Fighting fire with SM

Controversial probably but see all these wee arseholes and gangster wannabes that commit crimes and post on social media because they know they're untouchable, shouldn't there be a punishment to fit the crime?

Bullies/racists/vandals? Can't we use SM to shame them? Not suggesting a kangaroo court and vigilante justice but wouldn't it be a brilliant deterrent to bring back a version of the stocks and let them suffer the humiliation of SM as they are absolutely humiliated in public

No suggesting anything illegal but if someone has been identified and been convicted by due process etc I'm pretty sure a public humiliation will be more effective than sending them to an overcrowded prison with a 9 month waiting list for rehab and early access to more criminal activity

Bump as I meant to post I'm AIBU

local police forces DO ALREADY post mugshots when convicted

dancingwithwolv3s · 05/02/2024 20:15

And don't the wee arseholes see this a badge of honour? Doing time for a minor crime gives them status? Sorry I don't really get your point

Jesus, is that really the society you want to live in? A bear pit where we all throw stones at each other? Why not bring back public hanging while you're at it?

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 05/02/2024 20:18

If they've already been convicted then they will be inside unable to see any social media!!!

dancingwithwolv3s · 05/02/2024 20:22

I'm really not suggesting public hanging or flogging. I am merely suggesting that using SM against wee tossers is a short/sharp punishment that they'd understand

My thought was that using SM to humiliate bullies/racists/wee fannies would be a deterrent. Im not about throwing anyone into a bear pit

Well have a go then? See what happens

You'll likely make yourself a target rather than 'shame' them

Is that ok. Posting mugshots after conviction. What's the point of that?

What do you mean by a wee fanny? I'm intrigued!

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 05/02/2024 20:29

To show the public they have been convicted

Same way 24 hours in police custody do

Wow are you threatening me? 🙄

Clover I'm also intrigued that you're more concerned about my definition of a 'wee fanny' it's pretty self explanatory.

custardlover · 05/02/2024 20:40

If you post anything before a conviction you could potentially be committing a crime too - defamation.

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 05/02/2024 20:43

How, on EARTH, am I threatening you?

I think drink has been taken

So how are you going to shame them via SM if they see it as a badge of honour? And what are you hoping will happen if not attempts at vigilante justice?

Defamation is not a crime..

dancingwithwolv3s · 05/02/2024 20:48

Lol thanks for asking? I'd still put them in stocks and they'd be shamed on social media. Hit them where it hurts

OP posts:
custardlover · 05/02/2024 20:50

I'm pretty sure it is - you can be sued for libel for publishing defamatory comments, no?

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 05/02/2024 20:52

Where are these stocks you are going to put them in?

So you yourself are travelling to these peoples homes, restraining them and taking them to your 'stocks'....yourself.... to take a photo to then put on SM?

No it isn't - I've never heard the term before.

Are you Scottish? I've never heard the expression before.

You are really coming across as very antagonistic here. Really not sure what you are trying to gain.
