Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

It is natural to feel unnerved when the whole country seems to be falling apart in all sorts of ways, including the Royal Family.

I think this is at the heart of peoples’ unsettledness.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 06/02/2024 17:06

No. Not surprisingly really considering recent events. Not blaming anyone though.

Gillypie23 · 06/02/2024 17:06

No doesn't affect us in anyway. He's getting first class treatment. Not waiting months om NHS like most.

I dislike the concept of monarchy so I’m unbothered if it’s destabilised by a second death in two years along with the prospect of Workshy Willy being the top dog as opposed to his famously assiduous father.

However, the death of a husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, employer is very sad. He is all those things and
the relevant people, the ones who know him best, will be very distressed if he loses his life and I’ll feel bad for them. It’s unsettling for them, I agree.

All this assumes that he won’t trounce the cancer. He might! He’s an athletic non-smoker with access to the best of everything. With luck, he will be ok.

I don’t feel unsettled by it and do feel we aren’t like to have King Charles for long.

The likelihood of it being bladder cancer is quite high given it was likely found during the prostate surgery. However, if it really is early on then the prognosis is very good. Given historically we don’t tend to be given much information, especially regarding severity, by the royal family it’s hard to know if Charles is following this or whether he is being honest.

I was thinking bladder cancer too

I feel sorry for anyone with cancer who has long waits on the NHS and money worries.

This.

Tinkerbyebye · 06/02/2024 17:12

No

they got it really early so he should be ok

as to Harry, who cares, no doubt it will all appear in a new book

Jovacknockowitch · 06/02/2024 17:13

No

I feel un-nerved by Putin.
I feel un-nerved by the Middle East.
I feel un-nerved by climate change.
I feel sad for any man and family with a cancer diagnosis.

Worried234 · 06/02/2024 17:16

Not in the slightest.

No. You need another hobby.

That’s a bit rude

Erm….no?

He had an operation on his prostate last week and this week they announced cancer. It’s almost certainly prostate cancer which almost all men his age have.

I imagine he will be fully recovered, having received the very best of healthcare, by the summer.
Do you not think these people have access to regular, comprehensive screening programmes?

It has been stated by the Palace that it is not prostate cancer.

moofolk · 06/02/2024 17:25

No.

I feel unnerved that people care more about one obscenely wealthy man than they do about thirty thousand people killed in Gaza.

emmylousings · 06/02/2024 17:26

Couldn't care less. Would be worried about anyone who did.

Idontgiveashitanymore · 06/02/2024 17:26

no. Not interested at all .

Kdtym10 · 06/02/2024 17:27

Tbh I had high hopes for Charles, he has an amazing view on the world. I was hoping he was going to bring some of this to his reign but it seems rather lacking so far.

But I hope he has many more years to bring this into society.

I think it’s now clear what kind of person Harry is, following serial betrayals of his family. At least that American witch won’t be with him. My thoughts are with the King. I don’t care about Harry - he has burned his bridges. I doubt the other royals will give him the time of day anyway to be honest.

Blimey. Bit harsh. Shock

WhatHoJeeves · 06/02/2024 17:31

I actually love living in a country with a monarchy. I think it adds value to living here. There are Royals that I like as individuals, including Charles, and others that I don't, but I still value the institution. I enjoy the history, the continuity, the ceremony of it all. I can also feel sympathy and concern for the king whilst simultaneously holding other concerns; it isn't an either/or situation.

Just thought I'd add a bit of balance to the overwhelmingly anti-monarchy leaning of the thread. It was getting tedious.

I certainly feel unnerved at the thought that another mega-millions funeral and coronation could be on the horizon.

I’ve had enough of them all now.

Yep. After the obscene public money spent on Platty Joobs, Her Majesty's state funeral, and the coronation, all practically within one year, perish the thought that we might be doing most of that AGAIN, while many of his subjects (who "pledged allegiance" to him) are struggling to make ends meet. I didn't pledge anything: my TV was off on all those occasions.

He has access to the best healthcare in the world that money can buy. And I wonder what we are being distracted from?

Incidentally, someone I know who queued for hours to file past the Queen's coffin had something confiscated by security. What was that? Wait for it... hand sanitiser! 😂😂😂 The irony of this coming moments after the state-sponsored campaign of "hands face space".

Exactly. Why bring this up on this thread? Confused

MCOut · 06/02/2024 17:37

No and if you need these people to feel stable, you have a bit of a problem.

The Harry bashing is predictable, though. God forbid you go and see your sick parent.

HardcoreLadyType · 06/02/2024 17:38

DRS1970 · 06/02/2024 12:06

I really don't understand all the fuss to be honest. It is sad he has got cancer, it is sad when anyone gets a cancer. But beyond that I am not seeing why there is all the fuss about it.

Exactly this. If my hairdresser told me her mum had cancer I would feel about as sad as I feel about the King having cancer. It’s sad. It would be particularly sad for my hairdresser and her family. But not really for me, except in the John Donne “no man is an island” way.
