Are you slim?
I'd like to become like that and I'm hoping it'll have a nice side effect of weight loss.

Yes. Even when I eat I'm usually standing at the kitchen worktop.

I walk before work, swim during the day and then im on the go all evening.

Not super slim, but a size 10.

Tisfortired · 23/02/2024 17:57

I’m certainly not, but my mums husband is and he’s like a rake 😂 I’m not sure if it’s related or not. But the man can NOT sit still. When they’re watching a tv programme my mum can sense him itching to get up and do something. Everytime I go round the house is immaculate and my mum is in her recliner with a her feet up and a brew in her hand! He’s great when they babysit my DC, they keep each other busy!

Userengage · 23/02/2024 17:57

I am and have always been but can you “become” that person if you haven’t always been?

AstralSpace · 23/02/2024 18:00

@Userengage I used to be like that (before kids) and I think I could be again except I'm sitting around on my phone too much.
I still have quite a few days like that but today, I have been particularly lazy and need to change my slovenly ways.

Ah ok Stand up when on your phone and step! That’s what I do.

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/02/2024 18:46

I am one of those people. But I am not thin, just annoying.

Robin198 · 23/02/2024 19:57

I am. Literally sat down for the first time today at 7pm ish. I'm on my feet for work, have a dog, a 4 year old and run in my spare time so I have no idea why I even bought a sofa.

BosworthBosworth · 23/02/2024 20:01

I never sit down, very rarely stop moving and I'm a size 22 . (I just love cake).

Bohemond23 · 23/02/2024 20:03

I call it perpetual motion. Other than to work I rarely sit down during the day. It helps that I am a neat freak and we have two sets of stairs. Objectively I am slim at 52.

BingoMarieHeeler · 23/02/2024 20:04

I never sit down and I’m a size 18.

Bloomingdaffs · 23/02/2024 20:04

Definitely not. My DH is though. It makes me tired just watching him.

user1471453601 · 23/02/2024 20:07

My adult daughter has been on the go from 8:00 this morning until about 5:00 this afternoon.

She's overweight. She loves her food and especially carbs.

She's content as she is, that's my measure of success

IpanemaCaipirinha · 23/02/2024 20:07

I like to keep moving and stand up to use mumsnet or check news. I also walk everyday, chase ddog round garden and swim once a week, do workouts at home. Slim at 49.

IggOrEgg · 23/02/2024 20:12

Kind of. I’m forced into it, with a farm, a toddler, several dogs and general chaos always 😆 I’m a size 12 at 5’8 so not slim slim but not ‘fat’ I wouldn’t say.
My mum is a true never-sits-down type and she is rake thin and always has been. She barely eats either tho, so!

DaisyCat33 · 23/02/2024 20:15

No I'm not. I have an underactive thyroid and spend basically all my time sat down 🤣 but I'm only a size 12. I'm not really sure being on your feet all the time has much to do with size, it's more to do with how much you eat.

Boopear · 23/02/2024 20:16

I am and, no, not thin either😩 I am pretty fit though..

NoNameisGoodEnough · 23/02/2024 20:20

I love sitting down and take any opportunity.

ShowOfHands · 23/02/2024 20:23

I almost never sit down unless I'm catching up with friends/out to dinner. I feel really antsy if I'm not moving.

I'm slim but I eat healthily and work out daily.

AbeSimpsonsWhiskeySour · 23/02/2024 20:24

I never sit down but I'm a size 16

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 23/02/2024 20:26

I never stand up 😂

Bloomingdaffs · 23/02/2024 20:28

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 23/02/2024 20:26

I never stand up 😂

I try to avoid standing up whenever possible.

Ruffpuff · 23/02/2024 20:33

I’m a size 6, always been petite, and I like my downtime. I’m not an ‘always on the go’ person. In fact, I constantly feel exhausted despite getting rest and having time to sit throughout the day. However, I don’t drive so I probably walk at least 5 miles a day. I’m also a single mum and work 50-60 hrs a week. However, I get 4 days off at a time and I use a lot of it to rest. Other than that I don’t do any exercise.

At the moment I’m eating more and I seem to be putting on weight (bmi is 18). I went through a period of stress and stopped eating and lost a lot of weight. My exercise stayed the same. Activity doesn’t seem to make any difference to my weight, it always seems to depend on how much I eat.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/02/2024 20:33

I used to know a couple of these - I found them exhausting. One would meet you at the door with a duster or J Cloth in her hand, saying she hadn’t sat down all day.
She was fat!

It’s particularly irritating if people tell you they never sit down, as if it’s some sort of virtue.
They’re often people who never read a book - would see it as a ‘waste of time’ - or at least that’s been my experience.

AskingQuestionsAgain · 23/02/2024 20:33

Those of you who move a lot, what things do you do inside the house that keep you moving?

I mean activities that aren't running around after small kids.

I'd like to move more but am in a habit of sitting most of the time and can't work out what people who are on the go all the time are actually doing. Maybe if I know I can gradually turn myself into one of them!

skybluekitty · 23/02/2024 20:34

Yes and yes. I only sit down at work (part time) and for about thirty minutes in the evening! I have three kids and don't like driving so I walk everywhere, but I've always been the same and can't really settle and watch a load of box sets or whatever. I like being busy!

I am slim, yes, I always have been and I think being generally active as opposed to going to the gym three times a week and then being sedentary the rest of the time, has helped with that.
