UK officially in recession...

Latest stats released show the UK is now officially in recession (Office for national statistic data).

Gaslighting has started in the media by ministers to try to minimise that fact.

Isn't it time to face the facts instead and call a general election?

I know the picture is bleak and any new party in power will need years to try to sort out this mess but something needs to be done...

The UK's decline in the past few decade or so has really been dramatic.

Last thing we need in a recession is an election and the possibility of a piss poor party run by idiots. I know that's what we've got now but it's a known quantity, labour will try to change too much and make it worse.

Tough. Because we’ve got to have one at some point in the next eight months and it’s not going to get any better by December. How any party could make things worse is beyond me.

SerendipityJane · 15/02/2024 17:46

Impact of Brexit can’t be overestimated.

Not mentioned once in the BBC analysis of the situation. So clearly it can.

You really think Boris & Liz Truss were a success? that whilst they all pissed it up, they also managed LD correctly????

The disaster which was Afghanistan & the tripling of migration under Labour of approx to 200k in 2009/10 to 750k in 2023 and set to increase by 6m over the next 5 years.

The Tory is strong in you.

Labour vote for me.

However, you’ve just literally plucked the below beauty from nowhere🤣 i clearly not RTWT

Go on - who? Starmer went to a school that became independent while he was there. Don’t think that counts. Streeting? Nope. Lammy? I guess. As a result of his talent as a chorister. Who are you thinking of?
Edit: I’m not sure electing Truss is a recommendation…

Edited

According to Google 1 in 7 labour MPs went to private school, that's not including those that attended grammar school.

Oh they can quite easily make it worse. Both parties can very easily make life worse.

Obviously it’s not including those who went to grammar school. Meanwhile, how many Tory MPs went to public schools? Two thirds of the current cabinet and two of the last five PMs went to Eton.

Which considering they are a Conservative party should be unsurprising

Ursulla · 15/02/2024 17:53

Going to private school is neither here nor there. The current PM and his mates + Pfeffel are mega fucking massive super rich with globally positioned wealth, assets and investments and they have made loads of money from the economic mismanagement of the UK.

Such is the nature of that party and the people who vote for them. I'm really not understanding the problem.

Yes, your schooling shouldn't matter but the super rich governing us clearly isn't working.

You think all their voters are privately educated? How does that work when only 7% of the population attends private schools?

Reminds me of a joke in the 80s ...

50% of the Tory party went to public school/oxbridge
60% of the government went went to public school/oxbridge
70% of the BBC went to public school/oxbridge
90% of the KGB went to public school/oxbridge ....

So you’re admitting Tories are the party of the rich?

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 15/02/2024 17:57

@PartyLikeIts2024 in case you haven't noticed we've had multiple changes of leadership.

14% of labour MPs went to one. Many labour voters are not from the demographic they claim labour should represent.

@PartyLikeIts2024, I'll take sub-optimal timing for a general election over the status quo of corruption, greed, and incompetence thanks 🙂.

And so say all of (the normal people amongst) us

PartyLikeIts2024 · 15/02/2024 17:58

cardibach · 15/02/2024 17:57

So you’re admitting Tories are the party of the rich?

Of course they are. Do please look up the difference between what the two parties stand for and their core principles

BIossomtoes · 15/02/2024 17:58

PartyLikeIts2024 · 15/02/2024 17:56

What's the alternative?

A government comprised of people who understand life in the world most of us inhabit. Of people who have done real jobs.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 15/02/2024 17:59

@StarDolphins but why would it? What are your exact reasons for stating that?

cardibach · 15/02/2024 17:59

PartyLikeIts2024 · 15/02/2024 17:56

What's the alternative?

People with some level of competence? Some care for the rest of the population?

SerendipityJane · 15/02/2024 18:00

Apparently it's our fault for not spending enough.

So if Tories are out for themselves and their mates, and you recognise that, why do you think they should govern us all?
