Have you ever been greatly saddened by the passing of a celebrity/well known person?

As sad as it is with anyone passing away I can’t recall many celebrity deaths ever having any lasting impact on me, except for two.

For me, it was the death of Terry Wogan.

I suppose it was mainly because I grew up with him as a constant in the background, mum always had him playing and when I became an adult I automatically carried that on. He had me in stitches and he had the most perfect voice and personality for radio.

I bawled my eyes out when he passed away and I still miss his shows.

As I say, I really don’t get sentimental over such things but the passing of Terry Wogan and my first love, George Michael really did hit me hard when they went.

Queen Elizabeth II really made me feel like something had changed in the world. Obviously didn't really know the real person but knowing so many people had lived and died never knowing a different Monarch and then it all changed in an instant.

Steve Irwin is another, I feel the world isn't quite the same without him.

Sycamore Gap Tree - another that makes me feel something changed in the world and displayed the absolute nastiness some people carry round with them.

Not a death, but Michael Schumacher’s devastating brain injury after that skiing accident. I try not to think about it now, because there’s no closure for his family, and it grieves me that he was reduced to that.

Freddie Mercury

I can remember getting ready for work on the day the radio announcement was made and I listened avidly as I drove round .
He was only 45 Sad
I watched an interview where he was asked what are you going to do when you're 65 and he said something like "Oh my dear , I;ll be dead^
He knew he wouldn;'t make old bones

His voice was unique there will never be a rival .
(And I just spent an hour looking at YouTube videos )

Robin Williams and Matthew Perry.

Absolutely agree about these two

I mentioned Steve Irwin earlier in the thread, I think what made me so sad was the death of such a young, interesting, interested, person who would have been an amazing advocate for our planet, I know I will feel a sense of loss when david Attenbough goes but not so sad, He has lived an amazing, long and wonderful life, his legacy will be immense and deserved, I think Steve Irwin would have filled those boots to perfection.

The thing that I remember about Steve Irwin's death was my shock at my mother's response. "Serves him right- he should have left that ray alone"

Made me see her in a new light!

Wow @CurlewKate

Freddie made me sad too, that he died so close to advances in HIV/Aids care gets to me whenever I think of him.

Freddie made me sad too, that he died so close to advances in HIV/Aids care gets to me whenever I think of him.

I don't know how advanced the treatment for HIV was back in 1991 , and it would deoend on how long he was carrying the virus .
He was very private .
The newspaper announcement was the day before his death so he kept it hidden right to the end . Though looking back at his last videoes you can see how ill and frail he was.
