I've never been brave enough to give up tea, I tried once, and people begged me to start drinking it again !!! I'm a tea monster-I must drink at least 8 mugs a day, but this is the year to do it 😱What are you giving up?

I think I need to go cold turkey on the M&S biscuits. Oh why are they so damn good?!😣

We don’t give up anything as such, we do a Lent Box - the same principle as a reverse Advent Calendar. Every day something goes in the box and at Easter (or just before) it goes to the local food bank. DS used to be really enthusiastic at about it when he was younger.

AlphaB3tty · 13/02/2024 07:41

I'd like to give up my DH.

This is a great idea. Thanks for that.

We are re-doing dry January and giving up alcohol for Lent ( except Sundays as I learned on here that those don’t count towards the 40 days) .

I used to give up my in-laws for Lent but as they are no longer with us, I have to do something else🙄

Damnloginpopup · 13/02/2024 07:55

Nothing. And I'm going to gorge myself on pancakes at 9, 1 & 6.

FatLarrysBanned · 13/02/2024 07:57

Instagram. I spend far too much time in the evenings doom scrolling when I could be doing something productive or even giving something on TV my full attention. I have the attention span of a goldfish and feel addicted to my phone. Have got a pile of books beside the bed and a junk room which needs attention to keep me busy.

DeanElderberry · 13/02/2024 08:04

Alcohol and sweet stuff. Equivalent money to go into a charity collection. reading a bit more Bible, both alone and a group.

Years ago, working in a very nasty work environment, I gave up complaining about people, particularly one middle manager - that was HARD WORK.

Berlinlover · 13/02/2024 08:05

Nothing, I’m an Atheist.

IncompleteSenten · 13/02/2024 08:05

Nothing. I'm not a practicing christian.

Tbh even if I was I doubt I have the will power 😁

DeanElderberry · 13/02/2024 08:08

But today it's gonna pancakes pancakes pancakes. I'm even doing savoury ones, I made leeks and ham in cheese sauce last week, and froze a bit of the ham and the sauce, reckoning that that with tiny button mushrooms would be good, and different from the bacon and maple syrup or lemon and sugar that will also happen in the vicinity of pancakes today.

Maybe salad for lunch though. Maybe.

DogandMog · 13/02/2024 08:19

I’m Orthodox Christian, so Great Lent for us doesn’t start for another month (March 18).

We’re called on to fast from all animal products, so basically vegan (except shellfish) and alcohol (which I seldom drink anyway tbf), so I’ll be eating simple plant based meals… kind of against the spirit to go & pig out on Gü vegan desserts and meaty analogues. The week before is Cheesefare week, so I’ll eat all the cheeses 🧀

Also generally to give up sin 😁 and our particular vices that pull us out of alignment with God, so for me I’m going to knock my MN, Twitter & Vinted habit on the head for the duration 🫣 Instead, reading more of the bible/saints’ writings, give to charity, pray a lot, more contemplative walks in the countryside.

Achingjoists874 · 13/02/2024 08:21

I’m cutting down on sugar over the whole of Lent but mainly I’m getting up earlier to walk more.

Weirdle · 13/02/2024 08:28

Possibly the S&B board …

I’m always the sucker who believes the title or OP asking for ‘fabulous’ or ‘complete revamp’ or ‘suitable for new hot shot job, money no object’ and scurries off to find the perfect thing, only for OP to vomit all over my suggestions and kiss the feet of posters bringing Phase Eight, Bombshell and M&S.

I’m out. Will finally catch up on all the books I’ve been neglecting. Grin

Ive gjven up on giving up

Me too!

I'm tired of constantly worrying about my calorie intake and feeling guilty if I have a bar of chocolate.

I've been doing this my whole adult life and have been overweight. Utter nonsense.

I'm got a healthy BMI, I exercise every day, blood pressure is good.

I'm giving up self-sabotaging my wellbeing.

If I ever did become overweight things would obviously be different.

Dorriethelittlewitch · 13/02/2024 13:20

Diet fizzy drinks and cutting back on social media

Caswallonthefox · 13/02/2024 13:37

Chocolate.

Toooldtocareanymore · 13/02/2024 13:45

Hatty65 · 13/02/2024 13:51

I really need to give up sugar. It would have a massive positive impact on my life.

aitchteeaitch · 13/02/2024 13:53

Mumsnet. 😂😂😂

kimberly489 · 13/02/2024 14:03

I don't get what's wrong with drinking tea? The calories from the milk..? It isn't unhealthy is it?

elp30 · 13/02/2024 14:22

I no longer drink alcohol or eat meat but since I've returned to the Catholic Church in the past year, I thought it would be appropriate to give up something for Lent that would be a real challenge.

I'm giving up swearing. Out loud, at least.

I am bilingual so I have an extra wonderful array of colorful words. I've said some words that have taken people aback that had them applauding with such awe of my creativity. I even combine the two languages to give my emotions just that extra punch to ensure more people get the message.

I may be a very long 40 days.

ifonly4 · 13/02/2024 14:44

Nothing because I don't feel I need or want to. However, if I was going to give up something, it'd be something unhealthy like crisps, biscuits, chocolates and I'd put them in the food bank for someone else to enjoy.
