What's your plans this Friday night?

I remember back in the day (when I was social) Friday nights used to be my favourite. The butterfly's in my belly all day at work watching the clock tick. Takeaway on my way home and start getting ready at about 7pm. Get dressed up to the 99s and meet up with my friends for a few in our local before hitting the city for the bars and nightclubs ( nightclubs! Are they even still a thing? Apparently not according to my dd) Dancing until 3am before grabbing a dirty kebab and taxi home. Get in bed, head spinning with sick bucket next to you. Ahh those were the days.

Now I'm 39 and got a childless weekend and planning a cosy night in front of the tv with candles and a microwave meal 😀

What are your plans tomorrow evening/night?

Weirdly I was just thinking about this- think One Day set me off. Back in the mid nineties we’d all go out straight from work until the pubs shut. Would invite my workmates along to meet up with my flatmates and all their friends/ colleagues so there’s be loads of us. Then home via the kebab shop to watch South Park if we got back in time- think it was on at midnight.

Tomorrow: ooh, dunno. Might go crazy and have a takeaway and watch a bit of telly

I’m going out to see my pals band play in my favourite club… I’m going to dance til I hurt and it’s going to be fantastic.

I am closer to 40 than 30 and I can’t wait to pull out my favourite dancing shoes.

This last month has been hell so a night of getting dressed up and dancing my socks off is the medicine I need

Loafbeginsat60 · 22/02/2024 19:26

Taking my daughter and some classmates to their dancing competition and getting a curry on the way home 😂

As rock n roll as it gets here

Oh God I remember those days! When people asked me where I lived I used to say "In my car!". The joys of rural life with teens...

Bloomingdaffs · 22/02/2024 19:29

I lived for Friday nights. Home from work, get dressed up to meet all my mates at the pub we all used. Then out dancing till the early hours.

Now I'm usually on the sofa under a blanket watching Gardeners World,

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 22/02/2024 19:32

I did all that in the 80s.. wasn't it great.? My daughter is 40 and has more or less stopped doing it.. she likes concerts and gatherings at friends houses.
Tomorrow day and night I'm doing nothing.. I've had an hectic week with so many appointments.. doctors/ hospital.. had my Grandson sleep over..( his Mum had an appointment).. took cat to vets for vaccinations.. I'm absolutely exhausted.
My daughter is coming to clean.. I'm getting a quote for my new wooden flooring.. but will be takeaway.. telly n reading.

Hedonism · 22/02/2024 19:33

I bloody love a Friday night. The whole weekend ahead of you.

I will probably ferry my teenager and his mates around a bit, and then sit on the sofa with a glass of wine. I know how to live.

I don't even know how I got to this point. I didn't see the transition. I was the first one to make plans and suggest nights out. The life and soul....and then it just stopped 😬

Just the thought of planning what to wear, showering and making myself look less dead makes me shudder 🤦🏻‍♀️ although it could just be the weather. I'm sure I'm more up for things in the summer 🤔

We bought a campervan and were off on our maiden voyage! Just one night as a tester, we have a heater (thank goodness). Friday night squished up with DH, what could possibly go wrong?!

SheepAndSword · 22/02/2024 19:48

Depends - I'm waiting for a delivery so if it comes tomorrow morning then I'll travel to relative's place and start clearing it/packing.

If delivery doesn't come until Saturday I'll just be snug on the sofa and watch something.

GeorgeBeckett · 22/02/2024 19:51

This Friday...Working a night shift to cover for striking junior doctors! 10 years ago I would have been a junior doctor so would still have been working a night shift!

Was laughing thinking about this the other week. When was ‘the last’ night out? There was obviously just some point where no one bothered to arrange one anymore and people were maybe secretly delighted 🙈 I used to be very aware if I was sitting in on a Friday or Saturday night.. like what a loser I am! 🤣 Now like everyone else it seems I don’t even notice that I don’t have plans

shellyleppard · 22/02/2024 19:53

Its my 55th birthday tomorrow.... celebrating with my teenage sons in Manchester for the bricktastic lego exhibition!!!! Yep I'm partying hard 🤣🤣🤣

Jowak1 · 22/02/2024 19:55

Probably a takeaway and film after ferrying the teenagers to various places! A night in front of the tv with candles, or a good book is now ( I'm 45) my idea of heaven! I couldn't imagine going clubbing now but used to do it every week when younger. Getting old lol 😂

Toblerbone · 22/02/2024 19:58

Yes I remember the days! Out clubbing in Leicester Square every night in the late 90s / early 00s. This Friday DH will be taking DS out to his activity and I'll be watching TV and listening to DD and her friends giggling upstairs.

NewYearNewJob2024 · 22/02/2024 19:58

I'm with you OP!!! Couldn't wait for a Friday night!!! And I also didn't notice the transtion...never thought I'd prefer to be at home in my pj's under a blanket than out on the town!

My Friday night usually consists of a fake away (trying to be healthy and save money) and watch Death in Paradise and catch up on Question Time if I didn't watch it the previous night! Very rock and roll! It's still my favourite night of the week though as got the whole weekend to look forward to!

TitaniasAss · 22/02/2024 20:00

I used to get really excited on the train on the way home from work. Then something quick to eat, get glammed up, meet my friends at the station and on the train back into Glasgow again. This was the days of Midas, the Cotton Club and Clatty Pats. Happy days indeed.

Tomorrow night my sister is coming round (our DCs are all adults now, almost) and it'll be a takeaway and a couple of glasses of wine. Not too much though or we'll both have heartburn. 😂 I'll be in bed by about 11 at the latest.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 22/02/2024 20:01

Not worrying about the Speaker of the House of Commons, that's for sure.

Bbq1 · 22/02/2024 23:52

The actress Vicky McClure and her husband are going around various cities doing a nightclub afternoon for the over 30s specifically but any age can go. It runs from 3pm until 7pm with a range of music and a big screen showing nostalgic ads and tv shows. People are encouraged to dress up as they would normally for a night club. I think it's a great idea and some people will love it.

Tomorrow me and dh will be watching tv. I'm currently having cancer treatment so am exhausted plus i have to avoid crowded places. I won't sleep until my ds, 18 is home from watching his gf play in her band . He's responsible and mature plus he doesn't drink but i just can't relax until he's home.

Bbq1 · 22/02/2024 23:55

Did all my clubbing and pubbing from 1991 through to about 2004. Like a meal out now occasionally and love theatre and the cinema in normal times.

edwinbear · 23/02/2024 00:02

I’ll be driving from London to Shropshire to watch 14yr old DS run in a cross country race on Saturday. The whole weekend with petrol, hotel, dinner (he doesn’t eat off the kids menu anymore) will cost me about £300. He’ll run for about 15mins, a good result will see him top 30 out of 450 kids, and I’ll spend about 3 hours stood in the freezing cold, getting rained on and covered in mud. I’ll drive for about 7 hours. Last time we did this the race was cancelled about 30 mins beforehand due to the weather. Happy days.

MrsMConstable · 23/02/2024 15:42

I'm gonna be doing my husband 😂🔥

IggOrEgg · 23/02/2024 15:45

Absolutely nothing. Husband is out so I had a bottle of wine in the fridge for later but toddler DS has just been sick so I suspect I am not in for the relaxing evening alone I had been hoping for! I’m hoping it’ll come to nothing but perhaps that’s a bit optimistic.
