Has anybody had haggis this week ?

Or at any other time ? Admittedly it's a delicacy I've never tried, whether traditional or vegetarian but I'm interested to know if haggis has much reach into Mumsnetville.

I don't remember Burns Night (or Week) being an event in the hospitality calendar until the last decade or so. Then again, I'm in Yorkshire so I expect it's different in Scotland. It's a way for the trade to start making some post-Christmas brass in the traditionally lean month of January.

I eat haggis regularly. I am also Scottish and living in Scotland.

LouScot · 26/01/2024 20:21

Yes, twice this week. I'm Scottish, living in Scotland. It's always on offer at this time of the year but available year round!

Skyrain · 26/01/2024 20:23

Work in a school and it was one of the school lunch options as it was Burns Day yesterday. Obviously in Scotland and love haggis.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/01/2024 20:23

Twice this week too. Bloody love a MacSweens Haggis here.

Sunseed · 26/01/2024 20:24

Yes, at a Burns Night Supper local fundraising event last Saturday, and looking forward to some pork & haggis sausages tomorrow.

Careerdecisions · 26/01/2024 20:24

Yes, haggis last night as it was Burns Night. Love haggis, needs and tatties. Scottish here too.

igivein · 26/01/2024 20:25

Not yet - DH and DS away at the moment, so saving it until they’re back tomorrow. Haggis with whiskey cream sauce mmmmmm

QuarterPastThree · 26/01/2024 20:26

Yes, yesterday evening. Very nice it was too.

PamelaParis · 26/01/2024 20:27

Just for balance, I'm Scottish and I've eaten haggis maybe a dozen times in my whole life. Grin None of which were this week, or even this century.

AuntLucy · 26/01/2024 20:27

Of course! Smith family here. I was wearing my tartan, of course 😁

tac10 · 26/01/2024 20:28

Yes I had it last night for burns night and also normally on St Andrews day. I’m Scottish but live in Yorkshire and you can buy it all year round at my local supermarket….. used to live in London and I could get it no problem when I wanted it….

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/01/2024 20:28

I want one of these 🤣

Has anybody had haggis this week ?
PriceMeByTheYard · 26/01/2024 20:28

I haven't had haggis for years. I love it. We used to have it for school dinners when I was at school in Scotland in the early 80s. On haggis days we had cockaleekie soup and a morning roll for our first course, then haggis with neeps and tatties. The only thing we didn't like on haggis days was there was no pudding, as clearly catering was restricted to two courses.

fulgrate · 26/01/2024 20:28

Not this week but I do eat haggis quite regularly

Rainbowshit · 26/01/2024 20:28

Yes. Scott's so had haggis last night and for lunch today. 😂

theduchessofspork · 26/01/2024 20:29

I love it!

Going to a ceilidh this weekend, so hopefully then..

Ugh. Autocorrect fail. *Scottish

persisted · 26/01/2024 20:29

Vegetarian haggis is a regular feature for me.
Good with a roast, Yorkshire puddings and gravy, or with mushrooms on toast.

Planning for it with Sunday dinner.

Justme10 · 26/01/2024 20:29

Yep, was out last night so had it tonight Grin

SauvignonBlanche · 26/01/2024 20:29

Yes, with need & tatties of course!

TheTecknician · 26/01/2024 20:29

Jolly good. Glad to see it's a tradition well observed. Is it frowned upon to serve haggis with any side dishes other than tatties and neeps? Obviously what happens in one's own home is one's own business, so haggis and chips/rice/pasta may yet be served.

Had Veg haggis from Waitrose this week. In south of England so had to hunt a bit to find a shop selling it. No idea if veg haggis is a travesty or not to ‘proper’ haggis it eaters, but I love it

I'd bloody love haggis and chips.

Broodywuz · 26/01/2024 20:32

Had it last night. Can't not have Haggis, Neeps and Tatties on Burns night! Would be like Christmas with no Turkey haha. Although that's the only 1 night of the year I make it.
I am Scottish in Scotland, it's always been a thing with us, even at school we all had to learn Robbie Burns poems and songs and had competitions every year. I think it's just that it's only recently really become a thing outside scotland

MissHoollie · 26/01/2024 20:32

I don't like the meat version but I love the Simon Howie brand veggie one .
I used it like a stuffing. Inside a chicken breast with bacon wrapped around .
I don't like mashed neeps so parboil... Cube and coat in a little gravypoweder and air fry till crisp
