Is anyone else a bit jealous of Liz Truss"s complete lack of awareness?

If I'd damaged my country do much and cost so many people so much money because of my arrogance, I'd be mortified.Blush

Caught a bit of Ms Truss's speech and all I can comment is she sounds very unhinged.
Quite scary that she once ran the country for just over a month

Watching the annoying Victoria Atkins Health Sec being interviewed about the dental crisis. This government is forever in knee jerk mode after the footage of hundreds queuing to get NHS dental service. She is in overdrive and trying to make out they are actually putting extra money in, according to the dental association they are not

Cornettoninja · 07/02/2024 08:06

I just caught Victoria Aiken’s being interviewed by Nick Ferrari. She was outlining the plan for dental care and he directly challenged her with ‘you’re just implementing Labours plan aren’t you?’. Cue hockey-sticks chuckle and a denial of ‘oh no, it’s quite different’ it’s not

Notonthestairs · 07/02/2024 08:26

the British Dentists Association has been shouting about funding for years. The problems people are facing accessing dentistry (which is so important for overall health) has been predicted time and again.

"Direct Government spend on dentistry was lower as the country headed into the pandemic than it was in 2010.

The BDA told the Health and Social Care Committee inquiry last month that saving NHS dentistry will require a sustainable funding settlement. Since 2010 Spending on dentistry has failed to keep pace with both inflation and population growth. The UK now spends the lowest share of its health budget on dentistry of any European nation, with England spending the lowest amount per head of population of any UK nation. The BDA stress no other UK nation has followed this model, with the latest hike following a decade of inflation busting rises."

Wishing strength to all of you bumping heads with the more unsavoury characters in our society. Thankfully, there really isn’t a ‘silent majority’, at least not in my experience and certainly not with younger generations coming up; most people want to be decent or at least reflect when they’re made aware they’re falling short.

Unfortunately I think there’s a group who have victimised themselves because they can’t reconcile that they’ve made choices that have left them unsatisfied with life. They choose to spend whatever time they have left lashing out at anyone else who they perceive as getting attention over them. It’s quite sad really.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2024 08:34

Here is the the video of Atkins tying herself in knots no to admit funding is less than in 2014

https://x.com/Haggis_UK/status/1755138416075825379?s=20

Sally Nugent: Am I right in thinking the budget for NHS dentistry has dropped by £500m since 2014

Victoria Atkins: Our budget is £3b

SN: Is the budget lower than it was... additional after a budget cut... it's not Labour asking you these questions, it's me

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/07/nhs-dentistry-recovery-plan-not-worthy-of-the-title-dentists-say

The government accidentally sent details of the scheme to all MPs on Tuesday afternoon, which included the plan to offer NHS dentists cash incentives to take on extra patients and a new scheme to send dental teams to schools to tackle tooth decay, which appears to have been scrapped.

I was wondering how they were going to defend £20K bonuses when they 'can't' afford a junior doctor's payrise.

NHS dentistry ‘recovery plan’ not worthy of the title, dentists say

British Dental Association says government’s plan does not offer hope to millions struggling to access care

Interesting Mogg like insinuation there - asking me (MP/minister) for information & qualifications makes you a lefty.

I expect to see a lot more of this sort of response over the next few months - throw shade on the interviewer as a technique to avoid answering the question.

I don't know whether that's deliberate Tory policy or they've all just spent too long interviewing each other and can't cope with any pressure to answer direct questions.

Weak.

Notonthestairs · 07/02/2024 08:44

They can afford juniors pay rise. They've spent more on agency staff etc covering strikes than they would have funding the pay increase.

newnamethanks · 07/02/2024 08:44

It's policy. They don't have answers so truth-twisting reversals are all that's available, so why are you asking? You pinko commie socialist rat. Etc.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2024 08:49

But Sunak has a plan, a new plan, and we should be sticking plaster to the plan.

IClaudine · 07/02/2024 09:05

I have never seen anything like the behaviour of these people. In some ways, the tanking of the economy might have been a fair price to pay to get rid of Truss. What would have happened if she had remained PM?

They all know the game is up.

Grin

This government are going slightly too over the top with throwing cash at embarrassing problems. Dentists, child care workers…. It’s way too obvious and begs the question why that money hasn’t been targeted at these areas sooner. They’re pretending to try to fix problems they’ve cultivated. For years.

And that’s exactly why Starmer’s keeping his cards close to his chest.

Yep and there will be far more of this the closer we get to a GE. It is soooo obvious it's untrue.

Cornettoninja · 07/02/2024 10:37

@Roussette I heard Wes Streeting (probably on LBC) say that he wouldn’t be bothered if they did pinch labours ideas because at least they’d be doing something of value.

Yes, he said the same stood outside the Bristol dental surgery with the most massive queues yesterday. I know where it is, and it is a really struggling area, and even today there are more queues now. People there are desperate.
