Has anyone had a GOOD experience of DFS

We are looking to purchase a new settee + chair from DFS (the Ted Baker range). We have been in store twice and really like it. We also had a look at one in sofology bur despite the assistant stating several times they don’t work on commission he really did the hard sell to the point of desperate! Anyway, we are pretty much set on the DFS one.

I have just had a look on the Facebook page and its comment after comment about issues, warnings to avoid etc. Obviously that’s alarming but I know that people only go on social media when something bad happens. This is our first settee we’ve purchased new, we’ve always had second hand or really cheap ones, but we’ve moved and finally have more money now so want a decent one. But now I’m put off!

3 sofas over 20 years and no problems at all. Great sofas that last forever 😄

SofaKingStressed · 18/02/2024 10:29

That’s great, really reassuring! Thank you so much. I’ve had a look and there’s no option to upgrade on the particular range so hopefully it’s good anyway!

Yes. Bought my sofa 7 years ago. Very happy with it.

No problems here

No problems here.
I'm sitting on a sofa we bought from them 10 years ago. Still going strong and still looks great.

bobby81 · 18/02/2024 13:43

I've had 3 sofas from them & never had any issues. One of them lasted about 15 years & I only got a new one as I fancied a change.

ThreeMetresSquare · 18/02/2024 13:43

We got both our main sofa sets from DFS, never had a problem. The first one lasted us 8 years and was still as comfy as ever but we just wanted an update as we'd moved house and it didn't fit as well as in the last living room. My children still lament about it's departure when they see it in old pictures and videos.

Our current one has been going for 2 years and no problems at all with it.

FrangipaniBlue · 18/02/2024 14:03

Currently sitting on my 19 year old DFS sofa!!

The only thing I would say is that I think the quality varies significantly by price range.

We bought ours at the same time as PIL, very similar in style but from 2 different ranges. Ours cost £3,500 theirs was £1,000. PILs didn't last nearly as long as ours. After around 6/7 years all the foam had sunk and deformed in the 2 places they sat the most.

ohskedaddle · 18/02/2024 14:07

I've had two previous three piece suites from there that lasted ten years each, only got rid of last one because I'd gone off it.

Replaced with one from a swanky independent place and I'm gutted with the quality of it. Seemed fine in the shop but it's crap after a year - cushions have all gone flat.

purplecorkheart · 18/02/2024 14:16

I know a few people who have had issues. The issues were regarding delivery dates and getting updates rather than the quality of the sofas. Admittedly this was all based on one branch

SofaKingStressed · 18/02/2024 20:04

Thanks everyone, we have taken the plunge and ordered the sofa and the chair so 🤞🏻 it all works out well

No issues here. I love my DFS sofa!

AnotherDayAnotherDoller · 18/02/2024 20:13

Used them 3 times and no issues at all. Only thing is I feel the fabric sofas loose their fullness and shape quite quickly but you can upgrade the fillings to tougher stuff I believe. I also know this is an issue from other retailers so not necessarily a DFS thing.

Mossstitch · 18/02/2024 20:20

Sat on one now, bought two sofas with loose covers that look alike but one is a sofa bed in 2010, very solid and they gave us free second set of cotton damask covers so can change the colour when I feel like a change. Weren't cheap, if I remember rightly £1200 for them both. I'm pretty bored of them now but still look like new so no excuse to replace them🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Splcam · 18/02/2024 20:23

4 sofas purchased from DFS between 2008 and 2020. No issues with them - just changed because I wanted a new sofa on 2 occasions and the 3rd was because we'd moved house and the sofa wasn't really working in what was a smaller living room. Quality good, price good, 1 brought in store, another over the phone and the last 2 online and never had any problems with the transactions. Delivery happened when I was told it would, including during the pandemic. And without the IFC option, I'd have been stuck with 2nd hand or super cheap sofas probably. That was also flexible as you could have shorter terms and pay it off faster. I also bought a bed from them - 10 years ago and only just changed the mattress for a new one. Best bed I've had! So yes, a very happy customer here. 🙂

DorothyZ · 18/02/2024 20:26

I bought online during Covid so never saw the sofas in real life.

It was easy, I paid to upgrade the foam filling and the sofas are as good as new still

Underthemagnificentbeechtree · 18/02/2024 20:26

I love our sofa and & armchair - just over 3 years old. I have two kids and wipe any stains as they happen (some kind of velvet), turn all the cushions a couple of times a week and it looks pretty new. We went for the upgraded foam in the seat cushions.

MIL had a much more expensive sofa (not DFS) around the same time with wool covers and it’s not stood the test of time despite no kids living in their house.

SushiMayo · 18/02/2024 20:26

Yes

TimeIhadaNightCapwithSanta · 18/02/2024 20:31

I have a dfs sofa that's ten years old. Absolutely fine except it's badly stained, bit with a young child I expect that. Would totally recommend.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 18/02/2024 20:38

Absolutely love our DFS sofa - it's nearly 5 years old, so comfy and looks like it will lady forever. We did upgrade to the hard(er) foam cushions but can't fault the the company 👍

SussexBonfireViking · 18/02/2024 20:44

Weirdly I've just found the receipts for our leather DFS sofas, they are 20 years old! Cost £1,240

They're a bit tatty now, but they've lasted really well

user1469207397 · 18/02/2024 20:47

Bought one from the Country Living range - couldn't be more pleased with it.

Fr7fr6 · 18/02/2024 20:50

No issues whatsoever, we are really happy with the sofas and the service we received. The staff member got us a discount and when the sofa went on sale a few days later, I called and was given the sale price plus the discount.

Namechangetoponder · 18/02/2024 20:51

We had always bought sofas from them on 4 year plan, sofas well and truly fucked before 4 years due to flatness and such.

Powertoyou · 18/02/2024 20:52

We bought 2 leather reclining sofas from them about 9 years ago. Still look new and are comfortable and are well used. The salesman was very helpful and said to buy a recliner which was electric rather than manual. We bought one of each and he was right. The manual one is down or up nothing in between.
I avoided DFS for years having listened to the reviews and jokes about their sales. Go ahead and buy from them, we couldn’t be happier with our sofa’s.
