I've booked tickets to a circus for the Friday before kids go back to school booked them ages ago so they were super cheap but I have no idea what I'll be doing the rest of the week
It's so cold and miserable I'm finding it hard to be motivated to plan things right now
Here for ideas

CutiePatooties · 09/02/2024 09:35

Chessington for an overnight stay, making a special Valentine’s brekky for my girls and giving them lots of presents/balloons etc, then out for valentines treats.

There’s a Chinese new year festival near us, so heading to that. There’s also another local event for families, with free gifts and activities for kids, so we’ll check that out too.

The rest will be chilling at home, taking them to a soft play centre, round to see grandparents and doing lots of homework for my girl in Y2.

I have somehow booked various house things that mean we need to be in for most of the week. Exciting things but for me - getting the kitchen tiled, having new doors fitted, things like that 😂

We're seeing two sets of friends for play dates on the Weds and Thursday, and DH also has the Thursday and Friday off so we're going to probably do something on one of those. I still want to book in opticians appointments all around, and I'd like to get out and 'do' something - I was thinking about heading up to Canary Wharf and doing the Museum of London Docklands followed by the evening light show maybe.

CalmAChameleon · 09/02/2024 09:53

National Trust place on one day (already members, so free)

Playdate arranged for another day

Free local children's museum

Visiting grandparents

Hoping to arrange another playdate, and considering a train trip to a science museum as well, maybe with lunch out.

I'm aiming for one outing every day and apart from that a chance to get out all the craft kits, books etc from Christmas that haven't been explored yet. Plus pancake making on Tuesday.

It’s my DS (9)’s swimming party the first weekend of the half term.

I have my kids booked in for intensive swimming lessons Mon - Fri morning.

Possibilities are: Chill out at home, trip to the park, play centre, feed the ducks, bike riding, homework.

Then at the tail end of the half term that end weekend it’s my DS (11)’s birthday party at a big inflatable/ trampoline park.

So in summary. Two birthday parties, intensive swimming lessons for 5 days and everything else in between! 😅

frozendaisy · 09/02/2024 10:08

Absolutely nothing.

All last year super packet school holidays this one week is for seeing where the day takes us.

If it's hammering down we shall stay in and master homemade popcorn or something

If they are bored I'll teach them to clean windows properly or something

Don't care we all need a week of no plans

TeenLifeMum · 09/02/2024 10:14

Escape room and meal out (dd1’s birthday), dc having sleep overs, dog walks and lazing… work is exhausting so doing nothing will feature some days!

rockingbird · 09/02/2024 10:21

We sat down last night and discussed this.. we have written down on a little piece of paper one thing we'd like to do .. one child has chosen a local (ish) assault course type / trampoline park. The other has chosen the local wildlife park with adventure playground / garden centre and superb cafe (delighted with this choice)! I chose a trip to London to a museum. Swimming was also put in the mix as we are members at the gym and it's free and they have an amazing pool and hot tub (both now old enough to get in it). Then I sat and watched the Alan Titchmarsh programme.. all about the Isle of Wight. Never been.. looked fabulous, so guess what I've booked from Thursday - Sunday as a surprise 🤭 that should keep us busy!!

Girasoli · 09/02/2024 10:23

House sitting for the in laws in London for a few days - a mix of doing touristy things (museum and park) and catching up with BIL and London friends.

Echobelly · 09/02/2024 10:34

Kids are older now so not so much i have to do. I'm in an odd place as my role is at risk of redundancy and I'm in the review period until Friday, when I don't have to work, just be contactable but I've been doing some tying things up.

As it's half term I've pretty much told my manager I don't plan to work much next week and want to do some stuff with the kids. Nothing like all day every day but I might take them out late afternoon. Teenager really wants a meal at IKEA, so I said I'd take them midweek 😆

I want to live with you 😂 ♥️

devildeepbluesea · 09/02/2024 10:45

DD and I are off to that London.
Seeing family, doing touristy stuff, eating out and going to see Hamilton.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/02/2024 10:45

Decided I couldn't do another Feb half term trying to think of activities to do while it rains and is cold so me and DD are going to Butlin's Skegness while DH stays home and works. On-site clubs and entertainment and lots of icecream/funfair food.

rockingbird · 09/02/2024 10:47

@CutiePatooties 😆 we always need a plan or the week just slips away and we achieve very little - then I get mum guilt because we've done nothing! Each morning we will choose one of the little pieces of paper from the bowl (all folded up so no peeking) whatever comes out we do. I work remotely from home part time so just change my hours a little so we are good to go by 11am. Being two pre-teen boys they'd happily to sod all.. 🥴 but I get them out the house regardless.

Moier · 09/02/2024 10:53

We have a quiet half term. Because Grandkids are
home educated and ASD.. so we miss our usually weekly swims .. our library and museum visits and try to keep out of busy towns etc.. so we actually do the opposite of other people's plans..
We do those things during in school terms when it's less busy / noisy/ crowded.

helpnohelpno · 09/02/2024 12:33

Monday a local museum about computer games. Tuesday an activity centre that's free as we went last half term and got a year pass. Weds we are visiting my dd and thurs / Fri he's off to grandparents as I'm working. He's off today too (teacher training) so we are chilling today at home.

PlumpAndGrump · 09/02/2024 12:35

Cinema tonight, football match tomorrow, NT day out on Tuesday and roller disco either Monday or Wednesday.

I have a mums night out too 🎉

Decafflatteplease · 09/02/2024 12:38

all the usual stuff on a budget... swimming (annual pass), free nature reserve, national trust (annual pass) plus we have haircuts, opticians and dentist booked! Also a trip into the city to spend Christmas book vouchers!

DrCoconut · 09/02/2024 12:40

We were going for a city break but I'm going to have to cancel as DS has been really ill. I'm not planning anything now other than getting him well.

Lucylou07 · 09/02/2024 13:52

Nothing majorly exciting. Dentist, haircut, shoes. A trip to a local attraction. Couple of play dates. Some DIY. I also have a couple of uni assignments due at the end of the month. All of us are off so me and DH will juggle the kids between us

CutiePatooties · 09/02/2024 14:25

@rockingbird you sound like such a wonderful mum. They will certainly cherish the memories you’re making for them and I’m 100% pinching your ideas btw 😆

Mountainviewse · 09/02/2024 17:25

Sounds like some good plans.

@Echobelly IKEA 🥰 I wished mine would suggest a trip there.. sorry to hear about your job situation, seems to be a lots of this going on! Hope it works out Ok.

Echobelly · 09/02/2024 18:20

Thanks, it's not too bad ' there's a decent chance I'll land an internal role at least and I'm much better off than last time I was made redundant when I had two small kids and was on a slightly different career track where I had many fewer jobs I could apply for
