In an omelette. In baking.

I recently made a simply Ella butter bean tahini dish. Was lush!! Like posh beans on toast.

Chilli oil tahini noodles

I use it like mayonaise, basically.

Lovely with honey, too (mayo is not)

Oooo thanks for the responses. Is it quite sweet or savoury? Could I eat it from the jar?

I wouldn't say so. tangier version of nut butter.. but maybe some like that

It's great for hummus, healthy desserts, dressings, and similar to use as peanut butter but sharper.

Throw it out the minute it gets to the use by date even if still sealed.. it goes rancid really easily and I've found that out the hard way!

Where you get your tahini makes a lot of difference to how it tastes.

Jar stocked in Tesco - tiny and tastes bitter, might already be rancid
Jar from Waitrose - bigger, tastes much nicer, makes nice houmous
Jar from a world food shop - a struggle to stop yourself just eating the whole thing neat

I have fancied tahini cookies for ages but adding tahini to cookie recipes has always turned out weird. Finally realised that the tahini should replace the butter. This is what I did at the weekend and they are wonderful.

125g tahini
125g sugar
200g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp cocoa
Enough water to make a soft dough
Sesame seeds to sprinkle on top

160C for 12 mins
Made 10 thick cookies

I always buy it from the international supermarket near me as it's got a lot of good ethnic brands so I agree completely, but have found it a lot more sensitive to tasting 'off' than any other nut or seed butter. I'm not precious about use by dates usually, but I'm militant for tahini 😅
