I was watching a TikTok earlier where someone was talking about chat rooms in the early noughties. I'd completely forgotten about the amount of time I spent on these pre-MSN messenger & The Sims.

I'm trying to remember the name of a specific one and I can't and it's really bothering me!

Every time someone logged in they could chose a new name. I think it had a black screen and you chose your font and font colour. There was a main board that people got kicked out for 'flooding' (posting too many messages in a row). The names of everyone in the chat room were on the right hand side of the screen and you clicked on their name to message them. I think swearing was banned.

Literally hours not wasted on IRC when I was at university in the mid '90s. I loved a good chat room, I did 😁

I used yahoo chat mainly, sometimes AOL or MSN.
I used to meet up with boys I’d meet in the chat rooms, horrifying now I look back, I was 17/18 at the time, luckily I didn’t meet any 45 year old perverts and they were lads my age!

Begging my mum and dad to use the dial up 😂 I'll never forget that tone! And it would block the phone line so my Grandma couldn't ring and they'd be shouting for me to get off 😂

I'm older than you lot, but you've prompted a half-hour trip down memory lane! I WFH in the 90s, on a Compuserve system. There was practically no web security in those days, and I'd have random chats with hacker kids who popped up on my screen. One of the early ones asked me about my cookies and I thought he meant biscuits 😂

I bought a Bitcoin from somebody on a message board for £10. There were no crypto wallets then, you got the code itself. Lost mine ages ago. One BC is now worth £43k, and that's after the crash!

YES!!! I think that was the first chat board I ever used! I was 13/14 at the time. I used to essentially post troll threads - I eventually got banned! Then I forwarded a chain message to the mod that banned me because I was annoyed! This thread takes me back!

I also have fond memories of a Steps chatroom!
