Anyone else believe in the magical properties of this tub of wondrous gloop?

In our family it’s known as a fix all for everything.

Got a spot, mossie bite or limb hanging off?
A bad case of chub rub or sore bottom?
Need to re plaster the hallway?

Sudocrem is your answer!

My DCs laugh at how often I direct them to it, whatever their complaint.
(It’s either sudocrem, or duct tape as a solution in our house 😆)

What other uses are there for this wonder product?

I'm not a fan, Bepanthen ftw!

metanium !!! This is amazing on bad nappy rash - just incredible for clearing it up over night ! I didn’t both with sudocream after that discovery!

Stopped working on my sons nappy rash

Jessforless · 26/01/2024 20:37

Love it so much… amazing for sunburn, don’t think I’ve ever found anything better. My brother in the midst of a horrible divorce came out for a day with all our DC and his fair skinned daughter (despite regular sun cream) ended up with really red cheeks. He was so stressed out, thought his ex to be would go crazy… at dinner on the way home we slathered her in sudocreme. Perfect cheeks by the time she was dropped off!

Sudocrem is the pride of Ireland! I was very upset to hear they recently closed down their Dublin factory to relocate in Bulgaria. No doubt cheaper labour. In theory I want to boycott them but it's just too amazing! This week alone my teenager had it on a spot and my DS had it around his mouth as he had a rash from chaffing. It is truly a miraculous invention. Vaseline is amazing too though.

Random fact - it was originally soothing cream but the local Dublin accent would be 'sood' for 'soothe' so they changed it.

Scorchio84 · 26/01/2024 20:48

I rememeber the community midwives taking me to task after we'd brought our baby home saying "Oh no we don't recommend Sudocreme, it's better for baby to use vaseline" I was like 👀needless to say because I was an older mother with a bit of confidence (34 practically a hag!) I listened to her but carried on with the Sudocreme, he never had a nappy rash or any angry, reactionary flare ups, sometimes just go with what you know works for you & your baby, I also used to use it on my face for spots growing up

Eugh no. Smells horrible and is all greasy and gross. Not a fan.

metanium however - now that IS a magic substance.

The smell is actually lavender. 😁

DerekFaker · 26/01/2024 20:57

Another fan here. Always have a bit pot in the house. Its healing properties are almost magical.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 26/01/2024 21:02

It's also fantastic for World Book Day - if you apply a light layer all over the face it makes an excellent Moaning Myrtle effect.

3luckystars · 26/01/2024 21:04

It’s absolutely incredible stuff.

I will always.call it Sudocream though!

There was a post here a while back whose arm was nearly ripped off with a rope or a dog lead and Sudocream fixed it, she had photos and everything. It’s miraculous stuff.

isawTheSkids · 26/01/2024 21:05

I had to see the doctor re sudocrem... she said 'oh ! Sudocrem finger!'
My skin around and under a fingernail had 'burnt.'

My daughter's nappy rash was not helped by sudocrem... only by metanium.

3luckystars · 26/01/2024 21:10

My dad thought Metanium was mustard and ate it in a sandwich.😂i dont know how he did that, It smells like fish!

I wonder could we find that thread where the woman’s hand was seriously injured and the Sudocream fixed it. I will look now for it.

TheFormidableMrsC · 26/01/2024 21:16

Bloody love it. Does wonders for your skin as a face mask too.

This has tickled me!
Now we are going to know just which kids’ parents are MNs on 7th March this year 😂

Loving all the love (mainly!) for the stuff.
Reminds me when DH said he needed some polyfilla, I immediately eyed up my trusty grey tub… 😆
Can also recommend it for re grouting the bathroom tiles. Am only half joking… 😉

I had foot surgery 3 months ago and have a 7cm scar on my foot, will it help that? The consultant said massage the scar with cream but no idea what sort.

TimeForBedSaidZebadee · 26/01/2024 21:26

It's the go to remedy in our house.

Mum I've got a mozzie bite- put some Sudacrem on it.

Mum the cat scratched me - put some Sudacrem on it.

Mum, my leg fell off - put some Sudacrem on it.

They don't bother asking anymore, they know where the Sudacrem is kept 😀

SallyWD · 26/01/2024 21:30

I love it too. Amazing stuff! Use it for (nearly) everything

OrangeHoney · 26/01/2024 21:31

I used bepanthen for nappy rash, i find sudocrem too drying (also dries out my eczema). However it's amazing on spots, always clears my chest acne without fail.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 26/01/2024 21:39

I use it on my cold sores. Dries them right up. Cold sore gone in a day.

Oh yeah totally "sudo CREAM" & I'm from Dublin where it was made originally 😆

CandidFruit · 26/01/2024 21:41

@3luckystars omg thank you so much for linking that thread! I am actually laughing out loud at some of the comments 😆
And who knew there were memes?!

As others have said, it's great on acne flare ups.

Icanflyhigh · 26/01/2024 22:28

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 26/01/2024 19:09

It's great on sunburn!

I'm currently dying in Lanzarote - heat exhaustion, far too much sun today. I'd give ANYTHING for a big tub of sudocrem right now!

thatneverhappened · 26/01/2024 22:43

Ooh, does it work for chubrub? It completely ineffective as a barrier for DD2 (was fine for DD1) but I'll be trying it for my own struggles 😬
