Keep me company in A&E please?

iwonderwhatsinside · 31/01/2024 11:24

Had a lot of gynae issues recently and after spending the last 24hrs flooding and passing the biggest clots I've ever seen 111 have sent me down to A&E.

In a lot of pain and feeling rough but obviously not a priority case so settling myself in for a wait and worrying about who's picking the kids up after school etc.

Anyone around to chat and keep me company as a distraction technique because I don't really have anyone in real life to talk to. Please?

Yeah, but you'd be better off without this miserable git keeping you company!

Sat on ex's sofa trying to get a bath mat to spin in his washing machine. Mine's broken. I'm supposed to be sorting out a new one... But failing.

Ex is in a meeting with camera on so can't sneak in and retrieve the washing check it's now spun properly.

DC seems to flood the bathroom every time uses shower so the mats get really soggy. You can step on it and it squirts water across the floor.

I'm trying to make a crochet square for woolly hugs but it's going a bit shit....

And it was parents evening last night and instead of focusing on the lovely reports from English...thinking about the one where the teacher is expecting kid to stop being disabled for his GCSEs. There's always one!

Most teachers were great to be fair.

Poor you! I've been there! Had an ablation last year but still having issues since. Hope you get some support.

I'm home off recovering from another surgery which has some complications and I have vertigo. It's been 19 days of hell, I literally can't move as I have severe vertigo. It's only been in the few days I've been able to use my phone at all. Then yesterday I got a cold (which i was supposed to avoid as I have a prosthetic (what my surgery was to do) in my ear and sneezing or blocking can cause it to dislodge and then this morning i ended up with thrush. I sit staring at walls all day waiting for someone to come home from school or work!

Have you been triaged yet?

OldTinHat · 31/01/2024 12:25

I've just popped to the vending machine and am presenting you with chocolate and crisps. You'll need those. Do you fancy a game of noughts and crosses? Or I Spy? *rummages in bag for pen and paper...

You can be as miserable as you like! I think I would be too if I had to spend an extended period of time in exH's house.

If you work out the secret of kids not soaking bath mats through please share. Positive DD isn't actually showering when she's in there because we end up with SO MUCH water everywhere after

Here's hoping the wait isn't too long. Is there at least an interesting mix of folks to nose at?!

kab89 · 31/01/2024 13:22

I'll keep you company. I've got covid at the moment so feeling pretty grotty. I've just had lunch which was just to get food into me because I couldn't taste anything. I'm trying to think of something I can have which might actually taste of something.

Oh goodness... hopefully the cold doesn't affect your surgery too much??

I've been triaged thankfully. Blood pressure through the roof, had a cannula inserted, bloods taken and a pregnancy test. Waiting on gynaecologist. Genuinely super impressed at how seriously they're taking me even though it's so busy.

Also now a bit worried it's a full day and beg the ex husband to have the kids tonight situation though.

Current favourite is the middle aged man with questionable personal hygiene who keeps singing little tunes to himself.

There's also the sweetest baby girl giving smiles out which is keeping everyone a little bit smiley.

You need textures.

I didn't get my taste back the same. Can taste stuff but some things I used to like are really "meh" now. Trying to find other stuff.

Oh OP I hope you're sorted soon. I was provisionally diagnosed with endo just a couple of weeks back. They thought I had appendicitis so whisked me off ajd found endo very close to the appendix so they removed that along with my healthy appendix (they took it because they were in there and incase the endo grew back). I too was surprised how seriously endo was taken by the gynae who saw me on the ward. I thought it was one of the conditions that women were left to deal with. I've since discovered that a few years ago the scottish government published a report and updated clinical guidelines on how endo is to be diagnosed and treated.

I too have an anecdote about other patients... the surgical admission unit was super busy when I was there and wr were all warned it would be hours to be assessed by the doctors. They had to open the overflow waiting room. One man moaned and complained bitterly that he had been waiting more than an hour. So he thought the best thing to do was to push the emergency call button every 20 minutes so that a team of doctors and nurses would come racing along. There was no emergency he just wanted to complain about waiting. After the 3rd time the Dr snapped that he was being "a bloody fool" and was increasing the time he and others would have to wait because they cannot ignore the emergency call so had to stop what they were doing to attend.

changedusernameforthis1 · 31/01/2024 14:41

Hope you're not waiting too long!

I'm currently waiting for my bathroom floor to be replaced after a flooding incident, funnily enough. Although it was a previous shoddy repair job and not the DC to blame, they're extremely careful when they have a bath or shower now as they're afraid of water suddenly pouring through the kitchen ceiling again 😅

mitogoshi · 31/01/2024 15:08

Hope it's not too long before you are seen, or you already have been.

I'm procrastinating... I need to sort out my kitchen as my mother is visiting at the weekend. It's a tip, mostly dsd's stuff

Aww smiley baby girl sounds lovely. Hope hygiene man doesn't sit too close!!

lalalala2 · 31/01/2024 15:15

The only thing to have solved wet bath mats is a wooden bath board. Weirdly, it works.. pricey mind

OP I hope you get sorted soon and Ex is ok about having his kids

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/01/2024 15:35

I'm glad they are taking this seriously as it's literally draining and exhausting for you
I've never had to go to A&E but I have flooded on furniture and was put on iron tablets
You could ask the gynae if endometrial ablation is an option for you
Mine genuinely was life changing
Sending you a large coffee/ tea and some of your favourite biscuits

kab89 · 31/01/2024 15:45

@BlackeyedSusan Thank you. I didn't lose taste the first time I had covid so this is new to me. I did look at the galaxy ripples in the cupboard, but couldn't justify sacrificing one if I couldn't taste it.

kab89 · 31/01/2024 15:48

@iwonderwhatsinside have you seen gynae yet and been given an update on your treatment plan yet.

Overtheatlantic · 31/01/2024 15:52

Some 💐 for you OP. I hope you get some answers and treatment soon. I know it can be difficult to be in A&E all alone.

iwonderwhatsinside · 31/01/2024 15:56

Thank you guys, nice to know I'm not completely alone. Currently having a bit of a cry because they've basically admitted they don't know what it is but it's "most likely" fibroids however they're not going to check today but will write to my GP to refer me.

The nurse has been so lovely and made me feel like i was going to get at the very least some pain relief and a scan or look of some sort and now I'm that person crying at the hospital. Pathetic really.

weirdoboelady · 31/01/2024 16:00

I would be tempted to throw a Victorian fainting fit at that scenario. How do they know you aren't going to bleed out when you get home? Stress that you are going back to an empty house (or that you have sole charge of kids) and you feel really wobbly. They really should not discharge you (I have NO medical qualifications, hoping a GP or summat will be along to back me up)

(Having said all that, my mum had fibroids and bled through half a dozen sanitary pads and was fine.)

iwonderwhatsinside · 31/01/2024 16:03

@weirdoboelady honestly very tempted to even though I'm naturally a "not make a fuss" type. Honestly don't know how I'll cope with the kids tonight and getting to school tomorrow if I don't at the very least get some decent pain relief.

octoberfarm · 01/02/2024 03:41

Hey OP, just checking in to see how you're doing now and to say that you aren't the least bit pathetic! It's absolutely okay to have a cry when you're feeling poorly and the help you thought you might get wasn't forthcoming. It sounds so frustrating and disappointing.

I really hope they gave you some decent pain meds in the end and that you start feeling better soon Flowers

Tilllly · 01/02/2024 04:48

@iwonderwhatsinside
How awful 😢

How are you now?

iwonderwhatsinside · 01/02/2024 05:51

Ended up being given naproxen and sent home. Slept with the kids in my bed with me because I'm not and wasn't really in a state to be doing proper bed time routine.

Feeling a bit lost and not sure what to do now because it's just as bad as yesterday but obviously don't want to go back to the hospital if there's nothing they'll do.
