Idea for a healthy thing for February

andwhy · 01/02/2024 14:30

I need some inspiration please, I'm trying to get healthy this year, but I want to take things really slowly (so that I don't give up!) In January I committed to walking half an hour everyday, and I succeeded! I'm going to keep this up, but I'd like to add another healthy but achievable thing for February. Any ideas?? Thank you

Mine are -
drink a pint of water in the morning
eat an apple and an orange every day
walk 10,000 steps a day

Funkyslippers · 01/02/2024 14:37

5 portions of fruit/veg a day, 10 mins of yoga a day, writing a gratitude journal every day, meditation etc

Alloveragain3 · 01/02/2024 14:40

Pint of water and lemon or lime every morning

Whatever you'd normally have as "treat" or unnecessary foods, have half

Gratitude journal

Do something brain stimulating each day e.g. sodoku or Wordle

Hmm, thank you. Maybe the piece of fruit thing might be a good idea. I'd like to say I will do the 5 fruit and veg, but I think I'd fail and I'm really trying to add one thing a month that I can actually do!

Brain thing a good idea too (I might keep that in mind for later in the year once I've started to sort my body out)

Increase your fibre intake, most of us don’t have enough.

Get some fresh air each day.

Arrange to see a friend once a week it once a month.

Do you drink fizzy drinks such as coke, if so get rid of those?

andwhy · 01/02/2024 16:17

Thanks for those, I'm getting the fresh air once a day with my 30 min walk, and whilst the others are definitely healthy ideas I'm trying to do something daily that's really easy to know if I've succeeded (or failed)

@Alloveragain3 Do have a look into the lemon or limes in your water, I've read somewhere it's bad for your enamel.

NewYear24 · 01/02/2024 16:22

Do you have any bad nutritional habits, ditching one of those would be easy to see if you’ve succeeded?

Alloveragain3 · 01/02/2024 16:31

Oh no, but it makes the water so much more palatable!
Sometimes I put cucumber in the water, so I guess that's more tooth friendly.

Traumdeuter · 01/02/2024 16:33

Loving the apple and orange a day thing - going to add that to my bullet journal for February.

Itisnearlyspring · 01/02/2024 16:33

Exercise snacking - do 10 squats or a wall sit everytime you go in the kitchen etc.

PaminaMozart · 01/02/2024 16:37

Easy, small changes that bring big rewards?

Eat more veg and lean protein and cut out UPF, sugar and refined carbs. Don't drink calories/severely limit alcohol, fruit juice, sodas..

Do a short workout every day - try:
Lucy Wyndham Read
Rebecca Louise
Bowflex 3-minute plank
Heather Robertson
Caroline Girvan (if you are committed...)

Watch a health related YouTube video each day to keep motivated. For instance:
Becky Gillaspy
Michael Moseley
Mark Hyman
Glucose Goddess
Jason Fung

@Alloveragain3 I'm lucky that I'm happy with water, but it HAS to be extremely cold or hot. Can't stand it tepid!

I've never enjoyed cucumber in it, but will try again next time I fancy a flavour.

Do it while you can!!

At 50 my knees just decided to stop working. They refuse to do that kind of thing anymore, they complain loudly at stairs & simply cannot allow me to kneel!

Why is it healthier to wake up earlier?

fightingthedogforadonut · 01/02/2024 16:56

Mine are:

Don't skip breakfast
Go to the gym 3x weekly
Cut down on crisps

What's a wall sit?

CheeseDreamsTonight · 01/02/2024 16:58

Get at least 7 hours of sleep. Game changer.

Anyone.

CantFindTheBeat · 01/02/2024 17:05

I walk already , so I decided to do squats every day in Jan and I did it 🥳🥳🥳

Week 1 - 1 x 8 squats and 1 x 8 wall presses x 3 sets
Week 2 - 15 of each, 3 sets
Week 3 - 25 of each, 3 sets
Week 4 - 30 of each, 3 sets

I'm going to continue. It doesn't take long and it's really toned my legs.

andwhy · 01/02/2024 17:29

Thanks for the ideas, I think I'm going to go with the eat a piece of fruit each day. But I might do the squats in March. Can I just ask, is it doing squats each day that knackers peoples knees (because obviously I don't want to do that)

Maybe no caffeine after certain time or replace your latest coffee/tea with decaf.
