Love the dark mornings dreading lighter mornings

Is there anyone weird like me that loves fhe dark mornings and ideally dark at 7 but prefers summer? I am dreading it getting dark late and lighter early. But prefer the warner weather. I see in certain places like Australia it gets dark af 7 in the summer snd actually like that. I've got back out curtains,, and hate sunlight coming in but enjoy beaches, being our in the summer. I have sensory issues to lights, touch and certain soundd anyway.

I love the dark mornings and evenings. I’m dreading it getting hotter and staying lighter longer.

Same

I like the dark mornings too - I'm at the bus stop between 6.20 and 6.30, and it's currently still dark then. (Work in central London, and don't drive to work).

I love the peace and quiet the darkness brings. Summers are too noisy for me and usually ruined by neighbours wielding power tools.

This is it isn't it? If you can potter around deadheading roses and relaxing, why wouldn't you love it?

But for some of us, light evenings and even vaguely warm weather means everyone outside all the time and that suffocating feeling begins its cycle

Yes, and I still prefer them. I love getting all the way into the office and it still be just getting light. It's just more interesting than it all being daylight and never seeing sunrise.

I would have daylight 8-7 year round as my ideal

More dark than light? For ever? Why so early in the evening?

More suffocating than being stuck in one room under a blanket for months on end?

So much of this depends on your living situation.
All the houses in our road are detached and all the neighbours are quiet. We get the occasional lawnmower sound, but that's it. No shouting or loud music.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 04/02/2024 16:21

I like the light evenings but am happy for it to stay dark til 7 in the morning as it's easier to sleep .

RampantIvy · 04/02/2024 16:23

At my age I find I don't tend to sleep much beyond 6 am these days, even at weekends. I prefer to get up when it is light.

I find it more relaxing. It makes me tense it being light so late.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 04/02/2024 16:24

Oh, I love the light mornings. It just makes me feel so much more positive when you open the curtains and see a blue sky you think ' today is going to be a good day'. Lighter evenings make me want to spend more time outside, which in turn really lifts my mood. The dark winter feels like I'm just surviving the light spring, and summer feels like living.

Shut your curtains?

Black out blinds, much easier than willing the world to change 😄

DinnaeFashYersel · 04/02/2024 16:29

I'm the opposite

Each morning as it gets lighter it gets easier to get up and I feel better.

My happy time is Scottish 'summer' when we get around 18 hours of daylight.

cardibach · 04/02/2024 16:29

Yes. Everyone bemoaning birdsong and light but not doing anything to block them out. It’s weird.

I still know it's light outside! I'm not claiming it's logical. It's just how I feel. It being light after about 7 feels odd and unnatural to me and I don't like it.

Delatron · 04/02/2024 16:36

Yes I can’t change the fact that it’s horrific to wake up in the dark - those gradual sunlight alarm lamps don’t work for me. But you can use ear plugs/sleep mask/ blackout blinds to stop light and noise. I can’t make it sunny and light outside at 7.30am in mid winter.

EmpressSoleil · 04/02/2024 16:42

I bought lovely lights for my garden before realising that when it's hot enough to sit out in the evening, it doesn't get dark early enough! Total waste.

I spent some time in Tokyo where it would be dark by 7ish in the summer. Absolutely loved it. It really helped to take the heat from the day before bed. It was also nice walking round seeing everything lit up.

I'm in London and the heat just builds with no escape as it's still light when I go to sleep. Which I only manage due to blackout curtains and air con!

I can deal with light mornings due to said blackout curtains but loathe light evenings.

dudsville · 04/02/2024 16:44

I have lived for short periods both further north and further south, and prefer further south.

So you just wake up and it doesn’t matter how dark your room is, and light mornings, feel unnatural to you? Do you come from somewhere outside the Uk?

No, always lived in the UK! I'm not saying it is unnatural, it just unnerves me because it feels wrong. Lots of entirely natural things make different people feel a bit odd.

Yes, I prefer getting up in the dark. It's what feels "right" to me. Like sunrise is something that's supposed to happen after my day has begun. I don't like being woken by sunlight. It annoys me.

Janetime · 04/02/2024 17:19

Ok..

mydogisthebest · 04/02/2024 17:35

I hate dark mornings and dark evenings. I could absolutely live with it being light 24 hours.

I spent 3 weeks in Sweden a few years ago and loved that it never got dark.

Just find the dark very depressing
