Anyone around to keep me company whilst I wait for 111 to call back?

Woke about midnight after taking forever to get to sleep with searing head/ear pain and feeling like I was made of lava I was that warm but when I got up to get something to drink I felt very shivery and have since thrown up several times.

I've called 111 because well there's not much else you can do at 1am on a Sunday and am now waiting for a call back but inevitably I'm starting to feel tired. It's been about 1hr half since I called and they said I'd get a callback within two hours (I'm sceptical) so I could do with some company whilst I wait please if anyone's about?

Here to help

Can you keep water down?

thaegumathteth · 04/02/2024 02:48

How's the shivering now?

WaitingForACallback · 04/02/2024 02:49

coxesorangepippin

Thanks for the company. I've kept a bit of water down but am only taking small sips as it's making me feel more nauseous.

How's the shivering now?

Shivering is on going despite being wrapped in a fluffy dressing gown and under a blanket not as bad as before but still noticable but equally my skin still feels like it's on fire if that makes any sense at all.

I don't want to freak you out because obviously being shivery with a temp can be normal BUT when I had sepsis I had uncontrollable shivering with a fever as a main symptom. And I really do mean shivering like kept dropping my phone shaking.

Hopefully it's 'just' a bug. Do keep your fluids up can you put something on TV and your phone on loud?

Hopefully nothing as serious as that but it's concerning me that I feel so cold but also so hot at the same time!

Don't really want to rink putting the TV on and waking up DH and DS but phone is on loud just in case i fall asleep although I'm unlikely to stay asleep long as the pain in my head/ear is definitely worse when I'm lying down.

Also waiting on 111 to call back about DP, made us a cuppa to keep us going but ran out of normal sugar so had to use brown baking sugar instead. I suspect a long night ahead for us both Flowers

Sorry to hear you're also awaiting a call back, hope DP is ok, how long have you been waiting?

I'm not sure if I should be calling them back now as it's been over 2 hours although my symptoms haven't worsened, they've also not improved though, so I'm guessing there's not much point to another call?

So sorry you're not feeling well, did you have this before you went to bed and have you managed to take anything for the pain?

coxesorangepippin · 04/02/2024 03:10

I'd ring back again

Mammma91 · 04/02/2024 03:12

How is the sickness OP? Have you taken your temperature? I’d keep an eye on it every hour or so incase it rises, I hope you’re ok!

thaegumathteth · 04/02/2024 03:12

Have you taken a painkiller? Does it feel like an ear infection?

I've had a bug for about a week (sinus pain, cough sore ears etc) but the searing head pain, vomiting, feeling hot and yet shaking are all new symptoms since I went to bed, albeit I did go to bed with the very bad headache.

Not managed to keep any pain medication down as I've thrown it back up again almost immediately. Sad I don't really want to keep trying to take anything if it's just going to make me vomit. 🤢

No idea what an ear infection feels like, I don't think I've ever had one.

Can't find the thermometer either so not a clue what my actual temperature is.

I'm going to call back as it's now been over 2 hours.

Hope you're okay op let us know what 111 say. I haven't been to sleep yet as the last week or so my insomnia has been so bad. Although I've always suffered since I was a child. Try not to over heat yourself try and stay cool even when shivering.
Im glad that people are at home with you

StandardLFinegan · 04/02/2024 03:29

Sorry you are feeling so ill op.

You’ve probably already thought of this but are there any hospitals with walk in centres attached near you? If there are I would be waking up your dh and asking him to take you in. Ear pain is awful so you have my sympathy. I am not an HCP but you may have secondary infection and as others have said, sensible to eliminate sepsis.

Sorry to hear your insomnia is so rough at the moment.

I've called back and basically been told we're experiencing lots of calls, someone will get in touch etc but no time given so as I suspected the 2 hour window was pointless.

Trouble is I can't go to OOH without being directed by 111 and I really don't want to sit with a pounding headache/being sick in A&E. It's rough enough sitting on the sofa in the pitch black in just a dressing gown. Sad

We have an OOH but you can't just turn up you need to be sent there by 111

The walk in urgent treatment center nearby is only open 7-7.

Appreciate all the messages. ❤️ I'm trying desperately not to wake DH if avoidable but if I get told to go he will definitely drive me there albeit we will have to take DS with us but not much point waking him until they've said I should go anywhere.

Have you taken some paracetamol for your temperature? It's common to feel cold when you her a really high temperature. Take the dressing gown off.

I can't keep the paracetamol down every time I've tried taking it I've thrown it back up again.

The dressing gown is currently on but open and I'm both too cold without it and too hot with it on but fastened. It's currently the best compromise I can make.

Bless you op. I really hope you feel better soon and hear back from 111 quickly.
In the meantime all you can do is try and get some sleep or put the tv on low and try and focus on that. I hope you don't vomit any more. Stay hydrated 💐☕️

Trying to drink little and often as it's making me feel so sick when I am drinking but appreciate u need to keep drinking or I'll probably feel worse.

Still no response over 3 hours later. I'm beginning to think I should have just gone straight to A&E at this point.

If you've got kids could you take some Calpol instead. It mushy stay down better. 20ml of 6+ is the adult dose.
