Presume little chance of getting a council house 2nd in line

Hello
I just came in second for one council house yesterday and after being first in line for another I really liked the look off I dipped to 2nd just before closing. So I'm 2nd in line for 2. I am in band 1 (top band) as I'm in hospital. I bid on basically every property and these are the first I've come 2nd in I know people do refuse properties but I know the people above me will be in band 1 as well and you get taken off the housing list if you refuse the property (unless for a medical reason) so I presume the chances are slim. I'm So ready to get out of hospital. Anyone experienced similar?

Oh good luck OP. Not me but a client DH works with was in the same situation couldn't be discharged without a suitable property. People in band 1 will be there for different reasons. The one he ended up with was ideal for him but someone with physical mobility issues probably not. You couldn't see from the pictures but the garden path led to another path so all looked flat and level, but to get to the actual pavement to go anywhere you had to go down old stone steps. I think he was third but ended up getting it because when it was viewed for the others it wasn't suitable due to their health needs. That was HA but assume similar processes.

Thank you I really hope I get one of them. Been in hospital 2 years so it's a long time coming. Was gutted when just at the end I went to 2nd! On my council housing it's council housing + HA so both houses im 2nd for are the same HA

Good luck.
Here we get to turn down three.. my friend has turned down two disability adjusted flats ..so if she bids on the third she has to take it.
Hope you get what you want .

Dontdeclutterthemagic · 16/02/2024 12:05

Sometimes although someone places 1st the property isn't actually suitable for them (e.g. disabled adaptation, they have bid for the wrong no of bedrooms) so don't give up hope.

I work in this area and we often offer properties to those lower down on the final bid position for various reasons. Good luck and I hope you get sorted.

falalalalalalalallama · 16/02/2024 12:08

2nd place is excellent!

The 1st placed person might be 1st on more than one place. Or they might turn it down for whatever reason.

Let us know how you get on! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Matildahoney · 16/02/2024 12:12

My mum was 8th in line for her house, but she was the only one from the area so got it. Good luck op

overthehill23 · 16/02/2024 12:17

Thank you ! You can refuse 3 if your in the lower bands but not top band. I think I'm 'lucky' in the sense area doesn't matter my council housing area covers a very large area and I'll move anywhere in it.
You only get one photo (somtimes non!) and a small description. One closed yesterday the other today and you can see when they are let to.

Everything crossed! You've no way of knowing, because of the others peoples circumstances but hope you get sorted.

ToHellBackAndBeyond · 16/02/2024 12:26

Good luck, I hope you get one of the homes.

Easterness · 16/02/2024 12:30

Very often. I worked for a HA for years. It wasn't a dead cert that the first place got the house. Good luck to you

Elleherd · 16/02/2024 13:15

Some time back, but got our one offer only, no pics, flat after many years waiting.
Warned it was a basement, small windows and dark hence on the hard to let list. I said I'd obviously be taking it, as no choice.
We got there and the ceilings were lower than the height of my family, they literally couldn't stand up straight in any room.
I went back really upset as I'd been warned take it or get nothing, but it was going to have awful repercussions on everyone's backs.
I was asked if I wanted to consider an unfit to let sub standard property off list.
I grabbed that one on a diy deal, and another (shorter!) family suddenly found themselves having to gear up fast to snap up the low ceiling basement flat.
Odd things can happen that change everything. Good luck.

LilBus · 16/02/2024 13:17

I was second place for mine and got it

overthehill23 · 16/02/2024 14:44

Well one of the ones I came second on says 'match rejected' does anyone know what this means ?

OP posts:
overthehill23 · 16/02/2024 15:07

I rang the council and they said they aren't sure why I wasn't matched and they are finding out why but I have been skipped for one of the properties and by the time it's been looked into the other one would have been skipped as they can't ring me till next week

OP posts:
Beezknees · 16/02/2024 15:34

I was second when I got mine, but it was a top floor flat which I imagine put the other bidder off. I was in band B living in a hostel at the time.

overthehill23 · 16/02/2024 16:08

I asked if they had any idea why I was skipped and they said he couldn't answer and to wait to hear next week. Why does things have to happen on a Friday !

OP posts:
Topofthemountain · 16/02/2024 16:40

Match Rejected is sometimes used if the advert has had to be pulled after closing. If they have skipped you for any reason then it should just say skipped.

Match Rejected is also used when someone rejects a property.

overthehill23 · 16/02/2024 16:42

Ah well they said they are dining next week to tell me. He wants a hauling officer but he cousins see the reason I was skipped. Hopefully nothings wrong.

OP posts:
overthehill23 · 16/02/2024 16:42

Cause I certainly haven't rejected it!

OP posts:
overthehill23 · 16/02/2024 20:42

So many typing errors. Sorry am very stressed. The person I initially rang said he couldn't speculate as to the reason why I'd been skipped and a housing officer will be in contact next week but as I said this means the other house I'm 2nd on will be skipped to. I just want to go home I'm autistic and struggle with not knowing information

OP posts:
Honeypot14 · 16/02/2024 23:05

Good luck OP. I hope you get housed soon. I know how frustrating it is :(

overthehill23 · 19/02/2024 15:04

I got skipped for the property as it went to someone else as I belive an emergency. So nothing to do with my application. I'm still in second for another house and been told I should be contacted within the next week or two if the first person refuses. Really like the look of that house to.

Candleabra · 19/02/2024 15:27

Good luck

Topofthemountain · 19/02/2024 16:06

Good luck. At least you know what is going on now.

Elleherd · 19/02/2024 18:59

Hang on in there, it sounds like you're close to the start of your new chapter. Wishing you lots of luck.
