UK officially in recession...

Latest stats released show the UK is now officially in recession (Office for national statistic data).

Gaslighting has started in the media by ministers to try to minimise that fact.

Isn't it time to face the facts instead and call a general election?

I know the picture is bleak and any new party in power will need years to try to sort out this mess but something needs to be done...

The UK's decline in the past few decade or so has really been dramatic.

Labour will come in chanting ‘We’ll fix the NHS, we’ll bring it babk’ when the least they will do is chuck billions at it (not knowing where the money’s coming from)

We all know this is BS @StarDolphins the labour party have made it clear they have a lot to do to clear up the shit and won't be performing any miracles.

Time will tell, Hope but doubt you’re right! Said from someone who will be voting Labour this time!

PartyLikeIts2024 · 15/02/2024 17:24

Last thing we need in a recession is an election and the possibility of a piss poor party run by idiots. I know that's what we've got now but it's a known quantity, labour will try to change too much and make it worse.

I never said they weren’t? 🤣 CP & LP are both utterly crap.

Your post - Safe routes via France and clearing backlog. You’ll increase demand.

Even Starmer isn’t doing that. Think it’s offshore processing now

I don’t think he knows quite, but I’m sure he’ll fill you in at some point

Isn’t offshore processing and processing in France the same thing?
Again - the mechanism for efficient processing increasing numbers…? No?

This is such a terrible argument to vote Conservative 🤣

Looked at the German economy recently?

Since 2010 Germany GDP per capita is up 23% Vs our up 17%. Although the US is up nearly 45% so...

Imo partly a global & partly tories. However, Labour taking us through covid/lockdown, an aging population, immigration, wars, would’ve been a shitshow.

Ya think?
I think it would have been better. And are you suggesting it wasn’t a shit show as it stands?

The poss poor government of idiots is what we have. How can you look at the two front benches and conclude the Tory one is more competent? Unless public school boys are your kink…

It's not an argument to vote conservative it's an argument to not hold a GE. Change of leadership during a period of unrest is not a good idea, especially if a war is also likely.

Even if the leadership are shote and likely the cause of the unrest? Did you use this argument during the global financial crisis?

Given large amounts of the labour party are also public school boys who have yet to either elect a woman or person of colour to their leadership I'm not sure where you expected that comment to land.

Impact of Brexit can’t be overestimated. I now live in an EU country having lived in the U.K. for decades. I’m in the midst of a massive house renovation which involves sourcing many, many products. Every time I find an item from a U.K. manufacturer/supplier online (which is often - both very small and not so small firms, there are so many fantastic products) I am faced with the headache of customs and all the extra charges and admin. More and more I tend to filter on EU originating only. The impact of Brexit on business, especially small ones that haven’t been able to set up an EU entity must be humongous. And it’s ongoing.

Is that you, Rishi?

We have to have an election. Unless you advocate cancelling it?

It was a shitshow but imo it would’ve been equally as bad under Labour. My point being that (again, my opinion) recession as it stands today is not the entire fault of CP like people like to make out. There would’ve been a recession whoever was in.

GeneCity · 15/02/2024 17:42

@PartyLikeIts2024, I'll take sub-optimal timing for a general election over the status quo of corruption, greed, and incompetence thanks 🙂.

I'm not defending the current government you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. Globally everything is a shit show. Stability is needed. What is very likely to happen is extremism is going to increase - we are already seeing it in France.

Go on - who? Starmer went to a school that became independent while he was there. Don’t think that counts. Streeting? Nope. Lammy? I guess. As a result of his talent as a chorister. Who are you thinking of?
Edit: I’m not sure electing Truss is a recommendation…

You really think Boris & Liz Truss were a success? that whilst they all pissed it up, they also managed LD correctly????

The disaster which was Afghanistan & the tripling of migration under Labour of approx to 200k in 2009/10 to 750k in 2023 and set to increase by 6m over the next 5 years.

The Tory is strong in you.

The very last thing the weak and venal Tories are offering is stability.

Le Penn and RN are middle of the road, compared to the current Tory party.

Didn't you see Sunak cuddling up to Georgia Meloni at a conf of the far right in Italy recent?
