The IMF is back on the woke lefty anti growth list Wink

https://x.com/alexwickham/status/1752322535641768303?s=20

Jeremy Hunt shouldn’t cut taxes in the budget, IMF says

— UK needs the money to invest in public services & get national debt under control, it argues

— warns there are higher spending needs in medium term than reflected in HMT plans

IMF says Hunt should raise taxes not cut them

— calls for more green taxes, taxes on the wealthy, ditching pensions triple lock

— says that’s needed to preserve public services and pay for net zero

I was astonished that LK who is considered politically aware and with close links to Govt allowed Kemi Badenoch to say what she said on the show on sunday.
I don't think it is only Conservative MP's whom we are losing respect for!

tobee · 30/01/2024 23:19

Nice to see you back on FWR boards @AdamRyan . Smile You can't keep a good un down. Fair enough people saying "this would stop me voting Labour". I don't understand them then saying "I'll vote Tory" unless they are inclined to do so anyway. But that's just me.

FWIW DH told me his df, my fil, had felt let down by Labour in the seventies over whatever policy it was, as an explanation for him voting Tory instead and I never understood that either. So it's not just today's issues.

AdamRyan · 31/01/2024 08:33

Thanks tobee. It probably won't last long. They appear to think I'm Billy Bragg Shock
For a board that's all about biological sex regardless of presentation my male UN appears very confusing....

Anyone remember being warned by Brexiters that the cost of doing business was going to rise steeply and become ever more bureaucratic?🤔

https://x.com/Haggis_UK/status/1752599517944295599?s=20

The govt has acknowledged that new brexit checks are going to cost businesses an extra £330m a year?

Andrea Leadsom: There are big opportunities from free trade deals..

KB: A florist can't afford the checks

AL: Leaving the SM was always going to have implications

Oops

Jeremy Hunt warns Cabinet that tax cuts in Spring budget may be smaller than expected

Notonthestairs · 31/01/2024 09:08

It's extraordinary how Brexiteers have pivoted to 'yes this was always going to add bureaucracy and cost more'

Brexit has already knocked 4-6% off GDP.

We've hamstrung our own economy.

They'll still cut taxes. Not because it's the right thing to do. But because they are desperate to hang on to power and their individual seats. And because it will cause more problems for an incoming administration.

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2024 09:14

Oh I know Notonthestairs, so depressing isn't it.

I noticed the influx of private school VAT threads has increased even more in recent days now.

Notonthestairs · 31/01/2024 09:18

Yes the private school threads are noticeably ramping up.

IClaudine · 31/01/2024 10:17

The war threads are too.

Notonthestairs · 31/01/2024 10:22

Pro Trumpers also popping up.

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2024 10:24

The pharmacy story today is also a bit of a 'dead cat ' as I bet the majority of them won't be able to give out any antibiotics and most on the list of seven things they can now deal with people generally go to a pharmacy for anyway ( or buy things for throats or sinus problems in any shop or supermarket etc)
It might ease the pressure a little bit, but what about the access to people's medical records and so on? How might that work ?
I bet they will still refer some people to their GP or A and E the same as 111 tends to do.

Roussette · 31/01/2024 10:55

My friend ( retired Hospital Pharmacist as it happens) had a problem with her ear. The Doctor's by phone sent her to a particular Pharmacist to have a physical examination of it. She was medicated with something and Pharmacist asked her to go back to have it checked.

My friend said she was brilliant and knowledgeable and had told her that only certain Pharmacists were trained up for all these diagnoses and treatment but by 2025 or was it 2026, the Govt were rolling it out to all pharmacists.

I have to say, it wouldn't worry me who I saw, as long as I could see somebody!

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2024 11:31

I'm definitely not dissing any pharmacist at all , but I've heard a discussion about this and some people have similar opinions to mine that it's all smoke and mirrors to distract people ( as well as the logistics of it all)
Plus many might go in there expecting the same kind of examination or advice as a GP and be disappointed that it's not quite the same thing
Some might be a private prescription too.
I do regard my own pharmacy as very professional, but there are limits to this new scheme.

L1ttledrummergirl · 31/01/2024 11:38

A huge number of gp practices have had pharmacists working with them for many years, and in my experience as a GP receptionist (former employment), they know much more about medication than GPs.

They are brilliant for minor ailments, coughs, colds, sore throats, rashes, ear aches temperatures etc and should have a good knowledge on contraindications.

As long as they ask about other medication and document what is said thoroughly I would have no issues being treated by a pharmacist.

The issues will come when someone doesn't tell them about medication they are taking.
With basic information like meds and allergies on the front page of records held on the spine (electronic sharing), they should see these anyway.

Roussette · 31/01/2024 11:45

Totally agree with last two posts. It is outsourcing what a Doctor should be doing, but for minor (ish) ailments, I think it's a good thing.

However, I dread something happening where more is needed. That happened to us just prior to Covid, and I wonder how it would be now if something similar happened.

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2024 12:00

There was a man on the tv just now on channel five phone in who obtained some antibiotics from a pharmacy for him and his wife but for two prescriptions it was £50 pounds with a private script.
Ok (it's definitely not a stealth boast ) , but I could manage this type of one off payment if needs be and I was desperate to clear up a minor ailment to get back to work or out of pain or whatever , but many can't and I can see how this will go very quickly with the ones who can suck it up now and again doing this with a pharmacy and the ones who can only afford the NHS charges having to wait to see the GP.

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2024 12:01

I think the scheme could work well if it is properly funded, the 'if' is the problem.

Cornettoninja · 31/01/2024 12:08

Rishi sounds bored at pmqs today. His heart isn’t in it (disclaimer - things may warm up!)

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2024 12:26

This from Adam Bienkov sums it up

Not entirely convinced that Rishi Sunak's strategy of insisting the economy is flourishing, mortgage payments are falling and any change from the wondrous status quo will destroy our economic nirvana and take us "back to square one" will survive an election campaign

Roussette · 31/01/2024 12:35

What is 'square one'? Where is that?

Stupid comment from him. I agree his heart's not in it

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2024 12:37

Maybe someone should start whispering 'don't you think he looks tired' al a Dr Who.

IClaudine · 31/01/2024 12:57

He has been using "back to square" one for a while.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 31/01/2024 14:21

Hands up everyone who quite likes the sound of 'back to square one'!
