Yeah the money men and women behind Johnson/Truss/Frost etc are starting to flap at the idea they won't have access to power.

They’ve had a good run for their money, surely they didn’t think it could last for ever?

Well they were hoping Johnson would hang on for a decade!

BIossomtoes · 24/01/2024 11:51

I guess that might have been a possibility without Covid. Every cloud and all that.

Johnson would have survived Covid - appointing known sex pest's however......

You think? I’m not so sure. The vast majority of his supporters wouldn’t have given a shit about his dubious appointments. It was the callousness and incompetence of his handling of the pandemic that really did for him. And Partygate. Pincher was the icing on the cake.

Lee Anderson says he should have voted for the Rwanda bill and wants his old job back

Reading about Lee Anderson if it was any other person here you'd think "this person needs therapy". But with Anderson it's more "live with it"

I agree. It was definitely the straw rather than the main issue.

He was losing supporters both in electorate and the party over partygate. People could see that he wasn't a leader and this just proved it and wasn't something they could blame on being an unknown. You could always blame the pandemic for things on the basis most people don't deal with one.

RafaistheKingofClay · 24/01/2024 17:09

the electorate cared about partygate. The Tory party not so much. They mostly cared about being re-elected and were worried the Pincher crisis on top of partygate was bad for them.

Sadly for their re-election prospects they still have very little idea what lost of the electorate are bothered about. They don’t understand why they are toxic to voters any kore than they understood by people were angry about parties and corruption.

itsgettingweird · 24/01/2024 17:56

Agree. I think they just thought if they said "no one cares about the parties" enough it would be true.

But they couldn't even make their minds up about parties and the electorate caring. Apparently no one cares whilst we also all cared massively abouts Kiers legal beer. Confused

countrygirl99 · 24/01/2024 18:18

I think Johnson could have survived any 1 or 2 scandals, it was the accumulation that git him.

Zonder · 24/01/2024 18:47

You say that like there's any doubt about it. Surely whatever they say automatically becomes fact?

So on the News Quiz next week.

"Who wants his job back?"

I guess that would be seen as BBC bias? And not satire

They can't cope with the fact that their lackeys in the right wing press pushing the narrative re Starmer and his beer and party gate didn't have the usual traction.

Would it not be easier and quicker to ask who doesn't want their old job back?

Note that they have all gone quiet about Starmer's role (or lack of it) in the PO scandal. Another smear that didn't work.

VimtoVimto · 25/01/2024 08:46

There has just been a Home Office minister on the Today programme taking about knife crime. I wasn’t really paying attention but I did hear that the lack of funding in youth services is due to the last Labour government leaving them bankrupt. Obviously it’s all Gordon Brown’s fault is the latest soundbite

If that’s the line they’re taking I can see this coming out quite a lot over the coming months.

I thought they fixed that with austerity? 🤔

There was I, thinking that Rishi was trying to get inflation down to help us , rather than to also reduce government debt.🙄

Interesting article in the context of the current Tory infighting though.

I bet that bastard Starmer is responsible for my bus not turning up for the 11 millionth time this week. Honestly is there anything in this country that works properly?
