I think mine does. Born 1986 and I don't think my name is given to baby girls anymore. It's a one word title of a classic novel.

Yep Gillian peaked in the 60s😊

I know a 15 year old Lisa 😊

I wonder if it's having a renaissance?

johnworf · 29/01/2024 12:28

Beezknees · 29/01/2024 09:47

Lisa has actually seen a rise in popularity in Asian countries I believe, as there is a very famous k-pop singer named Lisa.

How interesting! I'd never have Lisa down as popular name in Asian countries.

my name has been in use since Medieval times but no longer used when I was born. Everyone else was called Carol, or Karen, Susan, Paula, Pauline, Linda, Jacqueline, Sandra or Ann!

Jellycats4life · 29/01/2024 12:33

My name dates me very precisely to the turn of the 80s. If I had to guess I’d say 1978-1983.

It’s never been popular before or since 😄

Rayna37 · 29/01/2024 13:12

Not really, it's never been higher than about 80th and only inside the top 100 from around the mid 40s to mid 60s. My sister's name was most popular in the 1930s and not in the top 100 since the mid 50s. We're late 70s vintage.

This was largely because my Mum was born in the "peak Susan" years and one of so many at school she was determined to give us uncommon (rather than unusual) names.

Morecatsarebetter · 29/01/2024 13:26

My name is Elizabeth. I don’t think it necessarily dates me to any decade x

It's my mum's name, she was born in the 50s.

LindorDoubleChoc · 29/01/2024 13:35

Oh yes, very much so.

bakewellbride · 29/01/2024 13:39

I'm mid thirties and my name is dated. Also friends with Liz, Sarah and Louise - it's all in the same vein.

Elphame · 29/01/2024 13:48

Yes very much so.

I'm actually surprised mine hasn't yet come back as it's a classic name and has royal associations.

biscuitnut · 29/01/2024 13:52

Yes first and second name put me firmly in the 70s and 80s. I am guessing in another 30 years they will be due a revival. I will be back in fashion

PurpleCar02 · 29/01/2024 14:19

My name was very popular in the 80’s but is still used now to a lesser extent. It got me thinking about my DC names though, I think my eldest’s name does not tie them to a decade (backed up by the ONS link shared up thread) but I am certain my youngests name will be when they grow up as it’s very well used!

User14March · 29/01/2024 14:20

Apparently Antonia is one of hardest to date.

TheBirdintheCave · 29/01/2024 14:28

Apparently Antonia is one of hardest to date.

My only association with the name is a girl in my year at school so, to me at least, I think mid-80s 😅

User14March · 29/01/2024 14:30

@TheBirdintheCave one in my year, 60s/70s & a few in my mother’s 40s/50s.

flowerpotmike · 29/01/2024 14:31

yes but the wrong decade! I was born in the 70s and my name seemed really old fashioned.I was the only one with my name in school. In the late 80s it became really popular and I taught loads of them in the 00s. Now no one believes that there weren't many around in my childhood.

User14March · 29/01/2024 14:33

Is ‘hard to date’ the same as timeless classic. What’s a true, timeless classic?

Sarah? Lots in 70s/ Rebecca?

Pigriver · 29/01/2024 14:35

Mine is very 80's. There were 3 of us in my class all through primary and I am close friends with another 3 (moved away from home). One beings my SIL.

Heatherjayne1972 · 29/01/2024 14:37

In the early 70’s Mandy Lisa and Joanne were clearly the popular names.- everyone seemed to be called these or a slight variation of them in my school.
along with a lot of Deans Carl Michaels and Richards

Cornettoninja · 29/01/2024 14:39

Mine definitely does, I was never the only one in a class! Usually one of about three.

TheDogsMother · 29/01/2024 14:44

Mine was very popular in the 60s/early 70s and variations still pop up these days. My name does get a bit of bashing on here but I actually think its due a comeback and would be quite sweet on a little girl. All my adult life I have always been known as a derivative of my name.

sleepismyhobby · 29/01/2024 14:58

My was number 1 in 1974! I didn't even know thy but just goggled it 😂

Dee1224 · 29/01/2024 14:59

My DM named me after the main character in an extremely obscure girl’s adventure book that was her favourite as a child. I have met only two other women with it and one girl, plus one guy. Despite it being an unusual name for both sexes, to this day I get ‘did your mum want a boy?’ and am often addressed as ‘Mr’!

I was also bullied about it at primary by girls who were all called Tracey, Sharon or similar!

However I have always loved my name and dislike very ‘popular’ ones.

ladygindiva · 29/01/2024 15:00

No. It's a historical queen's name that is always mildly popular but never fashionable. I love it.
