Shows? Dunno, you? Confused

delilabell · 24/01/2024 07:27

Not after the first series but I think had to many series is call the midwife. And larknrise to candleford. They've become so "safe"

FloofCloud · 24/01/2024 07:29

Anything with more than a few series ... can't stand episode 1098 series 77 .... they lose their edge!

Is this for an article? Do you have any shows you'd suggest fit the bill OP?

curvesfordays · 24/01/2024 11:51

Ok this thread has been a fail

The tourist
second series was just ridiculous, I didn’t finished the last 2 episodes

dailyduel · 24/01/2024 12:23

I love Yellowstone and I loved 1883 but I don’t think 1923 should have been made if that counts. It’s awful

Fuckitydoodah · 24/01/2024 12:24

Mrs Brown's boys. Because it's shite.

PuppyMonkey · 24/01/2024 12:26

Peaky Blinders was only good first season imho.

Finishingoff · 24/01/2024 12:27

I get you OP!

I loved Flash Forward and Terra Nova. I was gutted when they were cancelled.

Bluevelvetsofa · 24/01/2024 12:32

Mrs Brown’s boys should never have been shown beyond the first episode. Thats when it became apparent how shite it is.

Aaron95 · 24/01/2024 12:33

Heroes. The first season was actually pretty good, and had a self-contained story. It went rapidly downhill from there as the characters got more and more ridiculously powerful and the writers clearly had no clue where to go.

True Detective. The first series was original. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey made Season 1 unforgettable. After that it got a bit boring.

The Bridge. Again the first series was superb but once the orignal story had been completed it got repetitive.

Greys anatomy and criminal minds shouldn't have lasted as long as they have both went down hill

Myridiculousstomach · 24/01/2024 13:16

Not quite the same but I often find that a series will be very good for the first season but loses my interest entirely if it comes back for a second (or more) series. Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty are too that spring to mind - their stories were told in the first series of both, they were very popular so came back and then it felt like the scriptwriters couldn’t think of anything strong enough because the story was really already finished.

Two programmes that I was considering watching on Disney+ (I was a teenager when they first aired) because of nostalgia and enjoying them at the time and not watching all the seasons. but I'm not really sure I have the patience to binge watch a couple of episodes per night for over a month. Just finished watched 6 series of nip/tuck on Amazon prime as good as it was I think it run its course after about season 4.

Terry and June
Duty Free
Anything where they have to bake a cake, cook something or make a dress

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/01/2024 14:00

Mrs Brown's Boys for sure.

Ghosts. I didn't get it. It seems like a silly kids show. I really wanted to like it, too.

I like lots of other silly comedy like Miranda, Ab Fab etc, yet when similar things are recommended, they never quite hit the spot.

Terry and June I remember loving as a kid, but I bet if I watched it now I'd think it was awful. Mind, I always loved June Whitfield in everything else.

MrsHughesPinny · 24/01/2024 14:02

Weeds. I tried to persevere and got to season 3 but it was just shite.

LaPalmaLlama · 24/01/2024 14:07

Silent Witness aka Silent Shitness/ silent witless. To be fair the first few series were v good but they should have stopped about 10 series ago. Who is still watching it????? They jumped the shark about 8 times.

Not sure if I’m remembering this accurately but I think Heroes actually got cancelled halfway through a series which is almost unheard of. It’s like the writers were writing one episode ahead, wrote themselves into a corner and just thought “fuck if- this is ruined now” 🤣

VoleChomper · 24/01/2024 14:10

There was a great series called Damages starring Glenn Close and Rose Byrne made about 15 years ago. It was a thriller set in a Manhattan law firm. Really twisty and turny and kept me absolutely glued. But by the end of the first series all the big twists had been revealed. But because it had been a success, they couldn’t call it quits. Think they made a further four series, all of which were much weaker.

LaPalmaLlama · 24/01/2024 14:10

Manifest is another one. Same problem as Lost. Just hard to take it on without making stupidly non credible plot lines.

Wishimaywishimight · 24/01/2024 14:10

Silent Witness. It used to brilliant but we're now on Series 500 (or near enough!) and it's lost it's edge 😀
