Which shows do you think showed no promise, but never got cancelled after the first season but should have?

Yep.

Many others like Call the Midwife - had few good seasons but then went on and on to long.

24 - mid way though first season it slumped but then did finish okay. I heard late they written first 12 hours and not rest till they got confirmed they were filming it. Didn't like any of the rest of the series watched 2 tried 3 and 4- but it had 9 seasons so clearly in a minority with that one.

West world - though season 2 was confusing but good beyond that it didn't really work though had a few good moments.

Ah right, so it's just a thread about tv programmes you don't like. Obviously strictly shouldn't have been cancelled after one series, 2 decades on and it's still a ratings winner whether it makes you yawn or not.

Scandal.

1st and 2nd season. Amazing.

Then it just got weirder and weirder almost to the point of being unwatchable.

The Flight Attendant. Loved the first series but the second was ridiculous.

Also Thirteen Reasons Why.

Have you seen the second series?
The first was dire and too try hard
But I binged watched the second series over Xmas and thought it was ok a lot better than the first imo.

The handmaids Tale needed to end, maybe not at S2 but there's a whole series of June staring into the camera being "SCARYJOON" with the death stare and not much else

... that said I'm so over invested in it I need to watch it all so I'll be there til the bitter end

Britain's Got Talent. Entertaining for a few series, all became a bit same-y. "You're what this show is all about", "You weren't good (long pause), you were great". Sob stories, camera goes to audience members in tears etc etc.

Yeah- these things don’t work for multiple seasons as the whole premise is “crazy stuff happens to normal person”. When they stop being normal or crazy stuff keeps happening to them it loses credibility. Like when Nikki on Silent Witnness gets kidnapped every other week 🤣

Controversial view: it shouldn’t have been made at all - or at least not in the way it was. It was shite from the beginning. Way too different from the book. Couldn’t watch it. It’s arguable unfilmable as one of the real points of the book is that it’s been organised and put together (by a man) from her recordings. We don’t know her name, that’s the point - and that even at the ‘end’ (we don’t know what happened) she’s controlled by a man.
Having said that, Atwood sort of deals with some of that in The Testaments.

Homeland.
They should have had a different ending to series one and it would have been one of the greatest shows ever. Instead it quickly became ridiculous.

War of the worlds... really enjoyed the first season but felt it was all that was needed. Plus the second was terrible, I only watched a few.

Death in Paradise has gone on for too long.
I will add that quiz show with Michael McIntyre ( and anything else he stars in ) to the list of shows that should have never made it past the first one.

As much as I love TBBT I agree it shouldn't have lasted as long as it did.

I think weeds got better towards the end
