Anyone else believe in the magical properties of this tub of wondrous gloop?

In our family it’s known as a fix all for everything.

Got a spot, mossie bite or limb hanging off?
A bad case of chub rub or sore bottom?
Need to re plaster the hallway?

Sudocrem is your answer!

My DCs laugh at how often I direct them to it, whatever their complaint.
(It’s either sudocrem, or duct tape as a solution in our house 😆)

What other uses are there for this wonder product?

I've just bought a brand new tub. One of the most exciting purchases in a long time.

Therollinghills · 26/01/2024 22:47

My horse had a tick bite that had swollen hugely, tick still in there, slathered it in sudocrem using a kitchen spatula, it suffocated the fucker and it came right out when I wiped the cream off. Love the stuff.

DramaAlpaca · 26/01/2024 22:50

It's amazing stuff. My three now adult children grew up slathered in the stuff, and it's still the cure-all for almost anything.

Most recently it was the treatment of choice for the late dog's itchy ears. She loved it. When her ears annoyed her she'd give the cupboard where it's kept the spaniel side-eye until I got the tub out, then she'd have this utterly blissful expression on her face when I rubbed it into her ears.

Ooh, does it work for chubrub? It completely ineffective as a barrier for DD2 (was fine for DD1) but I'll be trying it for my own struggles 😬

That's so interesting, I posted earlier about my Community midwife saying to bin Sudocreme for Vasline as a barrier... I love Bepanthen btw, for spots, mostly (me) & little scratches but I never used it as a barrier for nappy rash, obviously all babies bums are different

thatneverhappened · 26/01/2024 22:59

@Scorchio84 absolutely. Disclosure my two are half sisters but all the recommended creams worked for DD1 and nothing, not even yellow metanium, works for DD2. So annoying!!

JessicasLavalier · 26/01/2024 23:03

Just a word of warning- sudocrem works because it has zinc oxide in it - this acts as a fluid blocker and stops skin 'breathing' and reduces fluid loss.

It is really designed for smaller areas and short term use. Slathering it all over large areas of skin for prolonged periods especially in adults/the elderly can cause serious skin problems because it can dry out the skin excessively.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/01/2024 23:10

Yes! I first used it on my eczema when it was new to the market in the 80's and have never been without a tub since
The only downside I've ever found is that it will take the colour out of carpets when rubbed in by a toddler(x3)

Zippedydoodahday · 26/01/2024 23:11

It's bloody brilliant. Only thing that worked for my son's nappy rash.

I don't understand how they make any money though because the pots last forever. I've been using the same big pot for four years and it's still half full.

I mostly use it on my son at every bum change. Do put it on burns too tho

The smell is actually lavender. 😁

I don't think it smells like lavender. If it did I wouldn't use it. Hate the stuff

I do a sudocream face mask once a week after I read on here that someone did that. My skin is great the next day.

I'm going to need more information on this.

How long do you leave it on? Does it just absorb in eventually?

I had foot surgery 3 months ago and have a 7cm scar on my foot, will it help that? The consultant said massage the scar with cream but no idea what sort.

I think any form of lotion/massage helps
Vitamin E is good, I just got the capsules and pierced them with a needle and it was just the right amount with no waste

who on here hasn’t had a toddler smother themselves with it, and is weaned on the stuff?

Oh yes - twice. DD slathered herself one afternoon - full pot's worth. Scrapped it off, went and bought another. She did the same again next day. The day after that she came out in chickenpox. I swear she could feel itching, knew at her tender age I put sudocrem on her skin and that's why she did it.

Didn't know it was originally made in Dublin

And yes - I can personally attest it was on chubrub!

rachelanderson1 · 27/01/2024 00:03

I'm Irish so yes we know

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 27/01/2024 00:20

This thread popped up at the right time. I've simultaneously got sunburn, some other miscellaneous rashes and a bit of eczema and was wondering what to slap on it before bedtime. Completely forgot about the wonders of Sudocrem.
Youngest son has a pimple so I've dabbed a dot on him too. Excited for the results tomorrow.

Thanks!

There's always one who upsets the applecart! 😆 But seriously isn't it interesting? I have two nephews & a niece as well as my son & again one of them was almost allergic to everything (slight exaggeration! ) but really it's pot luck & I always advocate to "whatever works!"

Yep.

My kids mock me but know it always works!

Best stuff ever. Dogs, kids, husbands 💕

I put if on about an hour before I go to bed and then stay up for a couple hours in bed watching Netflix etc then I go to sleep,
By the morning it’s gone but my skin is so soft.
I apply my moisturiser and then make up as normal. Someone said my skin looks good recently so maybe it’s that.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 27/01/2024 05:45

It burns the heck out of me & my three daughters!

Tuftily · 27/01/2024 05:59

It's taken me almost 40 years to discover the magic of sudocrem! Apparently it an help tighten skin and reduce wrinkles...any thoughts?
