Daily appreciation thread.

Is anyone interested in starting a thread to write down their small appreciations for each day?
I've been suffering with low mood lately and focusing on all the bad things in my life.
Instead of my usual self-pity-get-nothing-done routine, I'm going to be more productive in the hope that by the end of today, I'll have something positive to say no matter how small.

I went to bed really late but i don't feel tired this morning. Hope you have a good day

CowsOpinionsDoMatter · 01/02/2024 07:02

@ymemanresu Same here. Didn't realise I'd racked up one positive thing already so looks like today if off to a good start.
Hope you have a good day too

Oh! I have another one; I got paid today.

I actually made myself a nice salad for lunch today in work instead of buying shit.

Lurkingandlearning · 01/02/2024 07:09

Also a late night worrying I’d oversleep (isn’t that annoying!) and not be prepared for a meeting first thing.

I hope this thread helps perk you up. Thank you for starting it

CowsOpinionsDoMatter · 01/02/2024 07:13

@Fuckthemall I'm home today and planning on making the classic mumsnet "massive salad" for lunch today. Hope you feel as smug with yourself as I will come lunchtime 😁

Have a sedentary job but managed to walk for 1.5 hours last night and feel really amazing! 😁

CowsOpinionsDoMatter · 01/02/2024 07:18

@Lurkingandlearning Isn't it just. The - I need to get to sleep early so I'm going to worry about not getting to sleep early thus making me sleep late and feel shit in the morning routine is a staple of mine. That, and let's lock away all my problems and release them in time to mull over before sleep.

You're very welcome. I hope your meeting goes well.

CowsOpinionsDoMatter · 01/02/2024 07:21

@CrispsnDips Well done you! I bet you felt great after that. I'm going for a 10 minute walk today. Doesn't sound like much but it's an improvement

Part of my get stuff done approach is spending more time off my phone so I'm going to check in later this evening.

Hope everyone reading this has a good day today.

Hope everyone has a good day too.

Today I am again grateful that I don’t work where I used to work. I have Covid and feel grim and in my previous job the boss did not ‘believe’ in Covid or illness of any sort and would basically bully everyone if they needed to take a sick day. It’s such a joy to not have to deal with that.

Psychoticbreak · 01/02/2024 07:36

Great idea for a thread! I have cried most mornings for weeks now and I need to focus on the happier things in my life.
I woke up, I am alive and healthy, have a warm home and a full fridge of food. I need to focus on those types of things instead of ruminating about the bad things.

I’m sat in the sun room with a cup of tea and have just done the crossword in the paper and now having a quick look at MN. DH has gone to work, DS to school. The sun is breaking through and I can hear the birds singing. My window of peace and quiet before I start my day.

Manzana · 01/02/2024 09:14

NY Times connections puzzled out while in a warm bed, and a woodpecker on the bird feeder.

AreThereSomewhereIslands · 01/02/2024 09:27

It's mild, sunny and breezy here this morning so I've been able to hang all our lighter-weight washing out on the line and now have only one load of heavier stuff to tumble. That's saved me 45-50 minutes' electricity and hanging-around time waiting for the tumbler to finish before I head into the town centre for the weekly big shop.

Cheesehound · 01/02/2024 09:30

Lovely thread. Had a fuss with the lovely neighbourhood moggie before dropping my sweet DC off at school. Always brightens my mornings when I see him.

AreThereSomewhereIslands · 01/02/2024 14:45

My washing dried outside before midday aaaaaand...thanks to all the sunshine today, the first crocuses have come through! I found four tiny purple spear-heads poking through the grass and dead leaves. Spring is coming! Smile

JamAtTwo · 01/02/2024 15:32

Sunny spring like day! And grateful for a day off the hamster wheel of life.

Had lots of stuff to do, as per usual. BUT instead of getting busy doing that, I kicked back.

My life is and has been a mess and a failure in so many ways.

But today, so what?

I had a large glass of red wine for lunch, a lovely ready meal and thought - tomorrow is another day, it can all wait, yeah take it easy for once 😃 I may even go to bed and read a book this afternoon.

More bliss.

JamAtTwo · 01/02/2024 15:34

Reminds me of that song Candy Says …

JamAtTwo · 01/02/2024 15:36

By Lou Reed

chorus:

“I'm gonna watch the blue birds fly
over my shoulder
I'm gonna watch them pass me by
maybe when I'm older
What do you think I'd see
if I could walk away from me”

CowsOpinionsDoMatter · 01/02/2024 20:00

Today has been a good day. Im greatful for the sunshine on my walk, and I'm greatful for the hug my son gave me after making chocolate concrete. Piss easy pudding but it's been a while since I 'baked'

I bought some daffodils and am looking forward to them opening in a couple of days, and am looking forward to waking up to a tidy house and some decent coffee tomorrow.

It's been nice reading all the small things people appreciate. It's easy to let the little things pass you by

Saw my good friend for a cuppa and that was lovely.

Appreciated the bright cold day with lots of snow drops on the ground.

Lurkingandlearning · 03/02/2024 06:31

Good morning, how is everyone doing?

I don’t have anything positive to add (been in some pain) but I’m hoping this thread won’t peter out and will continue to comfort and inspire 😀
