly stupid.....it may make me feel just a tad better!

I have a friend who turned up for a concert a week late and worked with someone who turned up for a flight a day early 🤷‍♀️

Fraaahnces · 25/02/2024 12:59

I work in a theatre and it happens every…single…night. You’re not alone.

NatMoz · 25/02/2024 13:00

I once went to the wrong theatre! There are 2 in Manchester and me, 7 months pregnant had to dart from one to the other and got in our seats with literally a minute to spare!

Fizzadora · 25/02/2024 13:03

Yeah opticians one day late. It was on the calendar and I'd checked it on the right day but still somehow thought it was the next day.
They squeezed me in.

yellomar · 25/02/2024 13:04

yep. Booked to see one of our favourite artists and realised on the train that the tickets were for the night before! So gutted. We were also £200 lighter and the gig was sold out so we couldn't get tickets for the other days

BlackBean2023 · 25/02/2024 13:05

My daughters 7th birthday party! Booked for the Saturday but sent all the invitations out for Sunday. Got a call from soft play on the Saturday to ask where everyone was Blush

An expensive mistake that DD likes to remind me of regularly 9 years on...

TigerRag · 25/02/2024 13:05

Have turned up to the wrong hotel twice. (same chain had hotels on the same street / next street over)

Echobelly · 25/02/2024 13:06

We went to the airport to fly home from Lanzarote on 30th December a few years ago to find DH had booked the return flight for 30th January. No wonder it was the only affordable set of flights he found at short notice!

Very luckily there were 4 seats two hours later on a flight to Birmingham and fortunately DH was working a contract at the time so we could afford to book those tickets- we're in London but there were no London seats available for another week. We then had to take a taxi from Birmingham to Stansted to pick up our car and amazingly we only got home about 6 hours late!

It could have actually been worse as the morning after we got home, the car wouldn't start - can you image if it had done that about 9 hours earlier when we arrived at Stansted at about 1am?! 😱

Devonchills · 25/02/2024 13:06

Not quite the same, but I once went to the wrong funeral!
It was an old work colleague and I'd got the time wrong, I was early by an hour, and ended up having to sit through the funeral of a complete stranger.

A friend of mine arrived at the O2 for a concert at Wembley

Meadowfinch · 25/02/2024 13:06

We turned up for a flight home from holiday, a day late.

I flew for work all year, so dp had taken over, organised the trip, and got muddled with time zones/dates. We went to the airport and basically I used my BA Gold card and asked the BA staff for help. They were lovely. After a double-take at our tickets, and a bit of teasing, the check-in lady swapped our tickets and didn't charge us.

This was in the days when BA had check-in ladies and proper customer service. I bet they'd charge us full whack now. It would have been horrifyingly expensive.

I turned up at the opticians a week early last week (to be fair I've had a lot on with a tumour diagnosis too!) and once went to a job interview a week early and eventually got it! Sorry about that though, I hope you made a nice evening of it anyway xx

Schoolrunmumbun · 25/02/2024 13:08

I turned up for a domestic flight in Thailand out of Bangkok at the wrong Bangkok airport, there were two at the time, I think there just 1 big one now. Got a very expensive taxi and made it to the flight.

Later I asked my mum to pick me up from Heathrow coming back from long haul. I got confused cos of date/ time difference and my poor mum turned up a day early for me, at 6am. And had to come back again for me the next day.

My best friend went camping last August. Drove 4 hours, kids and all the camping gear in the car. Got there and they had booked for August 2024, not 2023. It was full so there was no chance they good stay there. Had to scrabble around and find somewhere else to go.

Schoolrunmumbun · 25/02/2024 13:09

Turned up for channel tunnel home from France and realised had booked for the day before. Was only €13 to change tickets thank goodness.

CheerfulBardo · 25/02/2024 13:09

I think it happens a lot, OP — the luckier ones are those who show up a week early, rather than late, so they can return to actually make the event.

I hope your treatment is going ok.

I'm probably being thick but this is confusing me??

I have corrected the typo! It was December 30th we got to airport

Cvoight · 25/02/2024 13:12

Ahh no @Punsandroses that sucks!

I have a similar story. For our first wedding anniversary, we booked tickets to see our favourite band play in the Netherlands. Booked hotel etc to make a weekend of it.

On day of gig, got to venue only to find it had been cancelled due to ill health of a band member. But worse than that, on flight home the next day, they couldn’t find any record of our booking. I’d booked the room dates for flight home and we’d missed our plane by 24 hours 😁

sawnotseen · 25/02/2024 13:12

Yes I went to Gatwick for a flight that was leaving from Heathrow. Not my fault my friend had booked the tickets. We did make the flight though as my ex husband was driving us and she realised whilst we were still in the car so had to drive around the M25!

neverfair · 25/02/2024 13:13

That's me, probably worse... worst one got to be turning up the wrong school for DD's sport event - I found out from a school staff.... turning up an hour early for birthday party at someone's house, an hour late for work due to time change, stressed and rushed to orthodontist appointment a day before etc. I have to put everything in calendar reminder even weekly events like takingbthe bins out 😣

Mischance · 25/02/2024 13:14

You are not alone.

I was on our doorstep ready to set off to a university interview and checked in my pocket for the letter - which I read and saw that the interview had been the day before!!

I went for a hearing appointment last Tuesday for some of the settings to be altered on my aids. Whilst driving in I was struggling to hear the car radio and thought that was a bit weird. When I got to the appointment I realised I had not put my aids in that morning - I have worn aids all day every day for a decade and always put them in. What an idiot!

BobnLen · 25/02/2024 13:15

DH, a keen runner got very early to drive about 60 miles to a marathon, got there and realised it was on the day before.

DistingusedSocialCommentator · 25/02/2024 13:15

OP - though its never happend to us yet, we've come close

It can happen to anyone and other posts prove this

When one of our children was moving - it was a slightly windy day - I'm very careful but for some stupid reason but the some meter long varse outside by the corner of the house as it was fragile and IMO out of the way ie away from front door - within 2 minutes gust of wind blew it over and smahed it - it was 250 quid - I felt awful - son did not take the money and we could not find one like it
