A house has been sneered at on twitter by a journalist so I went looking. In my opinion it's perfectly fine, take away the owners personal belongings its clean, tidy and neutral. I've seen some doozies on there this isn't one of them

"3 bedroom semi-detached house for sale in Thomas Drive, Prescot, L35" https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/144648836#/?channel=RES_BUY

Check out this 3 bedroom semi-detached house for sale on Rightmove

Well clearly the owner has no taste - whether that's newsworthy is another matter.

TheSnakeCharmer · 15/02/2024 20:21

I wouldn't be surprised if it were owned by a Gypsy or Traveller family. That is quite common decor in their community. The women chose the decor hence why it tends to be more feminine. They also keep their homes spotless, which that one is.

Different chairs & it was in a conservatory with a grey carpet iirc.

Possibly the top was a slightly different pattern.

I meant the same table, not the same house!

I saw the article and thought it was so rude and snobby. It’s clean and tidy and all the decorative bits would go with the owners.

the house I’m in now had decorative elements I hated - marble coffee table, fabric padded pelmets on all the curtains like it’s an old, big country house/National trust property (it’s a newbuild rectangle). But that’s all gone with the previous owners and we’ve made it our own.

ClemmyTine · 15/02/2024 21:07

I think the owner is a Gypsy. That's very much the style.

Leftphalange100 · 15/02/2024 21:08

Definitely a traveller home.

Not my taste but that's fine. People need to be able to see past decor and furniture and imagine their own style when viewing homes.

diddl · 15/02/2024 21:09

all the decorative bits would go with the owners.

Indeed!

People are posting as if you'd be forced to buy it with all the contents!

Fetaa · 15/02/2024 21:12

A great house, it’s just furnishings which are not to taste.

WillYouPutYourCoatOn · 15/02/2024 21:12
  1. it's a travellers house, hence the decor, all of which will be gone

  2. do you understand how immaculate and pristinely that house will have been kept? Quite a savvy buy there will be zero chipped skirting or mould in the bathroom

ClemmyTine · 15/02/2024 21:23

The cooker probably won't have been used. I'm surprised there's no plastic covering on the settees.

Define taste.

megletthesecond · 15/02/2024 22:30

It's pretty grim tbh. No garden either.

underneaththeash · 15/02/2024 22:31

Define taste.

I'm not sure I need to.

roundtable · 15/02/2024 22:36

It's just another way to get a dig into travellers I presume. The house is immaculate, just not to some people's taste. No need for the nastiness though.

hellsBells246 · 15/02/2024 22:42

Dontlookatmelikethat · 15/02/2024 18:27

So it's been sneered at on MN, Twitter and the DM.

People are awful. I was recently house hunting and saw some crazy decor that wasn't to my taste, frequently. It.never occurred to me to get online and say "hey everyone, look at this house on Rightmove that isn't decorated to my own personal taste, let's all take the piss out of it and be really judgmental & nasty about it, that should make us all feel really superior and great about ourselves!"

This!

Greensleevevssnotnose · 15/02/2024 22:45

I mean, it's very 80s footballer pad, but you have to look past that

TempleOfBloom · 15/02/2024 22:45

Dreadful photos. Close ups of fluffy cushions rather than of the room they are in. Idiotic estate agents

theduchessofspork · 15/02/2024 22:46

It’s fairy crazy interior design, but anyway, it’ll have helped them get a quick sale

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 15/02/2024 22:49

tillytoodles1 · 15/02/2024 18:14

It's not my taste, but it looks like a perfectly nice house once they remove all their furnishings.
As I said in a previous discussion, it's probably travellers who live there and that's how they like their houses to look.

I was thinking the same, the sneering is misogyny mixed with anti traveler racism (the big bows very feminine but immaculately tidy and clean house is what reminded me of traveler homes)

CunkEverywhereOnEverything · 15/02/2024 22:55

I saw this earlier and thought the same: what’s the big deal? Sure I wouldn’t choose that furniture for my home but the house looks immaculately clean, none of the actual decor is offensive- even the live laugh love stuff looks like it’s coming down? The kitchen isn’t what I’d choose but perfectly liveable.

Honestly I hope the current owners aren’t too upset by all this negative attention as it’s really unfair.

Bubblybooboo · 15/02/2024 23:15

People are snobs that’s why.
The house is fine and while many houses will have decor people don’t like, people seem to be extra critical of decor of this type, and use horrible words like “chavvy”.

I don’t know why, given most peoples home are devoted according to some trend or other and will look bad in the future. Very few people have truly good and individual classic taste.

SweetBirdsong · 15/02/2024 23:18

Not my taste, but as has been said, no need for cruelty.

justasking111 · 15/02/2024 23:19

It looks clean I know if I bought it I wouldn't be ripping up carpets, it's actually very neutral. Our house had wallpaper that was big mauve flowers, mauve carpet, that went first. Then the bright yellow hall. Otherwise it was neutral.
