How much do new windows cost these days?

Hello all,

Just going through the motions of buying a 3 bed house and need new windows, there are 9 in total, probably standard size, no weird shapes.

My mom said I will probably have to spend about £4k but I think that's definitely not enough to budget for....I've got a window person doing me a quote but can't get the estate agent to be there with the keys for another fortnight so just wanted a ball park figure to work with.

I also want a new front door but may have to leave that a bit...

Thanks

Have been quoted just shy £1800 ex VAT per (large) sash window, in acoya wood, and fineo vacuum double glazing (it's better than triple, lasts longer and is very thin). In South London.

Costs are very scalable. PVC will be cheapest (and least environmentally friendly and pretty). Even within wood it scales a lot for wood and glass type (cheap wood won't last nearly as long as proper hard wood). And of course, location matters. Always double or triple for London :(

It depends on size (not sure what is "standard size"). And depends on location and whether you use reputable local builder or national firm.
Anyway, 4k sounds really cheap! I would expect more based on what people pay around here (NW England, reputable local builder, upvc double glazed window with argon filled glazing).

We’ve got Anglian coming in 2 weeks to fit 9 windows and a new front door (also 3 bedrooms).
Total cost is £7375.
Without the door it was just over £6k.

Are they pvc or wood? For pvc, if the glass is blown and needs replacing its only a couple hundred to replace the glass itself. Most people dont realise this abd think they need to replace the whole window. Watch a YouTube video it's surpringly easy.

What about if it's wood. Still a few hundred pounds to replace just the glass?

What are the key questions to ask?
I have heard about vents. Also about the size - and do they build to size or do they something if the size is bigger than standard frame size.

We paid £8.5k for 9 windows and front door / rear french doors a few months ago. Think we got it cheap though cause we also had our gutters etc done as package. We got 2 other quotes which were £9.5k and £10.5k.

I think if they are replacing more than a cert percentage of the windows, trickle vents, or some other ventilation, are compulsory. In our experience, all windows were measured individually and very thoroughly, and the frames and glass were made to measure. In fact, the company owner came back several times to confirm some of the measurements as they had recently done a house down our road and the measurements were different despite the house being the same style and age as ours. I know our new front door was expensive - we chose one that had a high security rating and upgraded the lock to a higher spec , plus, our door is possibly a little wider than is 'standard'. We took the view that the extra cost was worth it for the peace of mind and a decent guarantee.
