Houmous

BingoMarieHeeler · 01/02/2024 21:40

Mainly making hummus and salad dressings

heldinadream · 01/02/2024 21:41

Had it this evening on rice and veg. Delicious.
You can mix it with honey for on toast. Or plain on toast with a bit of salt. I love it.

enjoyingscience · 01/02/2024 21:41

I make dips with it usually - yoghurt/garlic/tahini/lemon juice/parsley. Properly nice.

AgnesNaismith · 01/02/2024 21:42

Drizzle on salad, halloumi or warm chicken. I love mixing with lime juice, chili flakes, a little water and oil for a salad dressing.

Can also go on top of sweet potato wedges and sprinkle sumac on top for more flavour.

Oooo thanks for the responses. Is it quite sweet or savoury? Could I eat it from the jar?

Tahini and sliced banana on toast. Yum.

DillDanding · 01/02/2024 21:43

Houmous. Or a salad dressing.

YireosDodeAver · 01/02/2024 21:44

I wouldn't eat it neat myself. It's a brilliant ingredient for balancing sharp tastes like lemon and garlic. I mainly use it for making houmous and banaganoush.

It can also replace eggs in some baking recipes.

heldinadream · 01/02/2024 21:44

Like most nuts and seeds it can be sweet or savory. Think about almonds - you can chuck them in salads and stir frys or make cakes with them. Tahini is ground up sesame seeds.

Whu · 01/02/2024 21:45

Drizzled over roasted veg. Yum!

geoger · 01/02/2024 21:45

You can make a delicious dip by blending it with lemon, garlic and a bit of water - tastes so good. You can make houmous too. It tastes amazing with falafel and is also really good in sweet dishes. Swirl through chocolate brownie mix before cooking. My fave way to eat it is to make a traditional Greek pastry called tahinopittes-use Georgina Hayden’s recipeTahinopittes

Hummus. Salad dressing. A marinade with pomegranate molasses for chicken. Ice cream.

Mandie74 · 01/02/2024 21:51

Stirred through Greek yoghurt along with a spoonful of honey.
Mixed up with lemon, garlic and fresh herbs and drizzled over any roasted veg, but esp aubergine.

ohthehokey · 01/02/2024 22:01

Houmous and salad dressings

KindleGirlie · 01/02/2024 22:02

Eat directly with a spoon 😂

SameSameButDeliverance · 01/02/2024 22:04

All the above! I always have some in the house. But I never dip sweet dill pickles in to it, oh no, not me…

Lemoonada · 01/02/2024 22:05

Honestly you can use it with everything. High quality tahini can be salty or savoury. Lemon, tahini, garlic, salt, cumin (phenomenal dressing)
Tahini and maple syrup on toast 🤤

Sorry forgot to add make sure you get the Turkish tahini that comes in a glass jar!

Making hummus and salad dressings. Mine was not a success. Nobody liked it. No more tahini for me.

tunainatin · 01/02/2024 22:24

Take approx 1 cup tahini, squeeze in juice of 1 lemon and some salt. Whisk and add water a little at a time. At some point you'll think 'oh no it's curdled' but keep going and keep adding water until you have a lovely smooth dip. Delicious and lighter that hummous.

myphoneisbroken · 01/02/2024 22:24

Tahini on toast with avocado, salt and a squeeze of lemon/lime

Tahini brownies are also delish.
