Why did I not think of AI Rishi before?
The giveaway is the same rictus grin whatever he's doing especially when it calls for gravitas. Checking out the channel on a boat with the wind in your hair is one of these occasions.
He looked silly enough taking the cheap photo opportunity in the first place!

There has just been a Home Office minister on the Today programme taking about knife crime. I wasn’t really paying attention but I did hear that the lack of funding in youth services is due to the last Labour government leaving them bankrupt. Obviously it’s all Gordon Brown’s fault is the latest soundbite

I heard that on R4. Boiled my piss.

Tried to say there's been a 26% decrease in knife crime over 4 years.

Immediately I thought - yeah averaged including the 18 months of lockdowns which would have decreased it naturally. Very clever twisting of statistics.

Cornettoninja · 25/01/2024 16:25

Labour government leaving them bankrupt

hmmm so the Tories managed to make a bad situation worse is what I’m seeing. Labour left them a note saying ‘there’s no money left’ and they thought ‘well there is if you stop funding infrastructure!’

And borrow more while claiming austerity was necessary to pay off the debt. I suppose it’s Schroeding’s debt.

Oh and I have to take exception at them using the phrasing ‘left them. Left us.

I don’t know if that was your phrasing or the politician spouting @VimtoVimto but it makes me itch whenever they start talking like the treasury is their personal Tory bank.

Anyone seen @jgw1 on here? She's being quiet. Hope all ok

Now you mention it…. Hope you’re ok if you’re reading @jgw1.

(I did just notice that there was no auto-option for @‘ing her. I hope she’s not gotten herself pushed over the edge in another thread)

newnamethanks · 25/01/2024 16:45

30p wants his job back? 30pLee, you need to pay more attention Rishi doesn't have working class friends. You had your foot in the door, though. U-nlikely to happen twice.

dontcallmelen · 25/01/2024 17:13

I did read on another thread jgw1 said her child was waiting for surgery at some point this year, possibly why she hasn’t been active on threads, do hope all is ok.

newnamethanks · 25/01/2024 17:21

Best wishes jgw1, hope all well.

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2024 17:43

Oh no! If jgw has been banned , I'm going on a protest march. Not even kidding.

Cornettoninja · 25/01/2024 17:51

@Piggywaspushed in her honour I’d have to turn up and sarcastically counterprotest you Grin

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2024 17:53

We can have signs about women.

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/01/2024 17:54

I’ll go dressed as a communist in her honour.

dontcallmelen · 25/01/2024 17:58

And “But Corbyn” “Keir’s Beer”

MrTiddlesTheCat · 25/01/2024 18:02

I'll go dressed as a pot plant.

BIossomtoes · 25/01/2024 18:19

I don’t think she’s been banned. The @ autofill thing only works on threads the person has posted on. I just tried on another thread she’s posted on and her name came up. Maybe there’s a lot of other stuff going on in her life right now.

Cornettoninja · 25/01/2024 18:21

That’s reassuring @BIossomtoes - I’d never have thought to try that!

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2024 18:22

I hope jgw is ok or just taking a break from the madness.

Just flicking through Twitter - no strikes from hospital doctors currently but lots of these sorts of updates up & down the country -

NEW: Kettering General Hospital has joined neighbours Northampton and Milton Keynes in declaring a critical incident. Patients waiting 30 hours for a bed and ambulances being delayed for up to 7 hours:

x.com/shaunlintern/status/1750562922722422953?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

It's not limited to winter pressures anymore - it's year round.
Dunno know why I'm posting except I'm frustrated with the lack of action & investment.

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2024 18:24

And another one from Shaun Lintern -

🚨 Plymouth's Derriford hospital is on its 4th day of a critical incident. At 9am there were over 100 patients in A&E, one had waited over 44 hours. The trust bed occupancy was 105%:

It's like we are being conditioned to accept this situation.

medianewbie · 25/01/2024 18:27

Evening. I've been 'enjoying' the news about NS' sweary WhatsApp messages re BJ et al during lockdowns.

Cornettoninja · 25/01/2024 18:29

@Notonthestairs is maddening isn’t it? This situation, certainly the ambulances, is racking up years at this point. I still can’t quite comprehend that this isn’t a massive scandal. I suppose it’s easy enough to bat away because only a small percentage of us ever require an ambulance at any one time.

i don’t think people quite realise until it’s them realising that there no one is going to come when they call.

I’m fairly certain a couple of deaths/murders reported lately are going to be found to be the outcome of police services being unable to attend mental health calls. They spelt it out very clearly at the end of last year that they couldn’t but there’ll be the depressingly familiar outrage destined to be ignored when it finally gets earmarked as a contributor to people’s deaths.

They’ve stopped sending a pop up to trust computers whenever we hit OPEL 4. I know we are now because there was an email yesterday afternoon but it’s a weekly thing so I don’t think people take much notice anymore.

We may have managed nearly 3 weeks at some point last autumn IIRC.

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2024 18:39

Yes, agree Cornetto. But when you need them, then you really need them. No doubt someone will come along to blame those that over eat kebabs calling 999. But I think the majority of those phone calls to emergency are from people in need.

My parent collapsed and did get an ambulance - but was turned away from 3 A&E departments before going out of county.

Mental health services & social care - two massively unfunded, under resourced parts of our infrastructure that go on to have an impact on a whole other range of services.

I particularly like ‘Shitler’ Grin I hope she doesn’t apologise, she was pretty much bang on.

strange how they couldn’t work the same magic on old Boris and Rishi’s shit phones.

Cornettoninja · 25/01/2024 18:46

@Notonthestairs James O’Brien played some heartbreaking audio probably about a year ago of a son repeatedly phoning 999 for his mum until the final call when the operator asked the standard ‘is the patient breathing’ and he just screamed ‘no’. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that.

I’ve had my own experiences over the last couple of years but thankfully I’ve never had to experience what that poor man and his mum did. It was just awful.
