I’ve taken the liberty again.

Old thread here..

Clearly we haven’t moved past whatever you do don’t apologise from partygate. No matter how much worse increasingly bonkers defences of the indefensible are going to get.

This will run and run unless they just apologise and apart from anything else that is closing to take the focus away from the families campaign. It’s going to become about Rishi not Brianna.

AdamRyan · 07/02/2024 20:00

I couldn't even watch it. Like the most boring ever university lecture.

I'm assuming they are trying to minimise embarrassing memes.

I hope they tell him to eff off

Me too. They would be better off meeting with Starmer anyway, given Sunak's days are numbered.

Here's the Conservative Party Political Broadcast shown by BBC tonight.🙈

Ah, is this where he used a flip chart? I was wondering why pictures are doing the rounds.

cakeorwine · 07/02/2024 20:12

I wonder - where are the decent Conservatives? Are they too scared to speak up? I can see some have condemned the comments - but it's so disappointing to hear silence.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2024 20:15

Dehenna Davison has spoken out

"It was disappointing to hear jokes being made at the trans community’s expense. Our words in the House resonate right across our society, and we all need to remember that."

She wasn't in Parliament today and is standing down at GE

Jeremy Cunt living up to his name.

If that's his idea of how you speak in front of a grieving mother you have respect for (or even even if you don't), he is as deluded as his boss.

They are really showing their colours.

Sam Coates

I'm told the Tories had been preparing their assault on Labour's £28 bn for ages - hoping to use it to pivot the conversation in their favour

Then Sunak messes up PMQs, and all the work gets lost

Some in No10 discussed an apology - but Kemi Badenoch's tweets doubling down removed that choice

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/02/2024 20:20

The only reason I would want to watch a broadcast by the conservatives at this point is if it says 3 words.

General election tomorrow.

They are fucking disgusting.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/02/2024 20:25

It is terrible. I can't believe it was a scripted, recorded piece. His spelling is shite and he draws what looks like the saddest house in the world.

They must really hate him.

cakeorwine · 07/02/2024 20:56

The comments by Government Ministers trying to defend the comments and how they are trying to say what he was trying to talk about etc are awful - they are obfuscating.

Zero empathy

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/02/2024 21:03

Can I just say that Stephen Flynns questions have been bang on lately. I find myself applauding, not just the questions, but the delivery.

I'm not in Scotland, and not a big fan of the party line on independence, but he comes across very well.

EffieeBriest · 07/02/2024 21:15

I think they forget that the culture war involves real people who are affected by what they say. So easy to make sarcastic thoughtless jibes to undermine your political opponent and then wham suddenly you realise words have impact. He probably thought it would play out well on X and it backfired big time.

I checked Hansard. Sunak knew Esther Ghey was there, because Starmer welcomed her moments before Sunak made his quip. He hasn't a short trousered leg to stand on.

Roussette · 07/02/2024 21:35

Yes, I heard Starmer do that, I was watching it live.

Roussette · 07/02/2024 21:35

Yes, I heard Starmer do that, I was watching it live.

I didn't quite cotton on tbh, but it shuts down those who are accusing Starmer of "using" Brianna and her mum.

IClaudine · 07/02/2024 21:49

Anyway enough MN for me today. Have a good night's sleep everyone. 😴 Maybe Sunak will apologise tomorrow?

defending the indefensible

Laura Trott tells @SophyRidgeSky: “Did you see the interview with Esther, Brianna’s mum this weekend?… She said that she did not want to make it about trans issues, this is not what this was about and we I think that we should respect that.”

That is not what she said. She literally says transphobia was “a contributing factor”

cakeorwine · 07/02/2024 22:27

You know when Rosie Holt does her impression of an awful Tory MP?
I just saw the interview with Laura Trott and Andrew Marr - and you can just hear that in the voice of Rosie Holt.

Not a bone of humanity in them

AdamRyan · 07/02/2024 22:28

Oh it's infuriating..alongside the "sunak didn't mention trans, starmer bought it up".
