Thread 12 - TalkLair: “I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.”

(Previous thread 11).

The days are gradually growing longer, but the worst of the winter weather is not yet behind us. In the TalkLair, we remain hunkered down keeping cosy and warm. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Happy Easter to all you unreasonable paranoid bigots, long may you reign.

Kucinghitam · 31/03/2024 15:04

Yeah, but you're our unreasonable paranoid bigot, Brit!

Aww shucks... I feel so held.

Britinme · 31/03/2024 16:36

Happy Easter everyone. No chocolate in this house, which seems very unreasonable to me, but we are going out to dinner this evening.

MouseMinge · 31/03/2024 18:57

Happy Easter all!

I'm amazed that the transwomen are on this site given that we're apparently a cesspit of transphobic monsters. I'm sorry that they bruised you but you are our wonderful @Britinme so sucks to be them and so very wrong.

VictorianBigot · 31/03/2024 19:26

Happy Easter Easter Smile

MmePoppySeedDefage · 31/03/2024 19:35

Happy Easter one and all and that's great news about finishing the radiotherapy Mouse.

Britinme · 31/03/2024 20:58

@MouseMinge they're not on this site - on Threads, and I believe American as one is a grad student at UCLA and the other a veteran of the American airforce.

MouseMinge · 01/04/2024 02:11

Ah, that makes sense. I'm guessing they're very much the "This never happens" type who like to tell us that things that have and do happen are figments of our own bigotry. Or, if they acknowledge something heinous, it's a one off and unfair to say it's a problem which always leaves me thinking how many women is it okay to assault/rape/murder in order to keep the TRAs "happy".

Anyway! Apologies, not the right thread but sometimes the brain demands to be heard/read. I hope you had a lovely meal today to make up for your lack of Easter eggs! (Finishing my rantiness on a more upbeat level 🙂)

Happy April Fool's Day, everyone!

ChezKuc we continued our tradition of pranking DDs' breakfasts. It's DH's joyous Dad-obsession. This year was a benign one - he carefully cut a hole in the bottom of some oranges, hollowed them out and filled them with orange jelly to give DDs a surprise when they cut them open.

There was the year we froze their bowls of Cheerios and milk. The year DH made "yoghurt" out of cornflour paste. The worst was the year we replaced the contents of the raisin packet with fried crickets, which made for an alarming garnish on the cornflakes (went digging through my old photos and found it!).

LOL @Kucinghitam, I think that would put me off cornflakes for life. Maybe I will play a prank on Kasper and freeze his lick e lix.

Britinme · 01/04/2024 14:26

Ha! That's a glorious April fool tradition Kuc! I'd rather have the orange jelly than the dried crickets!

artant · 01/04/2024 15:25

The dried crickets are both genius and awful!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 01/04/2024 16:02

Fried crickets, brilliant. How long did it take them to notice?

MouseMinge · 01/04/2024 16:03

I'd like the orange jelly one he did today. The crickets not so much.

I'm still feeling pretty lousy but last night I had a couple of hours of brain clarity which was really nice and I know I'll start feeling better - well I bloody hope I will! - over the next couple of days so onwards and upwards. I'm still very much enjoying the fact that there are blue skies and it's not raining every damn minute of the day!

SinnerBoy · 01/04/2024 16:06

Yes, the orange jelly wasn't cruel, at least! We didn't really notice it, or say April Fool. We went on a slightly disappointing nature walk, just a pair of moorhens and loads of red, yellow, pink and blue snails.

And a bit of wood with bracket fungus, split in half. You can see where the fungus has invaded the wood and softened it. There's a (probably a beetle) pupa, empty.

MouseMinge · 01/04/2024 16:06

WhatsApp with Snoop today - we WhatsApp every day which makes me happy - and we're looking forward to watching the first episode of Ripley when she gets back from that India. It starts on 4th but I told her I'd wait to watch it until she got back so we could perve together like the disgusting beasts we are. It looks so good and I can't wait. In the meantime I've started watching Mr and Mrs Smith which is also very good.

MouseMinge · 01/04/2024 16:07

Wow, multicoloured snails!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 01/04/2024 16:13

Hope everyone who has been feeling lousy feels better very soon!

There's a blackbird nesting in high up corner of the wood shed. We noticed her going in and out under the door and she's now on the mud layer, having made a mess of some of my plant pots. The birds, blackbirds especially, have been extra relaxed around us so far this year so hopefully Mrs Blackbird won't mind if one of us nips in for a bit of wood.

SinnerBoy · 01/04/2024 17:05

MouseMinge · Today 16:07

Wow, multicoloured snails!

Separate colours, but all the same species. They're the type thrushes normally find and break open.

My parents were chortling at Mr. Kuc and his increasingly pranksome pranks with breakfast.

MouseMinge · 01/04/2024 17:58

I got overexcited with multicolour. I realised that you'd seen different colours but the idea of seeing different coloured snails excited me so much I lost my tiny little mind for a moment.

I'm a snail saver. If it's been raining and they're out on pavements and stuff and likely to be crushed I pick them up, have a little word with them and find them somewhere safe to unfurl again and go about their lives. I'm very fond of snails.

MouseMinge · 01/04/2024 19:31

Oh my gosh, they're so beautiful! I love them all and would happily spend days saving them from pavements and chatting to them about their beauty.

Britinme · 01/04/2024 20:40

Finally one of my neighbours has crocuses up in front of his house - I wonder how they (the crocuses) will feel after the snowstorm we're expecting on Wednesday night...

MouseMinge · 02/04/2024 19:38

My final portable chemo pump has been put on today and for the first time in such a way that it's easier for me to take any top clothes off. Months of the bastard and finally someone did it in a way that makes my life easier! Not a great day in terms of how I'm feeling. I had to get a lift and thankfully my friends L and D were available and L came into the hospital with me because I was too weak to do too much walking and she got me a wheelchair to push me about. I've basically just not getting enough nutrition due to the amount of heaving and I'm hoping that will change quickly. As a result I'm very, very lightheaded and feeble.

Anyway! I'm trying to get more food in me this evening and so far have kept it down. I can't use the feeding tube until we do an x-ray tomorrow. I have to test the acid level of "my stomach" before I can put food in and for a few days now the results are coming back to alkaline. The tube may well still be in my stomach but the amount of heaving may have moved it so I can't risk putting food through it. Fuck me, I'm boring myself and annoying myself with this shit. I'll be fine, cancer sucks, we all know that, there are people suffering WAY worse than me. Enough of the me, me, me already!
