We have two

WEEK A FAM - (50/50 custody split)

OG FAM - (slang for original gangsters, group chat with just my ex and kids, set up by the teens obviously 🤦‍♀️)

OP posts:
AndThatWasNY · 02/02/2024 23:09

When DS3 got his mobile phone aged 11 on Christmas day he set up 'everyone' a funfilled family chat with all his grandparents. Including his step granny.
DHs parents hadn't spoken for 25 years since grandad run off with Granny's best friend (step granny).
Let's just say "everyone* becomes "no one" very quickly 😂

MoreHairyThanScary · 02/02/2024 23:14

#fam for my kids, mum sis and nieces nephews etc
#myfam for dh and dc

MoreHairyThanScary · 02/02/2024 23:15

And I forgot # grownups for my mum,me and dsis's

Sgtmajormummy · 02/02/2024 23:36

Our surname starts with an A so our family group is called The A….Family with a picture of the TV Addams Family.
Of course I’m Morticia, daaaahling.

Onthegrid · 03/02/2024 00:05

DH, me and our 2 adult D.C., a silly phrase about food that is a family joke. We post every day, mainly silly photos or just updates as we live a long way apart
DH me our eldest and partner, her favourite Disney ride/movie
My whole family, the name of the village we came from and “- hello calling home” daily messages on here too.
We also have some sub groups like Just Girls which is me, my sister our mum and sister in law, not our daughters though
DH and his family just use The Surname with an s on the end but they have no imagination, they also hardly ever post.

NewName24 · 03/02/2024 00:39

We have several.
Those in da house - for those that currently live here
Originals - for those who lived here as the dc were growing up (eg all of us but not partners)
The Whole Lot - includes partners
Then we have wider family ones using names of the families, for siblings and cousins on both sides
Then each of dc has one just with us under various titles like "Favourite child and the rents"
I'm fairly confident the dc also have them just for them, then them and partners, then them and cousins, etc.

SelkieSeal · 02/02/2024 21:46

The one with my siblings is "Sybil-ings".

My 73 year old mother won't use WhatsApp because Big Data. She insists on using Telegram instead, and won't allow herself to be added to any group chats because Reasons. I won't use Telegram because I'm neither a drug dealer nor paranoid loon so I have to email her instead. She also keeps notifications turned off on her phone because she thinks it's "very intrusive" for it to ping whenever it wants to. It doesn't make for easy communication. And no, she isn't senile, she's always been like this.

I agree with her about the notifications

Tatumm · 02/02/2024 21:33

We don’t have one. What do you talk about?

Is this a real question?

Lookingtodate · 03/02/2024 01:13

mums name as she is not tech savvy and will only see if we show her and its only used if we are with her eg we were on holiday and she was sat on the pier with a cone and took a pic, she bought herself a ready stupid looking oodie, for DB and 2DC to see. 1 works overseas and keeps them in the loop

anicecuppateaandayummyshortbreadbiscuit · 03/02/2024 15:46

We used to have 'Family' until DH passed away. We kept that one as didn't want to lose it but started the 'Home' one for me, ds & dd. We just send daily chit chat from work or when we're out (separately). I need to know where they are all the time as I panic that I'll lose them suddenly too! 😥We also have 'Kitkat' for all of our kitty cat pics. 😸💝

Taytocrisps · 03/02/2024 16:08

Surname19 'cos there are 19 of us (my Dad, my brothers and sisters, SIL, BIL and nieces and nephews. Not very imaginative.

For the previous poster who asked, we use it for general chat and sharing family news. We wish each other a happy birthday on the relevant day. Family members share one or two photos if they're on holidays etc. At Christmas we post our wishlists. And sometimes we embarrass DNieces and DNephews by posting cute baby photos Grin. Occasinonally we post old news articles or photos about the area whwre we grew up. It's used enough that we maintain friendly contact but not so much that it's intrusive.

Only issue is that Dad keeps accidentally blocking it, so he misses out on things we thought he knew.

Duckingella · 03/02/2024 16:20

DeepFriedKermit · 03/02/2024 16:53

Family Antics

kittylion2 · 03/02/2024 17:54

Surname with z on the end - like Simpsonz (don't know why).

IsThisNameTaken · 03/02/2024 18:06

'Family' (me, DH, DD and DS) and 'Family without DS' (set up by DD because she thinks she's funny)

Coldupnorth7 · 03/02/2024 18:11

Blimey, there's a whole new level of family interaction I've no clue about. Same as with Zoom during covid...

I have a weekly call with my mum and pop in on the inlaws sometimes and they're not that keen on that level of closeness.

SockQueen · 03/02/2024 18:25

(Maiden name, which begins with F) Family Fun for my parents, DH, DSis and BiL. (Married name) Family for DH's family. Not very original.

Gratedpotato · 03/02/2024 19:06

Siblings group - 7 Owls in a Trenchcoat
Siblings, everone's partners and our parents- Hoard of Geese
One side of our extended family- Spawn of (long dead great grandmothers name)

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 03/02/2024 19:14

We have one that's our surname, with me, my mum and my teens in. The name was originally a mash up of all our surnames, then DC and I changed ours by deedpoll so it actually is our name now.

DC and I have one called "fam-a-lam-a-ding-dong"

We've got one on messenger called "Grandad" where my mum keeps my brothers and I up to date on news about Grandad.

My Dad made one last week called "us" with him, my younger brother and me. It was for a specific purpose and I suspect we won't use our again.

And we've got one on messenger which is my brothers and me, it doesn't have a name and we rarely use it.

WessexWanderer · 03/02/2024 19:25

Ours is called Family Virtual Meeting. I set it up at the start of Covid for me, my children, my parents and my brother. During lockdowns we used it for video chats or for anything we might usually have said at family get-togethers and couldn't.

Now it mostly gets used for arranging family meals, Christmas, birthdays etc. Or for sharing news such as exam results or anything that involves the whole family.

NotHooray · 03/02/2024 19:33

We are EuroHuns as we are off on a European holiday all together this summer. It used to be Hundamental family business (the use of hun is very much tongue in cheek!!)

LadyWithLapdog · 03/02/2024 19:35

Family name, accidentally misspelled by a DC who set it up.

MrsDilligaf · 03/02/2024 19:57

There are a few, but my favourite is the one that is just my Aunt, Cousin and I which is named "The Slipper" because we were all threatened with the slipper for being the naughty ones.
