For me it's social media and sugar.

Ate so much crap today, actually quite looking forward to it.

Carbs. Trying the keto diet.

Cornishbelle · 13/02/2024 21:58

Temporaryname158 · 13/02/2024 21:59

Sweets and chocolate - it will be a challenge as I eat both every day

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 13/02/2024 22:00

vodka4mum · 13/02/2024 22:02

Not a thing

GreenBeanGuzzler · 13/02/2024 22:03

Weighing myself. Anyone else?

Peregrina · 13/02/2024 22:03

Biscuits. Partly on religious grounds and partly because guzzling half a packet at a time has caused me to put on half a stone in a month!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/02/2024 22:10

I’m giving up vinted and Amazon.
I’ve already done 44 days without alcohol and I’m carrying on but I don’t feel like that counts as it’s not just lent.

PandaG · 13/02/2024 22:12

Meat

TheTwirlyPoos · 13/02/2024 22:15

Magnificen · 13/02/2024 22:16

Do none of you think its weird to use a religious festival to try and lose weight?

Banshee9 · 13/02/2024 22:16

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 13/02/2024 22:00

Alcohol.

same here

DrSeuss · 13/02/2024 22:18

The weight of society's expectations of women.
Oh crap, I forgot. I already did that!

TheTwirlyPoos · 13/02/2024 22:20

@Magnificen er no, I'm a practising Christian so not using anything for anything I'm doing what my religion tells me to. That ok?

Walkingwithdinosaurs · 13/02/2024 22:28

Giving up sugar
Taking up smoking again… I miss it.

honeyfox · 13/02/2024 22:29

Nothing. Lent was hell as a Catholic child!

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 13/02/2024 22:32

Sugar, and MN! This is my last day on here till Easter Sunday. This place is a thief of time and it’s good for me to use Lent to reset my priorities.

When I retire I will consider giving up alcohol: if I did that now it would be a penance for my colleagues, which is not the point.

Meadowy · 13/02/2024 22:32

Nothing, I’m not religious. I don’t understand the point of giving something up, it seems very inward looking to me. Much more useful to try to do something positive that will help others.

flowertoday · 13/02/2024 22:37

Being so hard on myself.
Also will aim to be kind whenever any opportunity presents itself.
I am not a Christian, but have always felt that the people who do lent best look outwards rather than inwards. Eating bread or not = no positive impact. Making some bread or other food to share with those who need it = much more helpful.

Peregrina · 13/02/2024 22:47

As a practicing Christian - lent a good starting point. Otherwise it would be tomorrow, which would never come. Ideally though, the money spent on said biscuits could be given to charity.

Besides we have no trouble with religious festivals which allow us to put on weight.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/02/2024 22:49

Abstinence

That's kind of the point. It's meant to be a time of self discipline when you assess priorities and aim to be better. So doing good, helping others, being nicer, more thoughtful etc are all positive things to try and achieve, religious or not.

Nowhere are you told to give things up but that's a matter of choice. No one ever says they're giving up sprouts and broccoli for Lent so I guess doing without a simple pleasure for a while is a bit of a personal test.
Not saying I achieve any of the above but it's worth a try.

43ontherocksporfavor · 13/02/2024 22:57

Nothing . Was brought up Catholic and hated Lent. Glad to no longer be practising.
