The top floor of this house!

I know lots of MN are squeamish about all ensuites, but open plan ensuites really are gross, and I can't see any reason at all for them! Why would you not just put a wall there!?

About as classy as having a toilet next to your bed.

It’s the bed I’m aghast at — is that a sort of leather surround? Ugh.

ShowOfHands · 11/02/2024 09:36

We're going on holiday with the in-laws in June. 20 of us going, staying in a big, very nice house on the south coast. I've been looking forward to it for a year. They've been renovating over winter and have added lots of extras. Room allocations done this week and our room now has an open plan bathroom, including toilet. Waste of space. I'll use the bath quite happily but the toilet will be off limits for the entire stay. I'm really disappointed. The house has lots of other bathrooms. It really isn't necessary.

GalileoHumpkins · 11/02/2024 09:38

The bed obviously doubles as a dinghy in emergencies!

Getthethrowonthesofa · 11/02/2024 09:39

What a beautiful home. That room would be great for guests or teens. My daughter would love it.

So you can't afford this so you're questioning someone's taste.

Classy

I think it’s more that she’s slightly freaked by the open plan loo.

Baths you do get, loo.. that is weird

I absolutely can’t afford this. Not bitter or jealous, I still don’t want to take a shit in my bedroom.

😂

Nor me.

EndlesslyDistracted · 11/02/2024 09:43

Is that a water bed? Haven't seen one of those in many years. I agree about the toilet, ok if you are on your own but not for sharers. I also agree about the poor quality photos.

That's me, I'm not a fan of ensuites at all, but I think us weirdos are in the minority really!

Alwayswonderedwhy · 11/02/2024 09:50

Its an unusual house. The kitchen design is really bad and why did they put the bin in the middle for the photo? Strange way to arrange the long curtain's in the living room too.

Outthedoor24 · 11/02/2024 10:17

Why on earth have they not put a partition between the loo and the bed.
The bath I could live with. But somebody having a dump while their partner is in bed is a bit minging

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/02/2024 10:24

Maybe they spent all the budget on the hideous sex people bed and the couldn't afford a partioning wall. I mean they seem to have not heard of swing bins either. It's sad when you live in a £1.6m house but have no where to put your kitchen bin! 😆

The faux country house vibe of the living room is also bit special.

kierenthecommunity · 11/02/2024 10:30

Well I’m not jealous or bitter, and I definitely couldn’t afford it but I’m questioning their taste on that ghastly stately house style panelling on what looks like an early 1900s house 😳

It’s also weirdly designed it that if you’re in the first floor bedrooms you have to go downstairs to use the bathroom. That was probably the design when the house was built but for the thick end of 2 million I’d want an en-suite 😉

I do like the little balcony thing though 😃

UnctuousUnicorns · 11/02/2024 10:35

It should be simple enough to wall off the bathroom to make it a standard ensuite, and make sure it had a decent ventilation system or not allow any number twos in it . If I loved the house and location, and had the money, that's what I'd do.

ArrestHer · 11/02/2024 10:41

Why is the bin in the middle of the kitchen floor blocking access to the back corner? Is there something I’m missing if I was looking in a bigger screen than my phone?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/02/2024 10:43

I have something similar but there is a partition.

Also I sleep alone.

Apart from the cats that is and I do frequently have to point out that I don't stare at them on their litterboxes.

I love the Green Man Fireplace!

Classy

I can afford this and I think it’s ick.

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/02/2024 10:45

I wouldn't do it, even If I lived alone. The cleanest, best ventilated bathroom will still have a bathroom type smell and I don't want that in my bedroom.

Autumn1990 · 11/02/2024 10:46

They’ve done the expensive bit and put the plumbing in. A stud wall is fairly cheap and easy to put in!

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/02/2024 10:46

@Teq 🤣 I can't afford it, but one of my favourite past times is judging the tasteless houses of rich people.

Aparecium · 11/02/2024 11:01

I quite like the house. It's quirky. Even though totally not what I'm looking for.

I'd keep the olde worlde sitting room, keep the half-landing bathroom where it is, turn the LG room into a playroom/dayroom/guestroom, turn the walk-in wardrobe into a bedroom, redo the kitchen and turn that whole floor into a kitchen-diner. But first and foremost I would put a wall in that master bedroom!

We had this sort of set up in a holiday house last summer. Luckily there was an extra bedroom and we moved rooms. I couldn't cope with going to the loo... next to DH in bed even if we have been together 30 years.

cashmerecardigans · 11/02/2024 12:28

Forget the toilet in the bedroom. That bin in the kitchen would drive me mad. It would be in the way all the time, it's so badly designed

quisensoucie · 11/02/2024 12:30

Nooooooo!
Bathroom and bedroom needs their own rooms!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 11/02/2024 12:35

I'm with you OP, the only place I've seen this before is in guesthouse/BnB conversions. Certainly wouldn't expect a on show shitter in a nearly £2 million quid house.
