Wedding veil advise , yea or nay

Leannemc79 · 27/01/2024 11:12

Please any advise I’m grateful for .
i am getting married in June this year . I have my dress , venue is beautiful but will be a small wedding . 50 guests max . Should I wear a veil ? Am I too old ? I am 44 second wedding for us both . I’d love to wear one for the pictures but don’t want to look like mutton dressed as lamb . I’ve attached pic of my dress . I moved in 2018 so don’t have contact with any female friends who I could ask .

Dress is great!!!

have you tried on any veils?

there are loads of options

I went for one that was to my finger tips at the back and sides but shorter at the front and quite plain.
it sort of sat over my shoulders and arms and I thought it looked cool!

2 women at my wedding liked it so much they both borrowed it for theirs!!!!

I'm a bit older and not having one, but am having silk flowers in my hair. Seems silly to have a veil to me but do what you want.

Jasmin1971 · 27/01/2024 11:25

Drop earrings and a fancy hair ornament is all you need with that beautiful dress. X

Absolutely go for one of that's what you want! It's your wedding.

Leannemc79 · 27/01/2024 11:26

Thank you for the advice , I haven’t tried any . I’d just go for finger tip length and single tier . I’m just thinking more for capturing some pics . I didn’t originally plan to have one , now I’m finding myself somewhat torn .

Try one or two and see how it feels. Your wedding, your choice, no right or wrong.

ManchesterRoad · 27/01/2024 11:29

Definitely try one. Not too old at all, if you want one, have one. All I would say is that your dress is absolutely stunning, so you probably don’t want a fussy pattern on the veil that will take attention away from all the detail on the dress.

colderandeatsmincepiesalot · 27/01/2024 11:31

Definitely have one! You are beautiful, the dress is gorgeous and when will you ever get to wear one again? Also close up head and shoulder shots will look like all the others in daily life (albeit more done up) but a veil will clearly mark out your wedding day. Try one as wearing one might elevate your feeling of being a bride and make you feel more special?? IYSWIM? And no not too old!

HowDoYouMakeThem · 27/01/2024 11:47

I think a veil would look stunning!

kkneat · 27/01/2024 11:59

Definitely not. Get something nice for your hair

idontlikealdi · 27/01/2024 12:08

How can you be too old for a veil?!

I wouldn't with that dress because the back is lovely and you have the train.

Leannemc79 · 27/01/2024 12:19

Thank you all for the opinions so far . If I tried one I would only have a plain single tier finger tip length one . Just to add I had no intention of buying my dress in these pics , I was in a local town shopping with my fella . Just popped in the shop as passing to browse as they had an awesome sale on . Decided to try this on I’d seen in the window , sent my fella to the pub while I did and ended up buying it . Had nobody else with me . So was totally unprepared with hair etc 🙈😂

You look gorgeous. Is it a church wedding? I think you just have to try some on with the dress, and focus on the whole look not just the veil part iyswim.

MadamVastra · 27/01/2024 12:23

My dd is having one - it finishes the dress off iukwim

Leannemc79 · 27/01/2024 12:26

Thank you . It’s a civil ceremony in a converted bar , country themed vibes . It is a stunning venue and endless opportunities to get scenic pics etc . Also what does iyswim mean ? 🙈😂

My sister asked a question that I thought was great.

"When else in your whole life will you ever get the chance to wear a veil?"

Sold. I loved my veil.

nandinos · 27/01/2024 12:50

It's your wedding OP you're never going to be as mutton dressed as a lamb. Whatever your age!
There are veils to go with all sorts of dresses, also all sorts of hairpieces the only consideration is whether you want one really. Some women dream of getting married in a cathedral veil!
I really wanted one, so I did, also had a side clip that made my profile look dreamy and gorgeous.
Have a look at some styles on Pinterest.

Crispsandwichrock · 27/01/2024 12:51

OP iyswim means "if you see what I mean".
I'd asked about church as you might feel more comfortable with a veil in some churches as your (beautiful) dress is backless. You will look fabulous.
Is it quite tricky to make friends where you have moved to? (Just picking up on something you said in your OP)

whereimfrom · 27/01/2024 12:57

Try some on, I wasn't going to have one but then ended up with a cathedral length one.
It really set the dress off. But totally your choice x

Leannemc79 · 27/01/2024 12:59

I made the move from Manchester to the Staffordshire moorlands area . Im like 5 mins from Alton towers . It’s tricky at my age to make friends etc tbh , as im at the mid age range . I don’t regret my choices etc , just miss some aspects at times like now .

You are gorgeous and could definitely carry off a veil if you want one. It would never occur to me that you would be "too old" to wear one.

Leannemc79 · 27/01/2024 13:04

Aww 🥹 , that is so kind of you , thank you for that xx

ThreeRingCircus · 27/01/2024 13:05

I LOVED wearing my veil and you should definitely try one and see how you feel. The only thing I would say is it may detract from your stunning dress as there's so much detail on the back already. But try one on and see how you feel.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 27/01/2024 13:05

OMG @Leannemc79 your dress is beautiful and you loom gorgeous ❤️
I think the dress looks lovely without a veil especially if you're wearing your hair up with flowers/accessories in.

However when I got married 20 years ago, I was adamant I did not want a veil but tried one on (at my mum's insistence) and was sold as I felt so 'bridal' 😄

saltnvini · 27/01/2024 13:06

Personally I would feel quite exposed with a low cut back like that so would like a longish one to cover up a bit. You however have a figure that can pull it off. Ignore the 2nd wedding and the age. It is no barrier. Have the outfit that makes you happiest
