Has anybody had haggis this week ?

Or at any other time ? Admittedly it's a delicacy I've never tried, whether traditional or vegetarian but I'm interested to know if haggis has much reach into Mumsnetville.

I don't remember Burns Night (or Week) being an event in the hospitality calendar until the last decade or so. Then again, I'm in Yorkshire so I expect it's different in Scotland. It's a way for the trade to start making some post-Christmas brass in the traditionally lean month of January.

I absolutely love haggis. Have it regularly

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/01/2024 20:33

I find that baked beans go well with haggis. 😮

Mrsjayy · 26/01/2024 20:34

yes we had it yesterday and we eat it regularly. I wouldn't really expect an English person to eat haggis regularly.

RJnomore1 · 26/01/2024 20:34

Well of course. I’m in Ayrshire so there would be an inquest otherwise!

oh stop that ! 🤢😀

Indulge me. Are 'neeps' mashed turnip or swede or both ?

We had haggis stuffed chicken breast with whisky cream sauce this evening, as we missed Burns night. Love a Haggis supper from the chipper , preferably with beans, but that’s once a decade.

Another who prefers Simon Howie veggie haggis. Never cooked a whole real one - the smell 🤮

Astridspuzzle · 26/01/2024 20:36

Mashed swede

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 26/01/2024 20:36

Neeps = mashed swede

Astridspuzzle · 26/01/2024 20:37

Had haggis, neeps and tatties tonight, delayed due to school event last night

Swede but we call it Turnip we also call Turnip Turnip just to add to the confusion .

Since I've shocked you with my bean comment...
Leftover haggis goes really well in a toastie.

Sorry - but vegetarian haggis is really not haggis.

I love it!

Going to a ceilidh this weekend, so hopefully then..

I was a bit worried then that there wouldn’t be a haggis supper but there IS, phew! No cockaleekie soup to start or cranachan for pudding though 😕 but dancing and whisky yes 💃

Doggbert · 26/01/2024 20:38

I had Aldi haggis bites (wee scotch egg type of things with neeps and tatties included). Not great but usually love haggis. Got given haggis slices as a thank you present once.

Aydel · 26/01/2024 20:39

Had it last night in Scottish church hall. Delicious.

That wouldn’t be weird at all but I live in Central Europe!

oh toastie is fine bur my god the beans!

Dorriethelittlewitch · 26/01/2024 20:39

Married to a Scot and living in Scotland. He and the kids had haggis, neeps and tatties on Wednesday. I made a haggis and chickpea curry last night with the leftovers.

Cushionsandcaramel · 26/01/2024 20:40

Of course!

Leftovers are great in a pie or in a cheese toastie.

Or as haggis carbonara 😍

Bilingualspingual · 26/01/2024 20:43

We had haggis, oven chips and peas the night before Burns Night. Breaking all the rules. Scot living in London.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/01/2024 20:43

Twice this week and there's still some left! Winning at life.

Mairzydotes · 26/01/2024 20:45

I did , I enjoyed it. I also really like swede/turnip but I only seem to have that at Burn's night .

Beamur · 26/01/2024 20:46

Not Scottish but we had haggis last night.
It's taken me quite a few years to be persuaded (by DH, also not strictly Scottish but his Granddad was if that makes a difference!) to even try it. But it really is delicious! We have it with swede and potato mashed together and peas. DH swears by having brown sauce with it.

blackpanth · 26/01/2024 20:47

Haggis was originally English!

hexsnidgett · 26/01/2024 20:48

3x this week! This is enough, although tempted to try with beans.Grin

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 26/01/2024 20:48
