Does your name date you to a decade?

I think mine does. Born 1986 and I don't think my name is given to baby girls anymore. It's a one word title of a classic novel.

My first name and middle name together definitely do. I was born in the 80s.

seb1983 · 29/01/2024 07:50

Yes, born in the 60's. Popular name in the Essex area.

SoDoffYourHat · 29/01/2024 07:51

No - it wasn't fashionable at all when I was born.

Pacifybull · 29/01/2024 07:51

Yes, born in the ‘60s.

BouleDeSuif · 29/01/2024 07:52

No- I was bullied at school for having a name nobody had ever heard of and I've only ever met one other with it.

RampantIvy · 29/01/2024 07:52

No. It isn't an English name.

Like @BouleDeSuif I had the micky taken out of my name because it was "different", and when I had DD I gave her a name that people had heard of and that they could spell.

TinkerTiger · 29/01/2024 07:53

My name was in the top 10 most popular names the year u was born (80s)

Happyinarcon · 29/01/2024 07:53

I have a hyphenated first name. I know hyphens have made a comeback, but they are very 70s

MrsJellybee · 29/01/2024 07:53

Definitely. Popular late 70s name though more so in the US than UK.

Ewoklady · 29/01/2024 07:54

No mine is unusual and I don’t think it was ever in fashion 😂😂

Mine is hyphenated born in the 50's. It's religious I think. Very unusual but I like it

Mrsjayy · 29/01/2024 07:55

yes I was born early 70s you couldn't move for "mes" at school! although I have heard of late 30s called .my name but I think they were named after aunties.

trisky · 29/01/2024 07:56

My name is Anne-Marie.

When was I born?

WellWillWoll · 29/01/2024 07:56

Yes. But not the one I was born in sadly.

Don't know what my Mum was thinking!!

justasking111 · 29/01/2024 07:57

trisky · 29/01/2024 07:56

My name is Anne-Marie.

When was I born?

Ooh hard one. 40s name so a family tradition perhaps?

TheCompactPussycat · 29/01/2024 07:59

No, my name has never been particularly common and doesn't suggest a specific decade.

Makegoodchoices · 29/01/2024 08:01

Yep, think mine is in danger of becoming an old lady name, when it could have become a beloved classic. So rude.

I met one under 30 the other day, which was a first.

TheCompactPussycat · 29/01/2024 08:01

trisky · 29/01/2024 07:56

My name is Anne-Marie.

When was I born?

I'd go for the 70s

idontlikealdi · 29/01/2024 08:01

No it wasn't popular when I was born. Now it's everywhere

Holidayhell22 · 29/01/2024 08:04

No it was unusual then. More common for younger people.
Hyphenated names are very common now by the way.
I think lots of modern names will date badly. They will be popular for a short period of time only.

trisky · 29/01/2024 08:12

@TheCompactPussycat @justasking111
Absolutely the 1970s. No family tradition.

Never met another one for years until younger ones recently.

AtLeastHalfRelieved · 29/01/2024 08:13

Yes, but not the decade I was actually born in 🤣

Cheers mum.

EffieeBriest · 29/01/2024 08:15

My name is Louise. Never met anyone called it as a first name apart from a girl in my class in early 70s. I was born 60s but I think it’s pretty timeless.

ohtowinthelottery · 29/01/2024 08:15

@trisky I'd guess 1960's as the one's I know are all from that era. But I suspect that maybe you've bucked the trend which is why you're asking!

I would say my name us definitely 1960's although I know people 15 - 25 years older than me who share my name.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 29/01/2024 08:17

Absolutely! There were 3 of us in as class of 11 at A-level. See the Princess of Wales.
