Every night I read books to my son in bed then I sing until he falls asleep. We have a few songs which are quite special and often requested:

  • You are my sunshine
  • Dream a little dream by Ella Fitzgerald
  • Sunrise by Norah Jones
  • Fields of gold by Eva Cassidy
  • God only knows by the Beach Boys

What special songs you do you sing to your kids?

I would sing rock-a-bye-baby, ten green bottles and hush little baby :)

During the day we liked ‘the grand old Duke of York’ :)

When my son was in hospital and I couldn’t calm him down I started singing to him and I was so tired and ill the first song that came to my head was All Star by Smashmouth 😂so now that’s sort of our song! I will sing anything that pops to my head though, both my kids got a lot of Complicated by Avril Lavigne as babies because it starts with “chill out, what you yelling for”

You are my sunshine here too! Also A Thousand Years and Your Song.

Dd loved Elton John when she was a baby! As well as Your Song, I sang her Goodbye Yellowbrick Road and she loved it. If she wad upset for no obvious reason I used to sing that to her and she settled.

That's lovely. Your song is a gorgeous one.

Mine are grown up now but it was “you are my sunshine” and “morning town ride” (known as rocking rolling riding in our house)

justanothermanicmonday1 · 20/02/2024 22:43

You are my sunshine
Rock a by the bear
Miss Polly had a dolly
Wheels on the bus
Row row row the boat
shake your whammy fanny funky song😂😂😂

Basically anything that Miss Rachel or the wiggles song, we sing.

SunflowerSeeds123 · 20/02/2024 22:44

Mine is 17 and won't stop humming American Boy by Estelle at the moment. I sing The Killing Jar by Siouxie and the Banshees which drives her nuts.

When she was small I sang You are My Sunshine too. She has always lived pop and rock music though. Big fan of Florence Welch from Primary age.

ARMSDOWN · 20/02/2024 22:44

You are my sunshine I'd clearly loved universally!

This little light of mine and Hush Little Baby.

ButCanYouReallyNoThoughtNot · 20/02/2024 22:47

We quite often have a sing along in the kitchen when my lot all pop in at the same time:

Tots Tv (I'm a Tot, je suis un Tot etc)
The Thomas The Tank Engine Theme Tune
Little Red Caboose (Barney The Dinosaur) complete with train arms and a foray into the living room
Mr Sandman
Dream A Little Dream

DS 28
DD 30 (has to be serenaded with the Goodnight song from Bear in the Big Blue House when she stays over for work)
DS 35

givingupchocolatemonday · 20/02/2024 22:48

northernmamax · 20/02/2024 22:50

Mine have always loved Hey Jude

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/02/2024 22:51

My son won't let me sing at all (in fairness I have a rubbish voice) unless the song is the one about a duck going up to the lemonade stand.

Hey! (bom bom bom) Got any GRAPES?

DifferentAlgebra · 20/02/2024 22:54

‘Yellow Submarine’, ‘Children of the Revolution’ and ‘The Ship Song’. In return DS (11) will serenade me with Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheehan’s ‘Bad Habits’ and Wham…

Containergardener · 20/02/2024 22:59

Love is all around me (change to on mummy's love you can depend)
Edelweiss
Fields of gold
The lord of the dance
Love a Christmas carol at the right time of year

WomanInBlack78 · 20/02/2024 23:02

@ARMSDOWN I can’t get through you are my sunshine when singing to DD without one of us crying at the “you were gone and then I cried” line!

When mine were lullaby age, they got Waltzing Matilda, The Slow Train (Flanders & Swann) and I'll Never Find Another You (The Seekers). At Christmas they got Silent Night in German, cos I used to like singing it at school.

Viewfrommyhouse · 20/02/2024 23:04

Ds loved You Are My Sunshine and also Mr Sandman when he was little. He fucking hates me singing anything now 🤣

fileandpolish · 20/02/2024 23:05

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard

LizzieSiddal · 20/02/2024 23:07

Both my Dds loved Daisy Daisy Give Me Your Answer, Do.
It was a song my Grandma used to sing to me and I now sing it to my grandaughter 😊
