Is this a verruca ? (Warning pic included)

I’ve seen a dermatologist for my child’s hand. They said it looks like a verruca but couldn’t absolutely confirm and recommended using over the counter treatment. It came off once and it was what I can only describe as a sponge underneath. It bled A LOT which makes me think it wasn’t a verruca. It seemed to heal, skin returned to normal but it’s come back with a vengeance.

ive been trying to get a GP appointment for weeks now with no luck as it’s causing quite a lot of pain and gets quite angry. Any ideas ? It has like black dots in it this time round. Looking at google, it does seem to resemble some of the photos but not ‘typical’.

im just not sure how to help and it’s causing a lot of distress ! I try to keep it covered as much as I can as I read you need to try and starve it of oxygen but just seems to be getting bigger and bigger. (It’s probably the size of a penny now)

thanks for any advice

Looks like a fairly typical verruca/wart. What treatments have you tried? Whatever you choose being persistent and consistent is key.

thank you that’s reassuring. I’ve been using bazuca but she’s on a break from it as per the instructions. I have tried the shcool pen too but that didn’t seem to do much. Other than that a wart plaster at nighttime.

My son had one very similar. We would scrape the top of it with a foot hard skin remover scalpel type tool to remove a slice of skin and then put the medicines on as it didn't seem to penetrate the verucca otherwise. Once we did this it disappeared for good.

Have you try duck tape?

Good tip thanks I have been using the file that comes with it but maybe something harder is required !

I think that looks a lot like a wart/verruca they can definitely bleed a lot and take forever to sort out.

equinoxprocess · 23/01/2024 20:04

If you're filing it just be careful you don't spread the virus into the healthy skin around it.

The black dots are dried blood vessels.

Foreversomething · 23/01/2024 20:07

Thank you I feel a bit more relived now. I was worried it was something else as I read they’re not supposed to bleed !

If its on the hand it's a wart. As far as I know a verruca is on the feet. They can bleed if big chunks come away

Seadreamers · 23/01/2024 20:19

Years ago I finally got rid of 21 verrucas on one foot by using Salactol wart paint. They started to disappear in a week, and no other treatments had worked including freezing at the GP.

I think the duct tape works by suffocating it or something like that.

Hoolahooploop · 23/01/2024 20:21

It’s a verruca. I had two on my feet as a child. Tried lots of things. In the end the bazucca extreme version worked in one night

carly2803 · 23/01/2024 20:22

try duct tape

also stop wasting your money on bazucca

get a referral to dermatology?

Goldenphoenix · 23/01/2024 20:23

Clear nail varnish applied everyday got rid of mine when everything else had failed.

We’ve already seen one. She said she thinks it’s a verruca. She said she could freeze it off but there’s no way my child would sit through that. (Has SEN and is terrified of the doctors room - just about showed the hand!)

I think jts a verruca too. My son had a stubborn one. We used a corn plaster and it literally slid put from the root. Suffocate it for sure. We did weeks and weeks with bazuka to no avail.

Oblomov23 · 23/01/2024 20:42

That looks fine, it's responding to treatment and starting to come out, keep on with the treatment, it's clearly working.

dementedpixie · 23/01/2024 20:43

If its on the hand it's a wart rather than a verruca.
Duct tape may help if they can tolerate it being stuck to their skin

ErinAoife · 23/01/2024 20:47

Natural remedy for wart is apple cider vinegar. I had a wart that resist to every treatment on her, even the freezing by the gp. Try apple cider vinegar on a cotton wool taped on the wart nland after 2 months it was gone

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 23/01/2024 20:52

I took DD to GP and he froze it. After weeks of home remedies that did nothing, it fell off in a matter of days never to return.

Dontwanttobefatanymore · 23/01/2024 20:55

We used the wartfreeze from boots there’s a kid safe one. It took three attempts but better than the filing and bazuca

GettingStuffed · 23/01/2024 20:58

They're notoriously difficult to get rid of, if Nath else works prick it with a pin until it bleeds, that should stimulate the immune system to get rid of it.

intact · 23/01/2024 21:05

Ds had a huge one on his foot, wouldn't go and in the end I filed it until it bled, then covered with duct tape, must've triggered an immune response as after that it died off !

mrsmoppp · 23/01/2024 21:06

It deffo looks like a verruca , I had one on my foot for over 10yrs, combined with bazzuca and digging it out with cuticle cutters i finally got rid of it. It bled loads.
