Fighting fire with SM

Controversial probably but see all these wee arseholes and gangster wannabes that commit crimes and post on social media because they know they're untouchable, shouldn't there be a punishment to fit the crime?

Bullies/racists/vandals? Can't we use SM to shame them? Not suggesting a kangaroo court and vigilante justice but wouldn't it be a brilliant deterrent to bring back a version of the stocks and let them suffer the humiliation of SM as they are absolutely humiliated in public

No suggesting anything illegal but if someone has been identified and been convicted by due process etc I'm pretty sure a public humiliation will be more effective than sending them to an overcrowded prison with a 9 month waiting list for rehab and early access to more criminal activity

I suspect very quickly it would be seen as a badge of honour in some places.

How could being publicly shamed be a badge of honour

I'm so sorry for this post.
Obviously I'm wrong and wee arseholes should be allowed to roam free. Thank fuck I don't have to live anywhere near them

Wee fanny is a Scottish term, for instance wannabe wee gangster acting out to impress teen girls.... Could be termed.. As a wee fanny. Basically a nobody.

blacksax · 05/02/2024 23:30

Thanks @Northernsouloldies
So basically a lad in a hoodie pretending to be hard then. 😂

That's about the size of it.. Yes.

Boomboom22 · 05/02/2024 23:42

It would give them status to have middle aged women shame them online.

Boomboom22 · 05/02/2024 23:43

Just like being promiscuous and violent gives them status when they can't get it through legitimate means. It wouldn't help.

So who decides what is warranted to be put on social media for? Op how would you feel of someone related to you was put on there?

Sure it is easy to list things and say 'yeah they did this so they need to go on' which is all very good if you are against what they did

But what if it is something you don't think is bad and they end up on there or even they were accused falsely who is judge and jury and decides

The idea doesn't make any sense

Jings I'm honestly done with this. I made my point and I'm sticking with it. Argue amongst yourselves 🙄

My local police force regularly post on their FB about wanted people, and convictions.
Sadly, a lot of people who are wanted or have been convicted are also vulnerable. There was a post about a wanted lady who also happened to be trafficked and vulnerable. The comments about her, and especially her appearance, were disgusting.
I have also seen posts about convicted people who are known in the community to have MH/ND issues.

I actually agree with you, after a fashion. There are ten year olds in balaclavas/face masks here attacking fully grown men and spitting in the faces of mothers who are out with their small babies in prams, because they've challenged these kids about their behaviour. The actual teenagers in gangs are even worse. I don’t know what needs to happen but something does.

Northernsouloldies · 06/02/2024 01:14

I have to laugh when these types of kids all want to be rappers and they are misunderstood and all do the pseudo gangster shit.. None of them ever want to be a sparky or a plumber.

So these people possibly record their crimes and put them on Tiktok then are going to frightened into submission and being good little boys and girls because these big bad adults put them on social media?

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 06/02/2024 07:27

😂

notknowledgeable · 06/02/2024 07:33

well, anyone with half a brain would simply not look at it, the way you jump over post from posters you know are abusive of MN, or just turn the SM off, so it would not be a punishment in any sense. Meanwhile on social media, ignored by the targets, people are whipping each other up into a frenzy - and then what? You are encouraging and reinforcing some very nasty behaviour in others.

Many people would not be remotely concerned about social media at all - the fact that it would bother you says a lot more about you, than anyone else, and I suspect you are a minority

lululimepants · 10/03/2024 22:28

I think embarrassing these idiots is a good idea. I'm all for public shaming. You live by the sword you die by the sword is totally relevant here.
