The USA removed these in the earlier 2000s because the threat was down.

Why are they bringing it back if all this talk with a war with Russia and conscription really is just fear mongering to get people comfortable with spending more £££ on defence?

Political posturing.

Real life war games for the rich and powerful. Much like teenagers etc playing call of duty but worse !

FWIW/For context this doesn't suddenly make the UK an outlier in Europe.

Four European nations plus Turkey already have a nuclear sharing arrangement with the US and may or may not (nobody will say for certain) already have US weapons stored on their territory.

So he will withdraw his support from NATO, if rumours are true from his own people. Why then would we be keeping US weapons?

Whether there are US nuclear weapons here or not, we are seen as an unsinkable aircraft carrier and as such would be on the front line in any nuclear war with Russia (or anyone else).

This isn't new is it? The USAF rents RAF bases all over the country. They might be called RAF Whatever but they are American airbases for use by the American airforce.

There's also a good chance Trump won't get into the White House again, scatteroflight.

And even if he did, the US passed a law last year – with Republican and Democrat support – preventing a president from withdrawing from NATO without approval from the Senate or an Act of Congress.

Two major countries US and U.K. are going into elections and that creates a security risk and emboldens certain leaders of other countries and they go for cyber attacks during this time, so you need this kind of deterrent to keep us all safe. Not that difficult to understand.
Trump won’t withdraw from NATO; he just wants us and the Germans etc to cough up cash towards it. Post pandemic we are in a precarious situation, the experts are telling us. Nobody listened pre Brexit, better listen to them this time.

I am glad we have the nuclear deterrent and don’t have any problem with the US stationing weapons here.

In fact the number of USAF used, RAF labeled bases is now way way down on what it was back in the proper Cold War days of the eighties.

I think we ALL know that perpetual wars (and the industrial engine they feed) oil our failing economic system and line the pockets of a selected few. Perpetual war is a goal for our global leaders. We produce nothing but weapons.
