Thread 12 - TalkLair: “I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.”

(Previous thread 11).

The days are gradually growing longer, but the worst of the winter weather is not yet behind us. In the TalkLair, we remain hunkered down keeping cosy and warm. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Oh.
Dear!

Dotellhimpike · 07/02/2024 17:46

Nothing to add @Kucinghitam other than sorry for your family's ill health and that you are having to try and deal with it all.

duc748 · 07/02/2024 19:06

Great seat for Hamilton! 😄

MouseMinge · 07/02/2024 22:40

Really good seat. I hope you had a great time.

duc748 · 07/02/2024 23:06

It was terrific, Mouse. The music, the performances, the mis-en-scene, the whole nine yards. And the theatre is lovely too.

Britinme · 07/02/2024 23:08

Glad you enjoyed it duc - such a fabulous show.

duc748 · 07/02/2024 23:23

I was a bit surprised by the profile of the audience: one group of young school-kids (good to see), but I'd expected more students and young people, but much of the audience was my age or older. I actually looked round, and thought, I'll bet there's a few Mumsnetters here! 😃

MouseMinge · 07/02/2024 23:26

I'm glad you loved it. I still haven't seen it but one day I will. It's so much part of the zeitgeist that I feel that I know most of it and I know a lot of the numbers, but one day I'll cheer and clap in the audience. That Lin Manuel Miranda is such a talent, to come up with something so out there like that and to make it so brilliant. What a man!

duc748 · 07/02/2024 23:34

I researched it thoroughly re-read the wiki page on the train over, but the music, and the voices, were great. Just so good.

Kucinghitam · 08/02/2024 12:45

I'm glad you enjoyed Hamilton @duc748, I've only seen the Disney+ one.

How's the SNOW situation for everybody? I didn't think it would settle at first, but it's been coming down heavily for a while and there's a layer of white forming. Slightly concerned that it will affect DDs' commute home from school later.

Random pics: 1. We decorated the front room for Chinese New Year last night, had to wait until now for it to be bright enough to take a picture. 2. MochiMochiMochi on my legs.

I love your decorations! I also love the colour of your walls and it works really well with the decorations.

Rain here. It’s a horrible day. I would much prefer some snow.

artant · 08/02/2024 13:10

Oh and MochiMochiMochi is a very pretty cat.

Britinme · 08/02/2024 13:11

Gorgeous cat, and lovely decorations Kuc. What do the Chinese characters in red on the walls mean?

SinnerBoy · 08/02/2024 13:11

Cold here off Schiermonikoog, not raining currently.

I had to zoom in to the picture over your fireplace, Kucinghitam - I thought it was a 3-D paper decoration!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/02/2024 13:37

Lovely colours in all the decorations, Kuc, and MochiMochiMochi looks positively blissed out. Those curled up feet!

No snow here, just torrential rain from around 3am till about an hour ago. Given how much rain we've already had in recent months, I'd prefer the snow.

Kucinghitam · 08/02/2024 13:40

Thanks all, the characters (from left to right) are (blessing/prosperity), (blessing/ good fortune) and chūn (spring).

BTW: I didn't write them because I can't really read or write Chinese. A friend did them as a gift Smile

MochiMochiMochi is a sweetheart! Half-hearted sleet here. Not pleasant.

MouseMinge · 08/02/2024 15:31

Your living room is so lovely even without the beautiful decorations and MochiMochiMochi is the sweetest floof.

I finished The Travelling Cat Chronicles last night and, again, had to stay up for about half an hour afterwards until I could get my nose unblocked from all of the crying but oh my, such a beautiful book. I highly recommend to all cat lovers but equally recommend not reading in public because you never know when you laughter and smiles might turn to tears. There's a sadness throughout but it's not desolate, it's as though you accept the sadness as part of the love and beauty and Nana the cat is a glorious creature. I shall spend some of today figuring out what to pick up to read tonight.

Oh gosh, yesterday evening I went to the local pub - The Toad - for a singalong with Snoop and some other friends. It was shanties but oh my days so loud and so badly sung. Seamus was not impressed so I took him for a little walk to protect both our ears and when we got back, he, Snoop and I went to the other end of the pub where our ears were bleeding a bit less. I left early-ish because my tinnitus was asking me what in the name of the singing ringing tree did I think I was doing to my poor ears!

VictorianBigot · 08/02/2024 15:51

I love thé decorations @Kucinghitam, and OMG MochiMochiMochi is so cute 😻 I want to tickle that belly so bad.

VictorianBigot · 08/02/2024 15:57

I’m ill. So ill! I’ve been in bed most of the week with some sort of dreadful cold (tested twice for Covid - Day 3 and Day 6 but both negative). Today is the first day I’m not coughing to the point of retching, but my ears feel all plugged up and muffled and I was weak at the knees trying to wash my disgusting hair earlier. It’s the first cold I’ve had in years and years, I’d forgotten how horrible it all is.

MouseMinge · 08/02/2024 16:06

A bad cold is such a shitty thing. Get well soon, @VictorianBigot and I really hope you've reached the peak of awful-lurgy and will be on the thank god I'm feeling a little bit better path very soon. x

Britinme · 08/02/2024 16:33

That sounds deeply unpleasant @VictorianBigot and I hope you feel much better very soon.

I haven't read The Travelling Cat Chronicles but on looking it up on Amazon I discover that a cat with a crooked tail is supposed to mean good fortune. I told this to Skittles but nonetheless she continued to bite the hand with which I am trying to type this.

I don't know if anybody has read an old book by Paul Gallico called Jenny, which is also about a cat, but that one had me in tears too, many years ago.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/02/2024 16:40

Hope you feel better soon @VictorianBigot ! Sudden colds when you're not used to them are a dreadful insult to the system.

artant · 08/02/2024 17:11

I wouldn’t rule out Covid @VictorianBigot - I think it’s possible current variants aren’t always picked up by the tests but it’s also possible there are just some horrible colds going round. Either way, take good care of yourself.
